I share my experience, strength and hope with you regarding my own recovery from alcoholism through the 12 Steps in Alcoholics Anonymous. By the grace of God I've remained sober since I was 18 years old (1989). I started drinking and using drugs very young. I got sober during a time when there were not a lot of young people in AA. Moreover, I was homeless. I got sober in the very same location I drank. I'm passionate about recovery, and about sharing my incredible experience with others in every way I can. I am sincerely happy, joyous, and free.

Kintsugi, also known as kintsukuroi is the Japanese art of reconstructing broken pottery and ceramics. In its essential form, it is the art of making better that which has been broken. This concept though usually applied to ceramics, can be applied to our personal lives also. This podcast is about the journey we all take (in one way or another); falling flat, breaking apart, and rebuilding ourselves many times over, each time building with the lessons we've learned. I like to think of these lessons as the 'golden glue' that rebinds the broken pieces and contributes to the beauty of the reconstructed object. Through my journey, I’ve come across stories of others who have traveled the path before I did. Their stories often renewed my own sense of motivation and provided a sense or feeling of not being alone. This podcast is a mix of personal accounts of my experiences and an intent to pay forward what I have learned from others so that you might also benefit from it in the same way I have. On this journey, you drop in during the late stages of transition from the person I used to be to the person I am emerging into. Taking you with me during this process is the goal and my hope is that by talking about these experiences they leave you with something you can apply in yours making it more engaging and fulfilling. This is in summary a personal account of my experience leading up to and just after what feels like a significant transformation in the process of completing itself, with the goal of helping, inspiring, and/or leading you to undertake your own journey to a more fulfilled existence.

If it's true that "...the opposite of addiction is not sobriety...the opposite of addiction is connection," there are lots of people who need to discover what true, healthy connection looks like. Whether the struggle is with addiction, toxic relationship dynamics, or something else, we've all tried to meet our needs in unhealthy ways. Way too often, the things we run to for comfort leave us feeling even more disconnected and alone than before.
Through conversations about the many ways we can connect, we offer an invitation to discover and move toward what we really want, so we can live the lives we were created for.
Awaken (awakenrecovery.com) helps men and women whose lives have been wrecked by unwanted/addictive sexual behaviors and sexual betrayal trauma. We hope the podcast will help not only those struggling sexually, but anyone who seeks healthier ways of finding connection.

What makes some people develop an addiction while others don't? Could genes or social environment influence addictive behaviours? In this album, scientists in the US and the UK explore the psychology and biology of addiction by subjecting a recovering alcoholic and his sister, a non-addict, to a range of physiological, psychological and genetic studies. The results raise interesting questions about brain patterns underlying addictions, and how addiction should be treated. This material forms part of The Open University course SD805 Issues in brain and behaviour.
