Let's Chat... Police Chaplains (with Jared Altic)

#034. What's it like working as a Police Chaplain, being on a ride along, or at a crime scene? What do they wear? Do they get to use the sirens?!
Welcome to Let’s Chat... These episodes pop-up every now and then instead of one of our 101 different types of loss, as I (Claire Sandys, one of the co-hosts of The Silent Why podcast) chat to a guest who has experience or expertise in a particular area that can help us either deal with, or prepare for, loss.
And I'm building a tool kit, well actually a whole tool shed, of equipment to help you face and get through loss. And I'm very keen to see what each guest adds to my new shed.
In this Let’s Chat... I spoke to Jared Altic about Police Chaplains.
Jared Altic has 25 years of experience serving and counselling military and law enforcement families, responding to families of crime victims and working long term with police in areas of wellness. He’s a full-time Pastor and voluntary Police Chaplain at his local police department in Kansas City.
In this episode we spoke about the kinds of situations a Police Chaplain might be able to help with, what does Jared do on a 'ride along' or at a crime scene, why it's important to have chaplains in a job like this, and what Jared has to put in place to avoid compassion fatigue himself.

BLOG: My Why: Hermontage
Our podcast is about loss, but it's also about hope. And the biggest dollop of hope we've received so far comes from our guests and their answers to the final question we always ask.
Welcome to another My Why from Claire Sandys (co-host of The Silent Why podcast). My Why episodes are weekly audio shorts of my latest blog post. If you'd prefer to read it, you can find it here: thesilentwhy.com/post/hermontage
At the end of every Silent Why conversation we ask our guests: What's your Herman? In this My Why I briefly explain why and what it means (for a full explanation visit: thesilentwhy.com/herman) and share with you what each of our guests wants to say to you from their loss, to bless you in yours.

BLOG: My Why: The season of June
What can we learn from this month that helps us the rest of the year?
This My Why is the next episode of my ‘To every thing there is a season’ series, where on the first Friday of the month for a year I am sharing lessons I’m learning from each month of the year, and we’ve reached June.
Welcome to another My Why from Claire Sandys (co-host of The Silent Why podcast).
My Why episodes are weekly audio shorts of my latest blog post. If you'd prefer to read it, you can find it here: thesilentwhy.com/post/theseasonofjune
June is often a month about reflection apparently, and being halfway through the year I can see why, but as I was reflecting last month for me June feels more about movement - no matter how small. Join me as I muse over the Jubilee celebrations here in the UK, whether June is actually spring or summer, marzipan, and how to move forward - even if it feels like moving through treacle for you right now.
