Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I'm Claire, I live in the beautiful Gloucestershire, England with my husband. My work background is in marketing, among many other areas of admin/organisation/PA/operations type work. I also love to read, write fiction, drink Earl Grey and eat marzipan in my spare time.

Why did you get into podcasting?

I got into podcasting to help open up conversations around loss and grief. I love deep, meaningful conversations and I'm not afraid to talk to people going through big things, so I thought, rather than have these conversations in private, let's open them up for others to hear. I hope it helps people get better at talking about loss, grief and hope. I also really believe it's possible to find hope in any situation, and I wanted to test that theory.

How did the idea for the show come about?

After going through childlessness (well, still am!) and facing a loss/grief that not many people understood or knew how to talk about, I thought it would be interesting to talk to others who felt the same way with their losses - so I launched a mission to find 101 different types of loss. Although that did sound a bit depressing, so I decided to also ask our guests if they think it's possible to find hope through their grief. What do you hope listeners take from the show?

Hope! I want people to see that it's possible to find hope in even the worst losses and griefs. It might not come straight away, it's not easy, it's always a choice - but I do think it's possible. But most of all I want people to know they're not alone in what they're going through.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

Doing this as a hobby, it's a lot of work for almost no pay. I believe in the subject, I think it's important, but it's very hard to get your message far and wide without a celebrity or money.

How can your listeners support your show?

They can review us, share an episode with people they know or on social media, or donate to the work I do via www.buymeacoffee.com/thesilentwhy 😉

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

I plan to use the podcast to develop new ways to support people and share the message that you're not alone with the feelings of grief. I'll also eventually get that novel published!

Anything else you'd like to share?

Thank you to anyone that listens to the podcast, it means so much that people choose to spend their precious time with me and such an important subject.
