We are thrilled to bring you today's guest, Sue Groner, an experienced mother, certified positive discipline parent educator and author of her new book, "Parenting with Sanity and Joy: 101 Simple Strategies."

Sue is passionate about helping parents to become more happier and more relaxed while parenting. And who doesn't want to be happy and relaxed even during those challenging parenting moments?

Sue believes that what we often view as problems that need fixing, are in fact opportunities for our kids. We talk about the fear that we have as parents about who our child(ren) will become as adults and how worrying can hold us back from enjoying the parenting experience.

As an experienced mother, Sue Groner knows how stressful and overwhelming parenting can be at times. She founded The Parenting Mentor to provide an ally for parents in their quest to raise confident and resilient children. Sue is also the creator of the CLEARR method of parenting, developed through years of trial (and her fair share of errors!) with her own family. CLEARR adheres to the belief that parenting strategies should be grounded in six important pillars: Community, Love, Empathy, Awareness, Rules and Respect.

A graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a former advertising executive, Sue resides in New York City and Bedford, NY with her husband, two children (when they are not away at school) and their rescue dog. She is available for private, group and virtual mentorship sessions nationwide for individuals as well as corporations.

We met Sue through HeyMama, which is a private, social and professional network created to propel mothers forward in work and life. It is a community that provides ambitious women—across industries and stages of motherhood—with support, mentorship and experiences to foster their success.

Today’s guest is Michele Vig, who is a Professional Organizer

Michele Vig, an accomplished executive in corporate America for two decades, founded Neat Little Nest to follow her personal passion to help unlock people from their clutter and to create the beautifully organized spaces they’ve always dreamed about.

Michele and her business have been featured in a variety of new media including Domino Magazine, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine, KARE 11 TV, WCCO-TV, FOX 9 TV, as WCCO, and MY TALK radio.

Michele is one of a handful of KonMari certified decluttering professionals at a gold level or higher and is a recognized member of the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals. She is one of Minnesota’s top 50 women in business as well as a featured “40 under 40” in Minneapolis Business Journal.

Michelle has recently written a book called “The Holistic Guide to Decluttering” that will be published this Fall on the notion that there are three forms of clutter - space, time and mind that are intricately linked. In order to holistically declutter your life, you need to dig into each of these areas, which she will dive into today. Organizing is much of an art that is unique to everyone.

Michelle opens up and shares her own personal journey and what led her to embark on her professional organization business. Of course we talk about many hot topics when it comes to decluttering, such as, photos, paper and objects that carry emotional attachment. Michelle shares her unique and personalized approach to working with clients, whereby she asks thoughtful questions to get to the root of what’s causing the clutter or disorganized space. She helps her clients get "unstuck" and work through the history and stories embedded in the physical objects that are often difficult to remove from their homes.

The advice she shares through her own personal experience as well as working with numerous clients, will inspire you to listen to your heart, slow down and hit pause when needed, in order to find peace in your day to day life. This episode is perfectly placed during this current environment and we encourage each of you to find one piece of advice to implement into your life today to bring you joy. Drop us a note and let us know what you will do this week to help you find more joy in your life.

Today's inspiring guest is Michele Horovitz. Michelle is one of the co-founders and Executive Director of Appetite For Change (AFC), a nonprofit social enterprise organization dedicated to using food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change. AFC works with residents to build strong families and healthy, equitable communities around food. They also own and operate Kindred Kitchen, a shared commercial kitchen incubator and Breaking Bread Café and Catering, a youth social enterprise serving North Minneapolis.

Michelle graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Bioethics and Spanish and earned a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. She worked as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami-Dade County before working for James Beard Award winning Chef Michelle Bernstein as a prep cook, line cook and assistant to the pastry chef. After returning to Minneapolis she co-founded Appetite For Change. She is a dedicated leader, passionate about social and racial justice, and serves on the Board of Directors for Jewish Community Action. Michelle enjoys yoga, biking and spending time with her family and friends. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, two children, two dogs and 1 hamster.

In this inspiring episode Michelle discusses how eating healthy is tough for everyone, regardless of age, family status, how much time or money you have. She then explains how living in a community without farmers markets, healthy retail options, limited grocery store availability and reliable transportation make it so much harder.

We talk about how people often think that low-income communities just don't know what healthy is, or care about eating well, but it's often the policies systems, and the environment around us that influences our eating habits. Often times communities lack resources to solve their own health issues, but they don't need to be told what the solutions are, or "saved" by people who live outside their communities. It's more about the resources, social networks and assets in a community that prevent people from achieving their wellness goals.

We also discuss how health and wellness means different things for different people, but it's often stereotypes and fears of the unknown that keep us from trying new things. For example: black people aren't vegan, eating "healthy" is a white person thing, you have to have a lot of money to eat fresh and local foods, growing your own food is hard and you can't do it if you don't own your own property, etc.

We also hear all all about the foundation, the cafe, catering company, community garden and all the other amazing things her organization is working on - including a super cool rap video "Grow Food."

Michelle ends by sharing a powerful story about a woman, her journey and how Appetite for Change impacted her life.

In today's episode we talk about clean-crafted wines and why you should care about what's in your favorite glass of vino. While we both love wine, we’ve started to notice negative side effects of drinking wine and began diving deeper into the ingredients and farming practices that often result in headaches and honestly, feeling like crap the next day. We have both been on a mission in recent years to find clean wine that tastes good and we have tried a variety of organic, clean and sustainable wines.

So what is clean-crafted wine?

-Grown naturally with no synthetic pesticides -Bottled consciously—no added sugars, chemical preservatives, or anything else -Nothing added that isn’t found in nature -Clean-Crafted makes us unique—no one else can claim Clean-CraftedTM We love that every bottle of clean-crafted wine is independently tested twice to make sure it is free of sugars, chemical preservatives, or anything else that isn’t found in nature.

We’re not suggesting you should start drinking daily but for those who do choose to enjoy wine we are excited to share a cleaner option that can be delivered right to your door. What we also love about Scout & Cellar is that you can choose which varieties you want to buy and you can order at your leisure. We also love that there are a variety of price points and types of wine that vary based on the season (check out their great rosé collection).

Here is a link to our shop along with a few of our favorite wines.

In this bonus episode we chat with Betsy Weiner about meditation and how a daily meditation practice is so incredibly beneficial (and especially during these challenging times). We learn about how to set-up a sacred space, and really, how simple meditation can be. Betsy guides us through a wonderful meditation during the show that will leave you calm and relaxed.

Betsy is an inspiring teacher, guide and leader and we so enjoyed having her on the show.

Power Yoga in Baltimore, MD. Betsy met her teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker in 2005 and is one of only 5 ParaYoga Teachers in the state of Minnesota; currently a Level II Certified ParaYoga teacher; one of just 27 in the world. She holds a certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in Health and Wellness Coaching. Betsy is also a Four Desires coach (Dharma or Soul Coach), which is a systematic approach to uncover the clients' deepest purpose, what their limiting beliefs are, and how to create a life of fulfillment and meaning. Today's episode with Monica Helland was so much fun! We took a field trip to Fusion Life Spa in Deephaven, MN. It is such a beautiful and relaxing space with the cutest gift shop. You just want to hang out there all day. And the massages and facials are pretty awesome as well - in addition to Monica's services of course!

This episode was recorded shortly before the Coronavirus Pandemic exploded and stay at home orders were put in place. Please keep this in mind as you listen to the epsiode.

Monica is a second generation acupuncturist and herbalist with a warm and innovative approach to whole body health. Monica is Minneapolis’ active expert in digestive health, fertility, and cosmetic acupuncture. Her approach to healing stems from revered and ancient remedies. Along with her clinical experience, she brings to her practice a deeply intuitive and gentle approach to acupuncture and Eastern medicine.

Licensed in acupuncture by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, and nationally board-certified from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), Monica graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Minnesota College of Oriental Medicine at Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2011. As of January 2019 Monica has begun working toward her Doctoral degree with the Pacific College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Her journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine began at a young age when Monica’s aunt, Diana Gross, L.Ac., a well-respected acupuncturist in Minneapolis, introduced her to the medicine. Over the years, Monica personally received great benefit from Diana’s treatments and a wealth of knowledge from her teachings. Monica says, “Today I continue the legacy my aunt Diana Gross, L.Ac. began many years ago, and now I, too, am an ambassador of this great medicine.”

Monica lives with her husband Charles, son Otis, and Siberian forest cats Sofia and Viggo in Plymouth, MN.

In today's conversation, we dive into Traditional Chinese Medicine and specifically acupuncture. We learn how Monica's services can treat and heal many conditions including: pain, digestive health, women's fertility/women's health, insomnia, allergies, Menopause, ADHD and much more. She even works in cosmetic acupuncture which we really want to learn more about and we are planning to have Monica back for an entire episode on this topic!

Monica also explains how she helps patients determine what the underlying root problem is of the patients "dis-ease" in the body. She does this through a variety of methods. Monica shares a few stories of her patient's experiences with acupuncture and how it has helped them.

We also discuss illness prevention and building immunity whether it pertains to the common flu or a Coronavirus and she leaves us with some tips and tricks on how to be on top of seasonal allergies. We also discuss "Liver Season" and a few tips on how to get your liver up and going for the day.

We wrap-up talking about ear seeds. Ear seeds are small seeds used to stimulate pressure points in your ear. They're a type of auriculotherapy, which refers to acupressure or acupuncture focused on the ear. They're based on the same general principles as acupuncture.
