The Imperfect Mum - Navigating the the highs and lows of Maternity leave.

This week, I explore how to truly enjoy maternity leave. It can be a very lonely time, but if you find your tribe, it really can feel like a holiday.

It's also a reminder that this isn't the time to become an expert at housework. Maternity leave is your time to bond with your baby and recover from the enormous task of growing a child.

The Imperfect Mum - Birth, epidurals and Mum shame

In this episode, I share my experience of birth and explore why we are not allowed to talk more honestly about the realities of birth.
Over 45% of women report having a traumatic birth and a huge part of that is that we are led to believe that because birth is natural it's going to be easy.
If you are struggling with birth trauma or feeling any shame following your birth please join my supportive community. I know my experience of Motherhood was made so much easier by being surrounded by Mums I could be myself with but it took a while to find my tribe. link

This week I'm talking about enabling behaviour. It's going to be one of those topics you might want to switch off from because the thing about therapy is it's not always comfortable, but the reality is nothing amazing happens in our comfort zone. Enabling is about avoiding the uncomfortable avoiding that difficult conversation and doing what we can to keep the peace.
This means accepting the short-term gain but will inevitably lead to long-term pain and before you say no I dont do that listen. We nearly all do and when we break those cycles we can transform our whole life and live more authentically.
This is the hard work we do in Therapy but its the work that breaks generational cycles, ends people pleasing and poor boundaries ruling your life and helps you raise children emotionally intelligent children.
Please let me know what you think and if talking about the therapy side of things was useful or you want more Mum stuff send me a DM or an email with anything you would like me to discuss.
Email: [email protected]
And please leave me a review, if you screenshot it and send it to me Ive decide I'm going to send everyone a free gift ( until the gifts run out).

Welcome to the Happy Mum Life Podcast: Embrace Imperfections & Find Joy in Parenthood

This week's episode of Happy Mum is a bit of a brain dump into the realities of parenthood and embracing the beauty of imperfection.

As parents, we often face overwhelming anxiety due to societal expectations of perfectionism.

In this episode I explore how perfectionism can lead to significant anxiety, especially as life gets busier after becoming a parent. But here's the secret – you don't have to be perfect! I share valuable tips to help you rediscover joy in your parenting journey.

Join me for a dose of inspiration and practical advice to embrace the messy and magical moments of being a Mum.

Remember, being a happy Mum is what truly matters, and it's okay to make mistakes along the way. Let's celebrate the joy of parenting and find contentment in being the best version of ourselves, not the perfect one.

Say goodbye to perfectionism and hello to a more joyful and authentic Mum life!

See you on the Happy Mum podcast! 🎉😄💖

Hi,

I'm finally back! OMG, I've been so bad at staying consistent with the podcast, which is so annoying because I love doing it.

Anyway, back to getting my sh*t together, and I have an amazing guest this week. Helen is a parenting consultant. In a previous life, she was a PICU Nurse and health visitor, and she is also a gentle sleep coach and mum of four—two of whom are neurodiverse.

She is the epitome of the honest mum, and I wish I had her energy in my life when I was a new mum. Actually, thinking about it, I'm going to have a bit of an Instagram cull as I want more people with Helen's kind of fun energy and fewer of the 'you will mess up your kids if you don't do this one thing' types.

We talk all things sleep, how different children are, and my most recent struggle getting over jet lag. FYI, I'm not complaining; the trip to Mexico was so worth it, but we all know jet lag's not fun.

If you want to find out more about Helen, find her on Instagram @essential_parenting, and for more information about working with me, it's @theimperfect_therapist.

The Imperfect Mum - My top tips to make your Maternity leave magical.

06/10/24 • 21 min

This week on the podcast I share my tips to start enjoying maternity. I know having a new baby is a lot but it can also be so much fun, I loved my first Matrenity leave. Second time round not so much because I couldn't t do any of these things as it was lockdown.
You dont have to be on maternity to get value from this episode if you are really struggling and not getting any time to yourself I share how I still made time for me, my friends, family, my relationships and even studying because I new as soon as I became a Mum I needed to leave my job and start working for myself.
I would like to caveat I had a very easy baby and all babies are different, but if you do have a baby who cries a lot or doesnt sleep you dont just have to suffer alone and accept that's how motherhood feels.
When we feel calmer and happier our children get to feel that and anything you can do to make life feel less overwhelming will only benefit them.
