Impulsivity: The balancing act
Bold Beautiful Borderline
12/20/20 • 27 min
Impulsivity is possibly the most fun and most devastating symptom of borderline personality disorder.
Be it impulsive sex, substance use, speeding, shopping, binge eating, or basically anything that gives immediate gratification in maybe not the most healthy ways... we’ve probably been there and done that.
But impulsivity it’s not necessarily a symptom we’d want to live without either! Being impulsive also makes us more fun, passionate, exciting, and spontaneous.
It’s all about balance.

Laurie’s Biggest Shame: Eating Disorders 1
Bold Beautiful Borderline
04/18/21 • 69 min
Warning: This episode is hard as is very likely to be triggering to people who have experiences with disordered eating. Please listen with self love and take good care of yourself.
We have debated not publishing this episode many times as it is less about recovery and more about currently living with mental illness and actively struggling. It was the hardest episode we have ever recorded. That said, in some ways we hope that this episode offers a glimpse into the reality of really tough conversations, boundary setting, and the deep shame and struggles that can come from mental illnesses like eating disorders.
In this episode you will hear a lot of dysregulation, resistance, and resentment. Please know that Laurie and Sara are good - this is the reality of being in close friendships with BPD. We still love each other very much and have discussed how difficult this was for both of us at great lengths since recording.

From tragedy to supporting others (feat. Lynn from Sashbear)
Bold Beautiful Borderline
03/12/23 • 43 min
On June 17th 2011, Sasha Courey lost her battle to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and died by suicide at the age of 20. Sasha was a scholarship athlete and a gifted student with a promising future. The pain associated with the BPD was too great and the system failed to support her needs. Sasha struggled to understand why the treatment that was “air to breathe” was so expensive and difficult to locate.
Sasha's family created the Sashbear Foundation in her legacy, and have been changing lives through advocacy and skills training ever since Sasha's tragic passing.
In this episode Sara and Laurie chat with Sasha's mom Lynn (Sashbear's Founder and President) about founding the Sashbear Foundation, how they support families, and her perspective of Sasha's story.
Particularly moving is Lynn's reflections on how she would have done things differently with the skills she has been able to learn in the last decade.

BPD Book Club - Stop Walking on Eggshells Introduction (feat. Talon)
Bold Beautiful Borderline
03/22/23 • 38 min
Welcome to your newest BBB mini-series!! Every Wednesday you will get a bonus episode until we've read EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER of the book Stop Walking on Eggshells that was republished as a 2nd edition in 2010.
Here's the deal - we are reviewing this book from a critical lens, but we only have so much ability to be critical as we're reading it from the perspective of someone having BPD and the partner of someone with BPD. These are our opinions and we hope to teach others how stigmatizing language damages us and the people who love those of us with BPD. We also point out some of the benefits of this book. This mini-series is NOT a shit on this book, nor is it a recommendation of this book. It is simply a critical review of a book that most people who have a BPD family member, partner, loved one, or friend has been recommended.
We are reviewing this book as consistent with Copyright Fair Use law:
1. We are not reading it in its entirety
2. We have purchased the book we are reading from
3. We are using it for educational purposes
4. We are using it for non-commercial purposes
5. We are reviewing a previous edition of the book that does not harm the current edition of the book or the future market of the book
6. We are using this work for “transformative” uses. Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.
This week we are reviewing the introduction of the book. Each week we will review one full chapter until the book is complete. Enjoy!

The Future - Individual Biomarkers for Individual Mental Healthcare (feat. Dr. Evelyn Higgins)
Bold Beautiful Borderline
12/10/23 • 41 min
Our mental healthcare needs to be personalized to us and our specific biology. Today, Sara and Dr. Evelyn Higgins talk about the work she's doing to make that happen. Wired For Addiction provides an individually tested biomarker 31-page report that hopes to negate the often ineffective and dangerous “try-it-out” phase of medications by isolating the individual’s specific genes and the associated interaction with the drugs and drug types listed in the report. In matters of health, life, and death, empirical evidence should not be the standard of care. These are their beliefs as a company. Sara and Evelyn talk what, why, and how on individual genetic mental healthcare.
