The Menopause Mindset - 168 Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation with Nikki Scott
play

09/20/24 • 53 min

Join me and Nikki Scott who is a women's health and fitness coach specializing in postnatal recovery and pelvic floor health using hypopressives. In this conversation we talk about some of the alarming and frankly ineffective treatments prescribed for pelvic floor issues today. We talk about why hypopressives work and why it’s a gentler approach to pelvic floor rehab. We chat about why ignoring any kind of pelvic health dysfunction before menopause can be unhelpful and what paying attention to the posterior chain of muscles and fascia can do for your health.
This is an incredibly beneficial conversation for everyone with female sexual organs!

The Menopause Mindset - 94 Taking Back Control with Bron Hadley
play

02/28/22 • 62 min

Is cake ok or not ok when you're menopausal?
After diving into a few anti diet books, I started seeing the broader picture as to how the diet industry was playing with our mental health and honestly.......
I used it as a reason to have my cake and eat it.
I'd been hearing that BMI was a flawed measurement; weight wasn't the big health concern we thought it was and sugar wasn't the big poisonous problem we had made it out to be.
Sooooo confusing!!!
BECAUSE MY BODY WAS TELLING ME OTHERWISE.
It got to the point a few weeks ago (y'know those heart flutters), where I decided I had to clean up my act and take back control of MY health.......
and that started with eliminating white processed sugar because I'd made a connection to sugar and that nervous feeling.
As I write to you now I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER.
Taking to Bron Hadley, confirmed this for me.
Bron is a fitness and life coach specialising in menopause and she helps women take back control when things have gone to shit.
Because the truth is..AT MENOPAUSE WE REQUIRE A DIFFERENT APPROACH THAT IS NEITHER BOOM (eat what you want) OR BUST (eat less and move more).
In this episode we talk about:
➡️ Stop blaming menopause
➡️ How to get more protein in your life and why
➡️ It's not what you eat, it's WHEN you eat
➡️ High energy carbs vs low energy carbs
➡️ Omega 3 vs Omega 6 (inflammation)
➡️ The Sweaty Sister STEER Model
➡️ Habits over hormones
And finally...This episode takes a twist in direction at the end when Bron talks honestly and openly about how she used her powers of curiosity to come to terms with her daughter being gay and in love with a non binary person. So if you're like me, and you've reached the end of your rope, or you're curious to learn more about how to treat your menopausal body, you can take back control by listening to this episode.

The Menopause Mindset - 92 Creating Relational Harmony

92 Creating Relational Harmony

The Menopause Mindset

play

02/14/22 • 44 min

When they're going well, we have our mojo, our focus and our equilibrium but when they are not so going well, we lie awake at night, we can't concentrate and we're all topsy turvy inside.

I'm talking about RELATIONSHIPS of course.

Relationships have been a hot topic this week as it's been Valentine's Day but that's not why I'm bringing you this.

I'm bringing you this because I care about your menopause and your stress levels and my friend....

...the state of our relationships can massively affect our menopause.

The worse the stress, the worse the symptoms.

The reverse isn't always 100% true, but at least if we deepen our understanding of what can cause relational stress, we can do something about it. And maybe, just maybe, it will go some of the way towards a better menopause transition.

Here's the equation that I live my life by...

Knowledge = Empowerment = Control = Equilibrium.

Inside this episode of The Menopause Mindset Podcast we dive into the theory of attachment and attachment styles.

When I came across this theory (just in time to become a wife) it really changed the game for me and my clients.

It was like I'd taken the red pill. I became so aware of why things worked between my husband and I and why, sometimes, they didn't work.

Understanding the 'why' gave me freedom from blaming him and me. It gave me a logical explanation for the tension that was going on.

It also created a full blown technicolour picture of my past behaviour.... finally, there was an explanation.

So if you're ready to become 'relationally illuminated' and you're ripe for a major increase in clarity around how to create more harmony in them, this episode is for you.

The Menopause Mindset - 101 Reclaiming Pleasure with Mangala Holland
play

05/02/22 • 58 min

What does sex and the Chinese language have in common? Answer: You can learn them both.

When it comes to pleasure, did you know that many of us have a lid on our capacity to harbour it?

Our pleasure set point can diminish with age, unless we decide to reclaim it, work with it and expand it.

But many of us don't realise that's even an option.

Lucky for you, my guest today, Mangala Holland, reveals all. She's a female and vulva owner's sexuality coach and she believes that expanding our capacity for pleasure deeply heals the past and is also a rebellious form of activism (my kind of activism 😉).

In today's conversation we talk about:

How might sexual disconnection present itself?
Taking a trauma informed approach to sexuality coaching.
What happens inside sexuality coaching?
What does 'staying in the body' actually mean?
Why we might push pleasure away sub consciously?
Dogma free sexuality coaching.
Knowing what turns you on.
Different types of arousal.
Pleasure as a form of activism.
The orgasm gap.
Relearning and reclaiming pleasure even during menopause.
Cervical orgasms.

So if you're ready to consider re-opening to the idea of pleasure, or you want to able to harbour more of it, this episode is for you.

The Menopause Mindset - 88 Overcoming Obstacles with Julie Angel
play

01/10/22 • 74 min

Julie Angel, who has a PHD in Cine Parkour, explained to me that ageing sets in when we stop playing, and parkour is the ultimate in child's play.
Remember when you were 7 and you threw yourself behind the sofa to avoid being caught in a game of hide and seek or you flung yourself across those monkey bars to avoid being tagged by your sister?

Like, why did we stop all of that?

Julie says that "your body is your biography." And she can tell just by looking at you, what you do the most of. Sitting... yup. Hunching.... yup. Starting at your phone.... yup.

When our range of movement becomes limited, so does our thinking.

With all the 'new year, new you' hype, I thought it would be lovely to bring you this episode to inspire you about exciting ways to move your body and open up your mind.

We discuss:

🕺🏽360 degree movement - why Parkour keeps us young
🕺🏽Deliberately inviting challenge
🕺🏽A thousand mindful reps vs 10 reps in the gym
🕺🏽Imagination knows no age limits
🕺🏽You get good at what you do
🕺🏽How being relaxed makes you stronger
🕺🏽How training in inefficient environments makes you stronger
🕺🏽What is a movement culture and how can we use it to our advantage
🕺🏽Why movement variety is just as important as nutritional variety
🕺🏽Expanding into the possibilities of your range of movement
🕺🏽Why mindset MUST involve the body too
🕺🏽Finding joy in ATTEMPTING to do the movement you cannot do
🕺🏽Cinema, parkour and menopause - it's all connected via creativity

I absolutely loved recording this episode, it was a thrill to connect with this vibrant and beautiful human - My mind expanded so much talking to her. I hope yours does too.

The Menopause Mindset - 67 Self Knowledge with Elizabeth Joseph
play

07/13/21 • 51 min

Elizabeth Joseph is a stay at home mum who speaks candidly about her midlife transition on her instagram account @elizabethjosephnavigating It’s funny and extremely honest as she goes around putting different products and services to the test and writing about them. What I love about Elizabeth is that she’s a self confessed 'non expert' in peri menopause, although she is an expert in her own experience, which is what she talks the most about. You'll enjoy this one.

If you’re worried about menopause, don’t be. It’s a great time to be alive for menopausal women. Why? "There has never been so many of us. We need not feel invisible or marginalised. Never before have so many women reached this stage in their lives so independent, educated, professional and in leadership position. And because of this we have an opportunity to be part of shaping a monumental paradigm shift this recognises women (and women’s menopause) as the powerful transformational force that it is."

Those are the words of my podcast guest today, Lil Glamben.

Lil is a certified Empowerment Coach on a mission to transform beliefs, experiences and options around menopause, so women can connect with and fulfil their souls deepest desires.

Today’s conversation was extraordinary, I hope you’ll join us.

We talk about:
🌙 The fascinating thing the Lil’s mother did to maintain an illusion of youth.

🌙 Messages from our ancestors about menopause.

🌙 The gift of others recognising your pain and turmoil

🌙 The one thing you need to help you get through the chaos of peri meno.

🌙 One of the big super powers of menopause and how to intentionally engage with it.

🌙 What becoming centred actually means from an electric POV

🌙 The invitation menopause gives us to reduce the noise and hear the signal

🌙 What The Golden Girls can teach us about how we’re ageing today.

🌙 The Five Fold Phenomenon of Modern Menopause

The Menopause Mindset - 133 Why Women Are Invisible with Harriet Waley Cohen
play

02/13/23 • 62 min

Do you ever find that no matter how hard you try to fix your mindset, your behaviours and your habits, it still feels like the odds are stacked against you?

I feel it too, sometimes.

In today's episode I speak with Harriet Waley Cohen who is a leadership coach specialising in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion activism.

Our conversation was incredibly eye opening and made me think a lot about the limitations placed upon women by an insidious and crafty system of patriarchal oppression.

Trigger warning. If you DON'T want your world view changed, probably best you don't listen to this episode.

In this conversation Harriet enlightens us on:

🤬 The real reason why many women are not thriving.
🤬 What the 'law of attraction' sphere is in denial of.
🤬 Patriarchal oppression, dirty water and brainwashing.
🤬 The reaction of men in suits when being spoken to about gender inclusivity.
🤬 Why gender based diversity and inclusion goes beyond 'morality.'
🤬 What the statistics REALLY say about gender inclusion and profit.
🤬 Why it's the middle tier managers who struggle with gender equality.
🤬 The questions people who are resistant to gender equality are too ashamed to ask.
🤬 Why we have to allow resistant men to get it wrong.
🤬 Why this is beyond socialist vs capitalist.
🤬 How men actually perceive equality when it comes to women speaking up in meetings.
🤬 Diet culture: Why you need to be super clear about what you're actually buying into....
...and so much more about body imagine, breast cancer, confidence and the inner critic.
This is a jam packed episode and despite this being a heavy topic, Harriet makes this interesting, inspiring and accessible.

So if you want some answers as to why you feel like you're wading through treacle, this episode is for you.
