The best podcasts to gain new ideas as an indie podcaster

Share

Who am I?

I am the producer and host of The Life Shift podcast, which launched in March 2022. I created the platform to allow my guests to share their stories about the pivotal moments that have changed their lives forever. I earned my second master's degree in Mass Communications in 2022. While in this program, I took a class called "The Art of Podcasting." This class is where The Life Shift Podcast was born. I do everything for The Life Shift podcast from A to Z and I learn something new every week. I created this show as an homage to the little 8-year-old version of me who lost his mother in a motorcycle accident. My guests inspire me weekly, and I'm so grateful to be on this journey. I believe my own experiences through grief have allowed me to be empathetic as my guest often share deeply personal stories. The goal is always to help listeners feel less alone in their experiences and circumstances.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

In each episode, I have candid conversations with people about the pivotal moments that changed their lives forever. We all have our stories, but through these conversations, we discover communities. We learn that there are commonalities through the ups and downs that we all face. But most importantly, we learn that we are not alone. The Life Shift podcast highlights life-altering moments and humanizes the struggles and triumphs through them all.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I wanted to create a playlist of the shows I listen to that helped me on this indie podcasting journey. As I've learned, many podcasting "gurus" are out there, but in many cases, the advice does not always fit every podcast. So I listen to these podcasts and determine what aspects I want to incorporate into my show.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Podcast Bestie, the Podcast

Why this podcast?

Friends - You must get in on this podcast. Host Courtney Kocak is easy to listen to and has a great deal of industry knowledge. Plus, on this podcast version of her newsletter, she brings on industry pros to share some super helpful nuggets of advice. I love that she is putting this show together for indie podcasters. We can feel the care and intent behind each episode. I also really enjoy that she asks her expert guests to audit one of her shows as the final segment of each episode. Bravo, and thank you, Courtney. Check it out, my indie podcasting friends!

2. The Podcasters Podcast

Why this podcast?

I love listening to Ashley and Kane on this show. They have short episodes with great advice from their years of working with a large podcast production agency in the UK. Much of the advice that they give is for more B2B type shows, but there has always been something that I've found helpful to consider in each episode. I had the pleasure of being one of a few interviews they have done on the show, but I am not biased about choosing this one because they regularly give helpful advice to any podcaster out there that is trying to make their show grow and improve each week.

3. Podcasting Success Secrets

Why this podcast?

This was one of the first podcasting podcasts I listened to in my journey. Hector is a great host and focused the beginning of this show on marketing podcasts based on his vast experience in the industry. As with a few others, much of the content relates more to B2B podcasts, but since the switch to Podcasting Success Secrets, he's incorporated more guests that speak to people at all levels and focuses. (Note: I meant to put this higher, but forgot - Hope Hector doesn't get upset about this)
