One of the hardest things when it comes to planning for growth, is estimating your future revenue and setting goals around how much you’ll grow month on month and year on year.

Business owners and leaders crave predictable, profitable growth.

But, most people who have been in business for even a short while, know from experience that there are a lot of variables outside your control, which makes it extremely difficult to plan ahead with confidence.

It also makes it extremely difficult for many entrepreneurs to spend money with confidence on things like advertising or other strategies to generate that growth.

What then happens, is business owners proceed with a high degree of caution and are very conservative with their marketing investments – not wanting to risk too much money until they have proof that their ads or other activities are getting good results, and assuming that they’ll then be able to scale up in time to achieve their goals.

Unfortunately, this rarely produces the results that they’re after, which then dents the business owner's level of confidence and their motivation to keep at it.

For starters, they often don’t go out with the right mix of channels required to get the best results.

There’s also a commonly-held misconception that you can never guarantee any kind of specific result when it comes to your digital marketing.

However, as the business owner, or if you work with a marketing specialist that does work across all of those channels to implement whole-of-business growth strategies, then there are ways to be able to predict your revenue and profit growth with a high level of accuracy.

And in 2024, with the state of our economy right now, net profit growth is probably far more important than top line revenue growth. So if you don’t master this, you will definitely struggle more...

So today on the show, I’m going to walk you through the revenue growth modelling method I’ve developed that leads to much more accurate growth predictions and overall better results, both in terms of revenue and profits.

Scale My Ecommerce Store - My Journey Of Inspiration: 6 Must-Read Books in 2023
play

12/29/23 • 56 min

Ever wondered why some people seem to have a Midas touch in building their business?

It’s not just luck; it’s about filling the right buckets – knowledge, skills, network, resources, and reputation – in a specific order. This systematic approach can unlock your potential and set you on the path to success and fulfilment.

At the very outset, the most critical bucket to fill is knowledge. Think of it as the foundation of a skyscraper. The stronger the foundation, the higher you can build.

For me, my go-to for gaining new knowledge and ideas is books.

Of course I do other things to help me build my business: working with mentors, growing my team and networking with peers, to name a few.

But without the knowledge and ideas first, nothing new or different will ever happen.

In this episode, I share the insights I gleaned from my top 6 favourite books this year. Hopefully one or two will inspire you!

Scale My Ecommerce Store - What To Focus On Next In Your Business
play

07/03/23 • 29 min

Not to be dramatic, but the internet is plagued with distractions and illegitimate experts.

So let me tell you, If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that the number of Instagram followers you have has nothing to do with the systemization and automation of your sales growth.

Let’s be honest, you’re probably thinking “What does that have to do with anything about what to focus on next”

Trust me, this statement will make sense by the end!

So the other day, I was speaking with an online store owner, and I asked her what her goal was for the next year.

“Increase sales by 20%” came the response.

So my next question was, “How will you achieve that? What will you do?”

And her first response was that she aims to grow her Instagram followers.

Obviously, she’d made the assumption that more followers equals more sales, even though she had no evidence that that strategy was working for her so far...

As Einstein so eloquently said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.

And I would add to that to say, ESPECIALLY in a year when things have changed so drastically in terms of how consumers are behaving and how we do business.

Yet so many of us continue to do the same things in our business and wonder why we’re not getting the results we desire!

We live and work in an environment where the only guaranteed constant is change.

So we need to have a method to figure out what is and is not working, so that we can then pivot and implement new strategies.

So, in today’s podcast episode, I want to walk you through 5 tips to figure out WHAT to focus on in your business.

Scale My Ecommerce Store - Unlock The 5 Levels of Scaling a Profitable Brand
play

01/09/24 • 39 min

The other day, I read a news article about a 13 year old kid from Oklahoma who became the first person ever to win the video game Tetris.

Long believed to be an impossible myth, the player – Willis Gibson – reached level 157 and a score of 999,999, launching the never-seen-before “kill screen” where the game crashes and there’s nothing left to play.

The video game of Tetris was first launched in 1985, so it’s taken humans nearly 4 decades to master every possible level of the game.

Thankfully, it doesn’t need to take that long to achieve each level of growing a business!

Though understanding what each level of scale is and how to master it will be a necessary starting point if you do want to master the game of scaling a business.

I’ve spent most of my career helping business owners scale their companies through mastering their marketing to acquire more customers.

Customer acquisition was THE key to scale...or at least I thought so.

But over time, I began to realise we were just scratching the surface as it relates to “scaling a company...”

Because scale is about so much more than just revenue growth and customer acquisition.

There are 5 distinct levels, or phases, you must pass through in order to successfully scale a profitable business.

And, if you aren’t growing nearly as fast as you want, chances are you’re stuck in one of them.

So in this episode, I’m going to share what the five levels of scale are and what you need to do and achieve at each level before you can move on to the next.

Scale My Ecommerce Store - Cracking The Code On International Women’s Day
play

03/07/23 • 44 min

This year, the theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Cracking the code: innovation for a gender equal future’.

Growing up, I was taught to believe that girls and women had an equal right to education and opportunities in the work place. However soon after university and at the start of my career I realised that the reality was not even close to women having equal opportunities.

Let’s look at the stats for 2022:

  • We still have an over 13% gender pay gap. Meaning, for every $1 a bloke earns, women earn just 87c.
  • Women comprise 51% of the Australian workforce, but represent only:
  • 34.5% of key management positions
  • 32.5% of directors
  • 19.4% of CEOs, only 7% of which are in publicly listed companies
  • 18% of board chairs
  • Two thirds of businesses were started by women over the last 10 years, but men are 3.5x more likely to reach the million dollars a year revenue mark.

Not exactly equal right?

Today’s interview isn’t just about tech and code or even about e-commerce. But it is about highlighting the injustices that are still in our everyday lives, as women, even in 2023. And to inspire all of us to remember that as entrepreneurs we can make a difference. And the importance of women supporting women and ensuring we have strong female role models.

Today’s guest not only talks the talk but she walks the walk. Dr Eva Balun-Vnuk, founder of start up HerTech Path, joins me on the podcast today to talk about the challenges faced within the tech industry and women in general and how her start-up, HerTech is turning that around.

Celebrate International Women’s Day with us and be inspired by the future with Dr Eva Balun-Vnuk.

The holiday season is peak sales time for most eCommerce retailers. So, have you started thinking about how your social media advertising is going to lead you through this peak season?

I’ve literally just been sitting here going through the campaign strategy and detailed budget planning for our clients. Literally working out down to the dollar, how much revenue should come from paid vs organic channels, how much from new vs returning customers, and how much each client can afford to spend on ads to get each purchase conversion, based on their average order value and cost of goods.

All those numbers will mean diddly squat, though, without nailing the creative strategy and the offer. Because these are the two elements that actually stop the scroll and help get the click in the first place!

So, if you’re not already running paid social ads right now, OR you are but you’re spending too much and not making a profit, then this episode is for you.
