Productive Not Busy Podcast - Turning Obstacles into Opportunities: The Struggle Survival Guide
play

05/22/22 • 49 min

For most people, this is one of the more challenging aspects of life. We set goals with enthusiasm, and energetically take action to achieve them. Everything looks great, for a while. Then it happens. The setback. We’ve been stalled out, and suddenly have no idea what to do next. Things come grinding to a halt, and the world feels like it’s coming to an end.

But to a particular personality type, this is the fun part. The obstacle becomes not so much a stopping point as a challenge, an opportunity to discover something new about yourself or about the world you live in. Obstacles are what create growth and make life more enjoyable. It’s a radical thought, isn’t it? In this book, you’re going to find a survival guide to get through those rough places. We’ll start with a look at life and the kinds of obstacles we all face. We’re also going to discover the sometimes-surprising benefits of obstacles. From there, you’ll find out how to take on the obstacles in your life and turn them into opportunities. Are you ready to look at life in a new way? If so, read on. You’re going to be amazed at just how exciting this whole process is!

The dictionary defines the word “obstacle” as “a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress.” When you hear the word, you might imagine an obstacle course. As a child, you probably played on several such courses. You might have even created your own with branches and rocks, setting up various challenges in your backyard or on the playground. Your obstacle course might have involved a series of activities such as running, jumping, hopping, or crawling. If you were ever in the military, you’ve trained on the more grown-up versions of these courses, pushing your body to the absolute physical limits to get through to the other side. When a child is confronted with an obstacle course, they never pause to consider the possibility of stopping. They charge full speed ahead, and when they come to something blocking their progress to the finish line, they look at it as a challenge. The obstacle is a puzzle, something to get through, or up, or over until they are on the other side. What’s more, every obstacle becomes an opportunity to show off their physical prowess and thinking skills to their peers. It’s a way of saying, “Watch me do this!”

Welcome . In this episode, we're going to talk about the importance of the meet and greet in sales and why soft skills like eye contact, voice inflection, and body language are so crucial to sales success. First off, let's define what we mean by the "meet and greet" in sales. It's the first interaction between a salesperson and a potential customer, whether it's in-person, on the phone, or through video conferencing. The meet and greet sets the tone for the entire sales process, so it's crucial to make a positive first impression. Now, let's talk about why soft skills are so important in the meet and greet. Soft skills are interpersonal skills that are difficult to measure but can make a huge impact on the success of a salesperson. These skills include things like eye contact, voice inflection, and body language. Eye contact is one of the most important soft skills in sales. When you make eye contact with a potential customer, you're showing them that you're interested in what they have to say and that you're trustworthy. It also helps you to build rapport with the customer, which is crucial in establishing a relationship of trust and respect. Voice inflection is another important soft skill in sales. Your tone of voice can convey a lot of information about your attitude, confidence, and enthusiasm. By using the right tone of voice, you can project confidence and enthusiasm, which can help you to persuade the customer to buy from you. Body language is also critical in sales. It's been said that up to 90% of communication is nonverbal, which means that the way you carry yourself can speak volumes about your intentions, feelings, and attitude. For example, if you slouch or avoid eye contact, you're sending a message that you're not confident or trustworthy. On the other hand, if you stand up straight, make eye contact, and use open gestures, you're projecting confidence and openness. So, why are these soft skills so important in sales? Because they help you to establish a connection with the customer. People buy from people they like and trust, and soft skills can help you to build that rapport quickly and effectively. In fact, studies have shown that customers are more likely to buy from salespeople who use soft skills effectively. Finally, let's talk about how you can improve your soft skills in the meet and greet. The first step is to be aware of your body language, tone of voice, and eye contact. Practice standing up straight, making eye contact, and using open gestures. Practice using the right tone of voice to convey confidence and enthusiasm. Another way to improve your soft skills is to practice active listening. This means paying attention to what the customer is saying, asking questions, and showing interest in their needs and concerns. By actively listening, you can build rapport with the customer and show them that you're genuinely interested in helping them. In conclusion, the meet and greet is one of the most crucial stages in the sales process, and soft skills like eye contact, voice inflection, and body language are critical to sales success. By improving your soft skills, you can establish rapport with customers quickly and effectively, build trust and respect, and ultimately close more sales. Productive Not Busy Podcast - Don't be a D#@%- what leaders must avoid at all costs
play

11/17/22 • 7 min

Some leaders believe that everything revolves around them and that whatever they say is correct. When you become self-absorbed or have an exalted ego, you create your own sense of reality, making it impossible to gain the trust of other team members. Trust is critical. Leaders are unable to generate buy-in from team members at any level of the organization without it.

A genuine sense of community is required to move a health-care system forward. When animosity exists among team members, it is impossible for everyone to put their shoulders to the wheel together. Some leaders believe that encouraging competition among members of their C-suite is a highly effective motivational strategy, but you would be hard pressed to find a successful sports team that thrives on this dynamic. The best teams in any sport emerge from the locker room ready to fight for one another, and they understand that resentment jeopardizes their chances of success. Healthcare organizations are no exception, and leaders who believe otherwise are doomed.

We gravitate naturally towards being comfortable. If you’re offered a chair in a room with multiple open places to sit, you’re probably going to seek out the seat which looks like it will fit your body best, providing not just support but the perfect angle of the back and the right cushioning or support for the spine. You'll even want the chair in a position where the lighting is good, and you have a clear view.

Comfort.

We like cushions and soft fabrics to the point where an entire billion-dollar industry is based on bed pillows. We want shoes that cushion our feet, food served at the perfect temperature with the coffee neither too hot nor too cold. Even dream jobs are best if they aren't too demanding but offer just enough intellectual stimulation. You feel adequately challenged and well-satisfied at the end of each day.

We like things to stay the same, so we gravitate toward routines. Days without surprises are easily managed. We even talk about being 'comfortable' to say one is financially secure. Comfort is considered the ultimate goal of a life well spent.

It’s also the greatest prison cell you’ll ever devise for yourself.

Comfort is all about staying safe. It is all about things being predictable and life without demands. Comfort can be a very good thing – unless you want to grow and succeed in life. Comfort keeps us where we are, giving us no reason to challenge ourselves, learn new things, or discover what we're capable of doing.

In this book, we will take you into the world of possibility. You'll find out about comfort zones, why everyone loves them and how they hold you back. We'll talk about discomfort and the science behind making yourself uncomfortable, and how discomfort can be used to propel yourself toward your goals.

Finally, you're going to learn a six-step system for making yourself comfortable with discomfort and even using it to springboard yourself into the life you’ve always dreamed of having.

How does one become a great leader? What does it mean to be a great leader? Not everyone agrees on the same leadership strategies, but most people can recognize good leadership when they see it. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” In essence, a leader is good at seeing the potential in people and pulling out the best in them. There’s not one cookie cutter idea of leadership, and people with different personalities can be exceptional leaders.

What is your goal for leadership? Are you a CEO of a company trying to increase production? Or are you a leader of a movement hoping to inspire people to follow you in changing the world?

Adults can take steps to ensure that their children develop growth mindsets by praising efforts not results. By focusing on the process rather than the outcome, adults can help kids understand that their efforts, hard work, and dedication can lead to change, learning, and growth both now and in the future.

Productive Not Busy Podcast - The Struggle Can Be the Reward

The Struggle Can Be the Reward

The average person avoids challenge like he’s avoiding the plague. Struggling isn’t enjoyable, so it’s natural to avoid it as much as possible. There’s an issue with this strategy: There’s a lot to be gained from struggling. There are many aspects to humans that are anti-fragile, meaning that stress makes them stronger. For example: Exercise is a stressor that delivers positive benefits. Being hot or cold, within reason, is good for your health. Fasting is beneficial. Struggling is similar in that it makes you better than you were before the struggle. Consider these benefits of struggling: 1.You learn a lot about yourself when you struggle. You don’t learn a lot about yourself while you’re watching a movie for the fifth time from your couch. When life is easy, you have a natural tendency to coast. Any struggle is a test of your will, ingenuity, and perseverance. 2.It’s a chance to learn how to use failure. Struggles often end in “failure.” Failure is a powerful tool when used properly. If you never struggle, you never get to 1 practice using failure to your advantage. The most successful people fail a lot. They also know how to use failure to come back better and stronger. You also have the opportunity to learn that failure isn’t as traumatic as you thought. 3.You can learn to persevere. The average person won’t struggle very hard, or for very long, before giving up. Any challenging time can be used to increase your perseverance. Success is practically guaranteed if you never give up on your goals. 4. Discipline is required. To overcome a challenge, discipline is required. It’s easy to procrastinate when you have to do challenging things. Discipline is needed to do the hard thing. 5.You become mentally stronger. Struggling can make you stronger psychologically. People that have had an easy life tend to be mentally soft. Only those that have faced struggles have had the chance to build mental toughness. Think about someone you know that’s had an easy life. How tough are they? 6.Your self-confidence increases. Effectively dealing with struggles makes you feel like you can take on the world. You feel confident and powerful. You gain self-confidence by dealing with adversity.

Productive Not Busy Podcast - What to do When Challenges Occur: 2 types of stress!
play

02/28/22 • 23 min

ife seems to become more stressful with each passing year. The impact of stress can pose serious challenges to your health and happiness. Much of our stress is the result of habits that have a negative impact on our lives. We create our own stress and become less capable of dealing with it effectively.

Habits save time and are similar to the autopilot feature found in commercial aircrafts. By relying on our habits, we free up our mind for other tasks.

While it’s easy to see how diet and exercise habits can influence our waistline, it’s a little more challenging to accept the idea that our habits can either create stress and misery, or promote relaxation and harmony.

But habits can do exactly that.
