The Art of Living Well Podcast®

We are so excited to welcome today’s guest, Lisa Whalen.

Lisa Whalen has a Ph.D. in postsecondary and adult education from Capella University and an M.A. in creative and critical writing from Hamline University. She teaches composition, literature, and creative writing at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Her debut book, Stable Weight: A Memoir of Hunger, Horses, and Hope, has received advance praise from eating disorder specialists, literature professors, and horse trainers.

Her memoir, Taking the Reins, is in the process of submission for publication. For more information about it, refer to her Upcoming page.

In her spare time, she rides horses and volunteers at the Animal Humane Society.

On today’s show, we hear how a lifetime of trying to be perfect lands Lisa in the psych ward at the age of 29. She shares how her eating-disorder treatment set her on a path towards health, but ultimately her progress stalls until she meets 10 special horses who teach her to face her fears, trust her intuition, live in the moment, and love her body.

We also dive into how contact with animals can be therapeutic outside of a formal animal therapy program. We hear about how animals can ground us in the present moment, provide unconditional acceptance and help us heal from life's challenges.

This episode is filled with so many fantastic tips and strategies for people that may struggle with perfectionism, body image or depression.

E88: Inspiration to age in a healthy and vibrant way and reverse your biological age with OneSkin co-founder and CEO Carolina Reis Oliveira, PhD

We are so excited to introduce today’s guest, Carolina Reis Oliveira, who is the Co-founder and CEO of OneSkin.

Carolina holds a biochemistry degree and a Ph.D. in stem cell biology and is an alumnus of IndieBio, the world's leading biotechnology accelerator. In 2016 she relocated to Silicon Valley from Latin America to co-found One Skin, a biotech company developing solutions to target skin aging at the molecular level and extend the health of your skin and body. She is a co-inventor of 3 patents, co-author of numerous scientific publications, and has been an advocate of skin health in the longevity community. The Company’s signature product OS-1 just launched in early 2021 and has already received amazing feedback from users.

In today’s conversation Carolina shares how One Skin’s unique formula of their signature OS-1 product helps to reduce inflammation and prevent aging. The founders created a peptide by carefully selecting the ingredients to address the root cause of aging and to activate our good genes (that will increase collagen production) and reduce those genes that increase inflammation.

Carolina shares how our skin affects our bodies health as we age and how what we put on our skin can help reduce inflammation and help prevent aging.

This episode is packed with powerful information and science backed studies, so if you like to dive deep and really understand the aging process and what you can do to reduce visible and internal signs of aging, then you won’t want to miss this conversation.

We discuss how OS-1 contains a carefully selected list of ingredients that are not only effective in reducing aging but safe as well.

Finally, Carolina shares how lifestyle and overall habits influence the aging process and how you can reverse your biological age regardless of your chronological age.

Special Offer:

One Skin has a special offer for all of our listeners to try OS-1. Simply enter code SKINSPAN15 at checkout for 15% off your purchase.

You can find OneSkin/Carolina on:

We recommend subscribing to their newsletter for healthy tips not only for your skin but your entire body.

Check out the Environmental Working Group and their handy app for OS-1's low score and use this to evaluate the products you use daily on your skin.
