In this week's episode of Making Conversations Count Wendy's talking to Georgie Vestey, host of the Dead Honest podcast .

We often talk about the importance of our conversations on this podcast, but this only really counts!

Wendy and Georgie really got into a deep dive chat about what it's like doing a podcast in middle age.

And so in this episode you'll hear Wendy saying to Georgie that they're going to be making conversations about honesty count... and they certainly do get dead honest with each other!

They also share their favourite things about podcasting and deep dive into some of the things that anyone who wants to start a podcast should be aware of, including getting some help with the production.

The dead honest conversation continues all the way throughout this episode and in particular they discuss:

  • The story behind how the Dead Honest podcast came to be
  • Wendy's dead honest story about the Dr Ivan Misner episode that nearly didn't happen
  • Georgie's dead honest revelation about her proudest podcast moment
  • Both of the ladies' thoughts on how you can't predict your podcast's success - the podcast listeners are the judges!
  • Georgie's shares what she thinks it is that makes for a successful podcast
  • And of course, Georgie describes to us which of her conversations was the one that counted

Do you lose sleep over artificial intelligence? Do you think it will win the battle with human intelligence? Making Conversations about keeping up Count!

"We have renewable forms of energy. We've learned about wind and sea power and stuff like that. But robots, when they apply their minds, actually, they might uncover something completely different?"

Allister Frost, Making Conversations Count - (June 2022)

Psst! Low on data? Here's a lower bandwidth version for you.

Is there really a battle of artificial intelligence vs human intelligence?

Allister Frost is a very smart man.

He's got a lot to say in this episode.

Yes, about AI (or as we know it - artificial intelligence) and the dawn of something called artificial general intelligence.

But also about a range of other subjects too.

Including, what really is the post-pandemic 'new normal', how Buddhism can play a part in business success, and just how rad soap is!

As you'll learn from this episode of the "Making Conversations Count" podcast, there's far more hidden away from us in life than a robot vac and some bath time bubbles!

You'll learn....

  • The ‘new normal’
  • What is artificial intelligence, really?
  • The future of AI and ‘artificial general intelligence’ that passes the Turing test
  • How Allister applies Buddhism in his work
  • The genius of soap
  • Allister’s conversation that counted – (and some brilliantly simple business advice for any business owner!)

A poignant moment from the episode:

"It's about recognising that your comfort zone, the sort of safe, easy life that you created for yourself. It's nice, it's cosy, but it won't exist in the future because things are going to change. Now, you have a choice. You can wait for change to happen to you and you'll kind of have to roll with it. Or you could be more Proactive in your life and try to explore those changes that would be beneficial to you and your family and the lifestyle you wish to have."

We're Making Conversations about inclusion Count!

"If you are making a judgment just based on my name, then that's a problem more about you than me. That's not my issue or my burden to carry."

Sope Agbelusi tells us the story of his name, and the challenges he's endured just for using it, from a young age.

And he's still hugely aware of bias that's happening all around him, all the time.

He's learned to embrace his name and appreciate its uniqueness, as well as the identity of those that share it.

In this, the latest of our most powerful conversations, he's appealing to all of us to do our own bit to recognise our own bias.

Have a listen to learn:

  • How Sope handled his name as a young boy
  • What his name means in his Nigerian origins
  • How all of us have a bias and what we can do to correct that
  • Bias isn't just about names or colour - it can impact in many other ways including gender
  • How Tchaikovsky managed something many don't!
  • The importance of intention
  • The strategies for inclusion
  • The conversation that counted

Do you know how much money podcasts make? Does your own podcast make you money? Making Conversations about podcast growth Count!

"You have dozens of these podcast booking agencies, and I'm friends with a lot of them. Again, they stepped into a problem and they built the solution for the problem. But by doing that, I think there was another problem that was generated, which was the fact that the podcaster wasn't getting paid."

Travis Chappell, Making Conversations Count - (June 2022)

Psst! Low on data? Here's a lower bandwidth version for you.

If after listening you feel you want to sign up for Guestio, click here to do so.

Is there a better way of monetising your podcast?

Travis Chappell thinks so.

He's come up with a solution that he hopes will help indie podcasts to continue investing in producing professional and polished content but cover those costs with the podcast itself.

Podcast marketing can be a bit of a catch-22.

You know it's good for your brand, but it costs you money up front and can take years of consistency before you'll even see results.

After listening to this episode, you'll be informed of a potential opportunity to help with the issue of financing your growth.

As you'll learn from this episode of the "Making Conversations Count" podcast, there's more than one way to monetise a podcast!

You'll learn....

  • Why fight with bigger podcasts for great guests?
  • Podcasters do all the work for none of the pay
  • How much money do podcasts make?
  • Travis’ conversation that counted – (and how he hates being comfortable!)

A poignant moment from the episode:

"There's kind of this almost like taboo attitude about it from a lot of people where it's like, "well, I would never pay for a guest" or "I would never pay to go on a show". And I'm just always curious as to why? It's not anybody's fault. It's not like they're just small minded. It has nothing to do with that. It's just like that's how the industry was portrayed for the last few years. Like I said, it's treated as a form of PR. The difference is if you go get an article in NBC or Forbes or whatever, they're still going to make all their money this quarter. They're not dependent... like, they don't also have a nine to five that they're working on the side."

Do you have the ideal customer profile of your target clients? Making Conversations about Marketing Counts, Count! - Even the title suggests it's meant to be!

"The mindset is probably half the battle. Too many people, even in marketing, they take their advertising campaigns, they shut them down too early... discredit ideas. And sometimes you're not following the right process. It's not that marketing does not work. You're not following the right process."

Paul and Shreya, Making Conversations Count - (July 2022)

Psst! Low on data? Here's a lower bandwidth version for you.

Are you spraying and praying with your marketing? It's time to stop that.

In order to seriously succeed with your business, and actually scale it, you need to get some things figured out first.

One of those things is your ICP.

Your ideal customer profile.

Get this bit wrong, and you'll be marketing to everyone and selling to no one.

Thankfully, this week's episode guests are experts at this stuff.

After listening to this episode, you'll understand why you need an ideal customer profile, how to figure it out, and what you can do to make that new client avatar work for you and your best results!

Enjoy this new episode of the "Making Conversations Count" podcast!

You'll learn....

  • Why most people get the basics wrong
  • How to resonate differently for different clients
  • Why it's important to try to do yourself out of a job
  • Paul and Shreya's conversations that counted
  • Their advice for new and recently started entrepreneurs

A poignant moment from the episode:

"One of the key concepts we teach is creating your customer avatar. ICP. Unfortunately, if you're starting a small business, you don't do this because you think about everything else. But you don't start at the basic. You don't start at the letter A. Right. So creating your customer avatar, figuring out who that person is, we actually name it. You could have like 20 different personalities. For example, maybe you sell toilet paper. Toilet paper is for everybody. So how do you market to your key person? But there are different segments even within the toilet paper market. So some people might want the cheapest out there, some people might want the most comfiest out there. Well, those are two different customer profiles, and you're going to have to decide. We name it, name them Sally and Matt. And Matt wants the softest one and Sally wants the cheapest one. And then when you're speaking and designing marketing materials, you're specifically creating stuff for Matt that's going to speak to him. And even as an individual, I could do that. Even as a solopreneur or influencer, I could talk directly in one channel to Matt and then another channel on a different page, different landing page, different part of my website. I could talk to Sally at two different approaches. They're still getting the information...."

Content marketing is something that can be difficult for some to understand.

It's all about getting yourself out of the 'take' mindset, and instead becoming all about 'giving'.

As in, giving information. Info that's useful to your target audience! And ultimately, if you do that, the rewards will follow.

In the most recent episode of "Making Conversations Count" Wendy Harris chatted with the guy who literally invented the term 'content marketing'.

Joe Pulizzi shared immense wisdom around what the term really means, and how you can apply it in your own offerings.

Wendy and producer Neal get together as always, and chat through what they've learned.

Make money while you sleep with passive income!

A man named Pat Flynn once taught the business internet how to make money while you sleep, with a concept called 'passive income'.

Nowadays, one of the top search terms on Google is "best online courses websites" as people around the world attempt to get a leg up in this space, and monetise their acquired knowledge.

But online courses are not the only way to monetise your knowledge, as online course marketing expert Tom Libelt explains in this episode of "Making Conversations Count."

"Field of Dreams" told us that if we build it, they will come. But they probably won't actually...

During this episode, Tom lifts the curtain on how most speakers get their apparent success at large speaking events.

He explains to Wendy that they're usually getting a helping hand from the organisers, and so if their ideas and content suck, they're probably not going to realise it until they put it to market.

Hint: that speaker's popularity might not be entirely authentic.

Humble beginnings

Tom believes that if you truly want to make money from online courses, you've got to think it through a bit more, and really do your market research.

Be proactive in understanding who you can help, and work with them to steer you to your winning product.
