So many things can crop up during the postpartum period, but they are swept under the rug because we assume that they are part of the process, but they don’t have to be. Most women postpartum are more susceptible to nutritional depletion, anemia, osteopenia, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Studies show that one in five women experience signs of postpartum depression. However, if you have more social support, you are less likely to be affected by mental health issues. This makes a postpartum care plan very important. In this episode, Jessica shares her postpartum experience and what she wishes she had done differently to make her transition smoother.

Learn how to create your postpartum plan for a smooth transition into and through the postpartum in this episode of the Mamas in Training Podcast with Jessica D’Argenio Waller!

Mamas in Training: Preparing for Pregnancy & Motherhood - EP115- Your Babies’ Skin: How to Heal Eczema & Cradle Cap with Shubhangini Prakash
play

05/11/22 • 34 min

What if you could heal eczema & cradle cap with only 3 natural ingredients?

Sensitive and irritated skin is very common for our little ones since their skin is still thin and developing. Typically when it happens, we're told to use products with a thousand ingredients that half the time we can't pronounce or worse, a steroid cream that thins the skin even more. After Shubhangini Prakash struggled to heal her son’s eczema, she decided to solve the problem on her own. She created a product that had three simple, natural ingredients that actually come from the earth and cleared up the eczema in just one day! She is on a mission to share with mamas the importance of knowing the ingredients on the products we use for babies’ skin.

Listen in to learn the importance of knowing ingredients and how she can help you solve this problem for your future baby on this episode of the Mamas in Training Podcast.

This week’s episode is a conversation about C-sections, something that doesn’t seem to be discussed. After realizing that very few moms even talk about having a c-section, never-mind going into detail about the challenges around them during and after in recovery, this mama Susannah Hilliard thought it was time to share her experience.

After an emergency c-section, Susannah’s baby was born and she didn’t even know it was happening. Not only that, but her husband was still waiting to be brought into the room to see his son be born, having no idea that he had already arrived. She shares some insight into what the recovery process looks like and is passionate about sharing stories like hers, so that c-section moms know they aren’t alone.

Remember, at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you brought life into the world, no matter how it comes.

***Given the current social climate, Susannah would like to shed light on and recognize that black mothers experience disproportionately high rates of C-sections (35.4% of live births by black mothers were by C-section from the latest data) and death related to pregnancy or childbirth.

As a white mother, she feels it is important to use her voice and any opportunity she can, to address the inequality MOC's experience, even if it's sharing a few links for awareness:

Check out the Etsy link for handmade vegan room sprays, candles, chemical free cleaners and more!

Beginning Sept. 3rd until Oct. 6th (30 days), she is offering 20% off her entire shop!

Emily’s mantra is: Manifest Your Own Transformation and that is something that she has embodied fully since I’ve known her and especially since the birth of her daughter. Emily’s birth was challenging because she didn’t feel ready and the same came with the start of her breastfeeding journey. She discusses how she didn’t know what to do, how to manage and she felt she really needed a lactation consultant for comfort and guidance.

She also encourages mamas to remember that breastfeeding is between you and your baby. Do what you need, when you need and don’t worry about what others think. Emily is still breastfeeding her, now toddler and encourages you to do motherhood in whatever way is best for you.

It’s time for women to speak up for change and tell the world what women and mothers need. Mama, Christine Michel Carter is an advocate for Black and Working Mamas, encouraging them to stand up for change.

While she has an extremely impressive biography, she is as real as you can get. When we signed onto Zoom to chat, she was lounging in her bed. She is proof that you can be a kick ass single mom, inspiring change and hustling while balancing the uncertainty of this world.

We talk about how mothers in the corporate world need to “write the policy” for what women need, the disconnect in our healthcare system and how black women aren’t listened to, especially during childbirth and much much more. Listen and be inspired!

Even though the majority of birth deliveries take place in hospitals, for Hanna, it shouldn't be looked at as solely a medical procedure. In its essence, giving birth is a natural process. In this episode, Hanna Murray talks about medical and natural inductions, the Bishop's Score, and the due diligence that mothers need before giving birth. For Hanna, each pre-birth stage and phase can lead to a smoother delivery if soon-to-be-moms make it a habit to always ask questions about their options.

Mama of two and a pilates instructor for the past 13 years, Nikki Bergen is the creator of The Belle Method and The Bump Method. She discusses the importance of creating a strong pelvic floor and core and becoming empowered in our bodies before we even dive into motherhood. The Bump Method is created specifically for moms and where their/your body is during and after pregnancy. At the same time, she reminds women that it’s never too late to heal yourself.

This mama gave birth on Mother’s Day of this year, in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. She shares her two IVF birth stories and her initial challenges with a heart condition called SVT, (supraventricular tachycardia) that she had as a child, but then it got worse during pregnancy. She had to choose between her husband and her doula when her birth unexpectedly took a turn and she ended up having to go to the hospital, when she planned a home birth.

This inspiring mama was such a ray of sunshine to sit down with and chat. Watch the video on YouTube.

A discussion with Deana and Kira, two moms from Raising Adults Podcast, about how to focus on raising adults- future focused parenting. A long view of parenting where you focus on the values and character traits of the human you are raising and how you want them to positively contribute to the world.

They explain the importance of establishing your WHY for any parenting choice and discovering how that will lead you to the HOW of any parental situation. Deana, a mom from a blended family of five teenagers and Kira, a mom of boy/girl twins had completely different birthing experiences and have different backgrounds, but come together to support families everywhere.

These mamas are chalk-full of helpful tips and tricks with parenting. I could chat with them for hours, learning from them how to raise children with the adult outcome in mind. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
