Quick wins for B2B social media, and unraveling the WordPress vs WP Engine conflict
Marketers of the Universe: A digital marketing podcast
11/13/24 • 39 min
Welcome back to the 'Marketers of the Universe' podcast, in our opinion the number one podcast for B2B marketers.
In this episode, we give you the secrets to mastering social media success for B2B companies with insights from our social media savants, Debbie and Saufi. Drawing on their years of experience, we will provide valuable strategies for better understanding your audience, and breaking beyond the confines of LinkedIn, the reigning B2B platform. We'll explain why it's essential to diversify your social media efforts and how competitor analysis can sharpen your approach, while harnessing platforms like Reddit and TikTok for engaging audiences during their off-hours.
Our second segment has copywriter Tom Inniss joining the show to discuss the current drama splitting the open-source community: the legal battle between WordPress and WP Engine. We talk about the significance of WordPress to the internet ecosystem, the tensions between WordPress the open-source software, and Automattic, a for-profit venture of the WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg, and how WP Engine found themselves in the crosshairs. Although this legal battle is only just getting started, it could have significant implications for businesses and marketers going forward, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
If you've enjoyed this episode, please subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts, and maybe pass it along to a friend. And, in the wise words of Leo Burnett, "Don't tell me how good you make it; tell me how good it makes me when I use it.”

Marketers of the Universe: A digital marketing podcast
02/14/24 • 35 min
This month on Marketers of the Universe, the team talks tactics, specifically how you can avoid the common pitfalls of digital marketing.
After much delay, Google has finally started to slowly kill off the cookie – but does it really matter? The muted response would certainly seem to suggest not...
We also return to one of our favorite bugbears: boring data. Data is a vital part of smooth business operations, but that doesn’t mean it has to be dry. We name some companies who have nailed their data presentation game.
Finally, we talk about remote working and how it might change your working dynamic. Fun fact: the Digital Marketing Team at Brew Digital is all remote!

Back to basics: Simplifying your marketing plan and re-emphasising face-to-face networking
Marketers of the Universe: A digital marketing podcast
04/17/24 • 31 min
This episode we’re taking things back to basics as the marketers look at the fundamentals of your marketing strategy, and discuss how Covid-19 has impacted face-to-face interactions, four years on.
To kick things off, the team picks apart the fundamentals of digital marketing strategies to emphasise the importance of strong foundations – you don’t want to be building on a layer of sand! They give actionable advice to help you plan your first – or your one-hundredth – campaign, so definitely be ready with a pen!
Sticking with our focus on the fundamentals, our second topic looks at the benefits of face-to-face networking. With the pandemic came the opportunity to move more meetings online, but some of the best work is still done when you can look someone in the eye and feel the energy that only exists when people are together in-person. And, depending on what stats you believe, in-person events might bring better conversions too!

Google’s March 2024 Core Update, and are things trending up for TikTok?
Marketers of the Universe: A digital marketing podcast
05/01/24 • 29 min
Welcome to another episode of Marketers of the Universe, where this time we're looking at Google's new attitude towards AI generated content, and TikTok's burgeoning role as a search engine and viable marketing platform.
**
Generative AI promises to be one of the best consumer unlocks since the introduction of the internet, but before that, we need to deal with its many, many abuses. One such issue is the use of AI to generate copy that is hijacking Google search results with irrelevant, spammy content. Well, the search giant has had enough, and the March 2024 Core Update aims to reduce “unhelpful” content that’s been written for search engines, not humans. SEO experts ShinRoo Chao and Jason Morris talk us through what this means for businesses.
Meanwhile, TikTok continues to dominate conversations – positively and negatively. Although the threat of a US ban looms, the video platform continues to expand in popularity. Young people are increasingly turning to TikTok as a search engine, and marketers are started to find success in B2B advertising. With Mark Bundle hosting, we talk to social media managers Debbie Gacutan-Jardim De Oliveira and Saufi Mohd Nor, alongside paid media manager Ross Stratton to find out if TikTok is the place to be.
