Episode 14: Getting Knocked off Your Feet By a Difficult Second Feeding Experience and How Location and Support Make a Difference with Desi

06/16/22 • 35 min

Lo’s Lactation Lab
Desi is a mom of two children ages 12 and 8. She Gave birth at two different hospitals due to changing access to care after deciding to stay home with her first baby and losing her employer provided insurance. Breastfeeding went relatively smoothly the first time around. She hired a doula, found her care to be fantastic at her hospital birth, and her baby took to nursing easily. It took her by surprise when breastfeeding was much harder and much more painful the second time around. Luckily, the doula she had hired for her first birth was able to recommend a lactation consultant who was able to provide the support she needed. Desi breastfed both of her children well into toddlerhood.
Desi is a dog trainer located in Central, Ma. She does FANTASTIC work. I should know--she trained my dog! If you need help with your dog for training or boarding in Ma or virtually, you can find her here: https://www.dogdaysdogtraining.com/ Follow her on IG @dogdaysofDesiTo join The Milk Making Minutes Facebook Group to discuss episodes, talk to guests, get support and be apart of a community that gets it, click here.To get individualized lactation support from me, Lo-- go here!

Episode 13 "I would be danged If I wasn't going to breastfeed" with Lo's sister Amy

Lo's sister Amy is on the podcast, and it was a delight to have one hour to chat with her about breastfeeding! She has 6 children, three of whom she birthed and breastfed. She had a really tough first experience, that was made even more challenging because she took custody of her three older children when her first biological baby was 4 weeks old and she wasn't even in the swing of things with breastfeeding. Getting her first to latch was very challenging and if it wasn't for lifelong athlete mentality, she would not have made it through. Her second and third were not *as* challenging, but she did have an accidental homebirth on the exact same day that Lo had her homebirth!
