Billy Dees Podcast - Sam from Erie St Vinyl Talks Records and Audio
play

11/17/22 • 35 min

We had a great visit on location with Sam from Erie St. Vinyl in Massillon, Ohio. Do you remember the feel of old record stores back in the 1970s? In addition to vinyl record bins around the store, Erie St Vinyl is decorated with vintage audio gear and décor. They even burn incense so that the aroma of the store has a classic record store vibe.
During this interview we discuss how people’s listening habits to music has changed, and how a new generation of music fans are discovering vinyl. We also chat about the business aspect of opening a brick-and-mortar shop to cater to the vintage audio and vinyl music fan.
You can find Erie St. Vinyl on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/eriestvinyl

Classified as a Comedy/Disaster, I presume they mean a combined comedy and disaster movie not a comical disaster, “Don’t Look Up” is a satirical story about two astronomers who go on a media tour to warn the world of an Extinction Level Event in the form of a giant comet speeding toward Earth. Can us earthlings put down our phones long enough to listen? What I feel the movie hits the mark on as well as what I feel it may have missed are the subjects of this episode along with my take on how the space sciences are regarded in these contemporary times.

Billy Dees Podcast - Are Medical Errors Destined To Become Crimes?
play

03/29/22 • 40 min

A former nurse, RaDonda Vaught, was convicted of gross neglect of an impaired adult and negligent homicide on March 25, 2022 after a three-day trial in Nashville, Tennessee. Vaught faced these charges in connection with the killing of Charlene Murphey, who died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in late December 2017 after being administered the incorrect drug. Medical errors are generally handled by professional licensing boards or civil courts. Criminal prosecutions like Vaught's case are very rare. This trial has been closely monitored by nurses and medical professionals across the U.S. because of a strong concern that this conviction could set a precedent for criminalizing medical mistakes.

Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

I have been creating audio content and media in general for over 30 years. When podcasting began to emerge I was an early adopter. It was a natural fit for what I already had been doing for a long time. The podcast in its current form and format is going on a decade's long journey.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

The podcast is a mix of information, perspectives, and entertainment. Sometimes more of one versus the other two, it just depends on the episode.

Which episode should someone start with?

We have a mix of episodes leading off with "live." Those are current events/ commentary episodes. Most of the others are interviews with authors or advocates. Pick some!

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

There have been so many incredible people on the show there is no way I could pick a favorite.

Which episode are you most proud of?

Again, so many people and guests have given their valuable time and effort to sharing their story, I would be hard-pressed to hold one up over the others.

What is your vision for your show?

To just keep going and growing. The last 2 years have had an accelerated period of not only listenership but influence. Nothing makes me happier than to hear the podcast referenced somewhere else.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

Again, so many associates and partners! lol They are all great and make a great team.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

I was lazy. It was my DJ and Stand Up moniker from years past.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I'm a loser who occasionally makes a big play. I enjoy audio and media production. Being a creative is a big source of fulfillment. Definitely a humanitarian and an animal lover. I work as a marketing professional in the nonprofit sector by day and freelance as a producer and a audio/video editor. I'm lucky to do what I enjoy.
