Stories and Strategies for Public Relations and Marketing

I always hated the term "Public Relations." It always sounded so greasy and salesy to me. Years later I realize the concept of "relating to the public" is simply communication. It's in every facet of our daily lives. And if the ability to cooperate is what makes us distinctly different as humans, it's the ability to communicate that facilitates this.
Public Relations is ultimately one of the most expressly human aspects of life.
Across the landscape of global communication, the role of Public Relations (PR) has become increasingly pivotal. As a profession, Public Relations stands at the crossroads of information dissemination and perception management, embodying the complex interplay between organizations, media, and the public. At its core, Public Relations is about forging connections, a mission that has elevated it to a thriving profession in our modern society.
Public Relations professionals harness a diverse toolkit of strategies to navigate this multifaceted domain. Their expertise spans across marketing, government relations, media relations, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement. Each of these elements serves as a cornerstone in the foundation of Public Relations, contributing to its stature and effectiveness. Marketing initiatives, for example, are not just about promoting products or services but about storytelling that resonates with audiences on a personal level. Government and media relations are about establishing trust and transparency, ensuring that communications are both reliable and beneficial to the public interest.
Crisis management and stakeholder engagement further illustrate the crucial roles played by Public Relations experts. In times of crisis, these professionals are the architects of strategies that protect and rehabilitate an organization's image. Through stakeholder engagement, they build and maintain relationships that are essential for mutual understanding and support. This comprehensive approach to communication underscores the versatility and indispensability of Public Relations in today's world.
The tangible outputs have impacts. Press releases earn widespread media placement, websites and social media campaigns captivate and influence, short-form videos seize our attention, and podcasts linger in our memory—all these are manifestations of the influence Public Relations has on our collective consciousness. These tools and platforms are meticulously crafted to shape perceptions, drive narratives, and inspire action. They demonstrate the profound ability of Public Relations to mold public discourse and interaction.
At the forefront of these endeavors stand the Public Relations professionals, whose skills in understanding, influencing, informing, and inspiring are unparalleled. Their work is not just about conveying messages but about creating dialogue, fostering understanding, and building bridges between entities and individuals. For aspiring podcasters and seasoned podcasters, podcast strategist Tracy Hazzard explores whether your podcast has what it takes to create and grow a binge-worthy podcast – where listeners binge on your every word and get to know, like, and trust you in an accelerated way. The Binge Factor is that strategic key to making your show irresistible, influential, authority-building, and successful. Tracy’s unique gift to the podcasting and branding world is being able to identify that unique binge-able factor - the thing that makes people come back again and again, listen actively, share as raving fans, and buy everything you have to sell.

Join Authority Magazine columnist, BuzzFeed contributor, and former Inc. Magazine columnist, Tracy Hazzard, as she talks to Top Brandcasters using audio and video to spread their message to the world. With over 2600 interviews under her belt across all her articles, blogs, videos, and podcasts, Tracy asks the probing questions to bring you diverse views from successful industry veterans like Pat Flynn, Joe Rogan, and John Lee Dumas, and exposes the podcast launch and growth myths that no longer work. She covers the five things that make a show more bingeable and more profitable - the best ways to get great podcast guests, increase podcast listeners, encourage audience engagement, produce your podcast professionally, and find alternative ways to monetize your show.

NEW on The Binge Factor Podcast –

  • Each episode becomes an article in Tracy’s Authority Magazine column, is syndicated in Thrive Global, and some are added to a BuzzFeed roll-up podcast tips article.
  • On Tuesdays, Tracy gives shout-outs to new and noteworthy podcasts as she joins podcasters in the UK and Australia for a weekly #GivingTuesdayPodcasts episode.
  • Want to improve your show and get Tracy to up your bingeability factor one-on-one? Take advantage of her free on-air coaching sessions available to all podcasters at all stages – from pre-launch to pivot to podfading recovery.
  • Tracy will be dropping in monthly specials – replays of her Podfade Prevention Masterclasses on referrals, social media planning, pod to publish, interviewing, guesting, and other podcast launching, podcast marketing, and business growth topics. These masterclasses are usually only available to Podetize clients, but listeners get an exclusive peak.

Finding the Binge Factor is a skillset that Tracy has honed over her thirty-year career as a Brand Product Strategist for Hazz Design where she ghost-designed and launched 250+ consumer retail products generating more than $2 Billion at retail for her clients. Tracy has worked with leading brands like Martha Stewart Living to out-design and out-profit the competition and has taken her brand-building experience into her role as CEO and Co-Founder of Podetize.com, the largest post-producer of podcasts in the US. Podetize is reinventing brand marketing, creating a community and business that is obsessively podcaster-centric and focused on solutions to get hosts seen, heard, found and rewarded in this noisy digital world.

In addition to writing an Innovation Column for Inc. Magazine for four years, Tracy has been featured in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Wired, and CNN Money. Tracy co-hosts three additional podcasts: Feed Your Brand, ranked as on

I was a chronic hustle-mode kinda guy and I want to share my experiences and mentors I've met along the way to help you reframe things so you can be the most effective as an entrepreneur. Join in conversations with Joe Fier and various mentors sharing principles and strategies to put this into action for yourself. Please enjoy and share with your friends! Listen Notes

New business is one of those subjects guaranteed to get a reaction from agency owners everywhere. Many will have a nagging feeling they should be doing a bit more, wonder how other agencies manage to land the accounts they covet, have moments of wild inspiration and energy then falter because the day job just, well gets in the way. Gunpowder’s Lucy Mann has worked in agency new business for over 25 years and has witnessed these scenarios, and many more like them, as an outsourced new business telemarketer, a new business recruitment consultant, in house new business developer, in house head of marketing, and new business mentor across multiple disciplines and agency shapes and sizes. Regardless of size and discipline, many agencies encounter the same new business challenges, and more and more, the solution is not necessarily an ambitious marketing plan, or expensive sales resource, but instead a forensic application of process and a marginal gains approach to performance improvement. Gunpowder’s podcast, Small Spark TheoryTM explores the small changes we can make to our sales and marketing process to achieve better new business results. With contributions from a range of experts, each episode will examine a single element of the process in detail, providing manageable tips for improvement. Tactical & effective meets grounded & honest in content creation, marketing, and content strategy. Real, practical, no B.S. advice, along with conversation about the lines between persuasion and manipulation in strategic content and marketing. I search out insights, strategies and tactics from the most accomplished thinkers and doers in the field. My name is Marion Abrams. And for my entire 30 plus year career, I've been working behind the scenes telling stories, selling products, promoting people, and communicating ideas. I'm coming out from behind the mixer and getting on the mic to talk about something I'm really passionate about, and I truly believe in. The idea is that you can market, message, tell stories, sell brands, products, people, ideas, nonprofits and events, authentically. That's what I mean by grounded content. I've worked in production in video as a shooter, a writer, a producer, a director, and editor, as a social media manager and consultant. And as a behind the scenes Podcast Producer. I've worked on network shows, documentaries, commercials for clients like Blue Cross, the US Ski Team, the Vermont lottery, National Grid, and Land Rover and seen my work on all the major networks. In 2014, I partnered with Joe De Sena. He's the founder and CEO of Spartan, which is now the world's largest endurance brand. He came to me and said let's do a podcast. Together we designed the concept, strategy, and format for the "Spartan Up podcast." We built it from an audience of zero to more than 40 million downloads and views and over 800 episodes. We've had lots of incredible guests you've heard of, and many you haven't heard of yet. Today, I'm starting my own podcast "Grounded Content", holistic, authentic, grounded, effective content. I interview leaders in the content marketing, marketing, and messaging business, and share my own experiences to help you create content that's effective, grounded, authentic, and purposeful. Whether your goal is to sell a product or to express an idea.
