Charting a Career Path Against the Grain and Bringing Stories to Life | Wayne Partello
12/20/22 • 66 min
5 Listeners
After being forced to abandon his dream of becoming a police officer, Wayne Partello, a young, ambitious entrepreneur, is confronted with a daunting challenge: to prove himself without a college degree in the cutthroat world of media and professional sports.
"You have control of your story. It's what you want to be known for, and you have control of that." - Wayne Partello.
Wayne Partello is the co-founder and CEO of CUENTO Marketing, a marketing and brand consultancy based in San Diego. He is passionate about helping brands determine their story and bring it to life.
Wayne Partello learned to make decisions with purpose and tailor his life to what he wanted to do. He wanted to be a police officer, but after the police academy, he moved to Boston to become a DJ. As a requirement, he returned to Florida to work as a police officer. But when the city was restructured, Wayne realized he needed to make a change and decided to go to a trade school. While his friends were graduating college, Wayne felt the pressure to have a career but eventually ended up with the real-world experience that guided the rest of his career.
In this episode, we discuss:
1. Exploring the power of real-world experience, as opposed to a degree, to achieve success.
2. Examining the importance of re-evaluating career paths to find true purpose and fulfillment.
After over a decade of media experience followed by over a decade of NFL and MLB front-office experience, Wayne Partello decided it was time for a change. He needed to scratch the entrepreneurial itch that had been following him since his teenage years, but this time he wanted to use all the experiences he had gained through his journey to help brands identify who they wanted to be and how to make that a reality.

From Surviving to Thriving: Overcoming Trauma & Finding Purpose | Sarah Blankenship
In the face of tragedy and loss, she found the strength to keep going for her kids.
"I mean, if it weren't for them, I'm honestly a little afraid of what would have happened because they were my everything, everything I did for them."
Here's what Sarah and I discuss in this episode of The Life Shift podcast:
1. The challenges Sarah faced as a single parent after her divorce, including financial struggles and depression.
2. How Sarah's perspective on love changed after her mother's death, leading her into a codependent relationship.
3. Sarah's experience as a rebel Gen Xer - who didn't go to college and took a nontraditional path in life.
We take the time to cover her early experiences with loss and how it led her to seek out unhealthy relationships. Throughout this journey, we learn about Sarah's single-parent experience, how she coped with extreme poverty and depression, and how her children helped her get through it. By the end of the conversation, we understand how one moment triggered a change to lead Sarah to become a successful business owner and finally being able to build her dream home for her family.
In 6 years, Sarah Blankenship went from food stamps to six figures. She now uses her story to inspire others to excel in their own careers. Through her coaching business, Brite Launch, Sarah provides one-on-one career coaching and workshops with a specialized emphasis on accelerating Gen X careers. As the voice of Gen X Nation, Sarah is a fierce advocate, leader, and community builder for Generation X. Above all, Sarah has a servant's heart and loves helping others to navigate life's biggest challenges!
