The Audacious Black Girl podcast is your spot for empowering conversations around mental health, healing, self-care, personal development, and more for visionary black women with your host by Amanda L. Paul, a psychotherapist. We get vulnerable and real here because that inner work can be a little messy, but, in the wise words of Ms. Lauren Hill, "how you gon' win if you ain't right within?" Amanda is your guide and mentor on your journey, helping you get right within so you can show up and out in the world.
Follow Amanda @audaciousblackgirl https://www.instagram.com/audaciousblackgirl/New Episode every other Wednesday!

As mental health clinicians we all know that self-care is important. We talk with our clients about it ALL.THE.TIME and yet, ironically, we often struggle with it ourselves! Even worse, we tend to do this in silence, because, who wants to let any of our colleagues know that we might be struggling with our own self-care? After all, aren’t we supposed to be the experts in this?!
Here’s the thing: There are unique factors (about our training, our work, and our gender socialization) that contribute to the very real and normal struggle that we, especially as female mental health clinicians, have when it comes to our own self-care. The good news is that together we can lessen the struggle but only if we’re willing to break the silence.
Join us, Dr. Karen Dyck and Dr. Melissa Tiessen of Intentional Therapist, to learn how to re-think what challenges our self-care efforts as females in this profession. And get on board with a whole new concept of what self-care can look like, using our 4 C’s model: Connection, Compassion, Courage, and Creativity. We hope that through our down-to-earth discussions with other like-minded mental health clinicians you will be inspired to elevate your own self-care, and move from simply surviving to truly thriving.
Because, in the end, taking care of ourselves is not only how we best take care of our clients, but it’s also how we create the kind of life from which we don’t need to escape. (We know, intriguing concept!)

"Hey Man, I’ve Heard You Sold Your Dreams" is a collection of literary works by Benjamin G. Dubel. It is a treasure trove of poems that reaches deep into the mind and soul of youth with all its innocence and infinite wisdom. The author was but 17 years old when most of these were composed, yet they reflect a depth and maturity of someone who has experienced so much more in such a short time. His observations and thoughts of life, as well as various events he witnesses during this tumultuous time of development, are warm and heartfelt. The poems unleash an unbridled spirit and raw honesty of emotion as the author takes us on a journey throughout the ebbs and flows of his life. The struggles and grace of transcending into adulthood lie tenderly within the phrases of passion, pain, joy and confusion. He manages to collect and articulately document his thoughts and feelings on many facets of life. He captures the essence of the moment and writes with such clarity that is becomes easy to share in the experience. From heartache to heartbreak, disappointment to elation, each poem is chock full of some pivotal point in a youth’s life. The poem written in response to the Columbine massacre for example, shares a message of disdain and disappointment for such a heinous act. He calls out the vigilantes' “one-way ticketed suicidal mission” and the sadness and memories left behind. In the poem entitled “Dreams”, his inspirational thoughts state “Life isn’t as hard as you think it seems, it’s always easier to look back and laugh” and in another segment “It’s a shame you had to go and let the best years of your life get you down”. Despite various components of challenge and adversity, the author somehow manages to find a positive spin of hope and revelation. This is a tribute to youth, both young and old and serves as testament that life is not easy, nor is it intended to be, but shows that in the end, you will be much richer for having lived through the experiences. Here are two examples from the collection of 130 poems: Poem 1 There are times I find myself sitting here wondering, if I ever see you again someday, could you forgive me? Even though it seems like you are so far away these days I look back now just to see I’ve been left behind ... and if I could ever stand back up after falling down I know things would be different this time around. Well, I guess this is where I stand now before you forever guilty as sin, for everything I’ve done. But what difference does that make now anymore there’s a part of me that’s dead inside ... knowing only memories, my mind keeps going blank as the thoughts of you wash away this time around. 2004 Poem 2 * "Dreams" Hey man ... I hear you sold your dreams. Why did you run down the wrong path? Life isn’t as hard as you think it seems, it’s always easier to look back and laugh. Are you mad ‘cuz there’s no one to blame? Were you hoping that we would listen? I’m sorry that this happened, it’s a shame. There’s a way out but something is missin'. Hey man ... I tried to tell you but you were always never around. It’s a shame you had to go and let the best years of your life get you down. So look at you now, is this where you stand? Why do you keep your mind in prison? You had so much going for you as a man but it looks like you have lost your vision. Hey man ... you know I cried for you but no one ever seemed to care. Nothing anyone can say will correct the past, so I just hope you’ve found your way there.

Through personal stories and struggles, each episode creates space to slow down and be curious about what shapes the stuck spaces of our spiritual formation. If you've ever felt spiritually stuck or simply want to journey deeper in your spirituality, join me to explore how understanding the many facets of our embodied beings helps us cultivate new rhythms in our lives. Anchored in the messiness of real life, each episode explores cross-sections of some of my favorite things, including, interpersonal neurobiology, nervous system regulation, contemplative practices, and parts work. I’m a trauma-informed therapist who holds a second master’s degree in biblical studies and has served in a spiritual formation fellowship -- and before any of these things, I'm simply a human navigating the messiness of life and faith. These perspectives have come together in my life in meaningful ways, crafting new rhythms, which I’d love to share with you here. To connect on social media, follow @a.c.seiple on Instagram. Kat and Moose is a true-life podcast where we explore the quirks of being human.
Kat and Moose Podcast is a true-life podcast exploring the quirks of being human. Some have called us a "funny mental health podcast." We are three friends (Kat, Moose, and Producer Sara) who share stories and explore topics related to spirituality, mental health, mid-life, relationships, bodywork, loving ourselves, and living our best lives. We also sprinkle in some enneagram and five-element theory. We work in the music industry in Nashville, which also gets dabbled in.

Recently, a dear listener shared this about us:

"To quote the fabulous Indigo Girls, my thanks to the Kat & Moose podcast because "You helped me take my life less seriously."
