When was the last time you listened to one of your podcast interviews? That's right, when have you put a critical ear to one of the visibility opportunities you spent time and energy earning? In The Podwize Group, we call this auditing your podcast interviews and we believe it's one of the most important things you can do to impact your interview conversions.
Whether you hate the sound of your voice, don't 'have the time' to do it, or genuinely never thought about it...this episode is for you.
Today, I cover why you should be listening to your interviews once they go live, which parts are most important in attracting audiences back to you, and specifics about how to improve if your interviews aren't knocking it out of the park.
Topics covered include:
- Why you should learn to love, or at least appreciate, your voice - and how I did the same
- Sound quality is about more than just the mic that you use - how unconscious things you say can undermine your authority
- Ideas for how you can plant seeds through the stories you tell to underline your expertise
- What happens at the end of the interview? What is the call-to-action experience for the audience?
- Support that is available within The Podwize Co-Op

66. How do Spotify and Joe Rogan affect your business?
Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you know that the big talk in the podcasting world is about the Spotify / Joe Rogan controversy. Musicians and some podcasters are removing their content from the platform because of misinformation and racially inflammatory language on his hugely successful podcast. And the debate is now filtering down to independent podcasters and guests.
With that in mind, this is less of our usual "How to..." episode and more of a "How do..." episode - as in, how do we choose guesting opportunities (and guests) that align with our values? And if we disagree, how do we do this in a respectful way that allows for a variety of opinions but isn't harmful to audiences?
Walking through these matters with me is Esther Littlefield, a marketing strategist & business coach, and the host of the award-winning Christian Woman Leadership Podcast and Christian Woman Business Podcast. Esther is passionate about helping clients cut through the confusion and find clarity, so I thought she'd be the perfect person to join me on a deep dive through all of these issues!
Topics covered include:
- Esther's work as a marketing strategist and business coach, and how podcasting has become a big part of her life and business
- Some background about the Joe Rogan controversy, and our feelings about his content and Spotify as a platform
- Esther's experiences of different perspectives and opinions on her faith-based podcasts - are disagreements and differences of opinion a bad thing?
- As guests - how to ensure that the opportunity is aligned with your goals and that you have a connection with the host
- For podcast hosts - would you censor if you 100% did not agree with a guest? When does censorship become Producing?

68. How to Pitch a Podcast Quickly (Do it Messy!)
Anyone who has followed the development of my business might think that the idea of a podcast pitching specialist telling you to "do it messy" goes against the grain. But the whole point of this concept is for you to get some pitches out of the door, get you started, and give you some quick wins.
I'm also running a '5-in-5' Pitching Challenge (launching on Monday, March 21st, 2022) to give you motivation and support and jump-start your pitching game.
It might seem like this doesn't go with what we do in the Podwize Co-Op. But trying to send out the perfect pitch can stop you from taking action at all. And the parts of a 'messy' pitch are similar to those of a more finessed podcast pitch. The point is to inject energy into your pitching workflow.
You can pretty-up your website, opt-ins, and promotional offers later. But the important part of visibility is that you have something to say which is of value to an audience. Don't let anything stop you from getting your message out there!
Topics covered include:
- Details of the '5-in-5' Pitching Challenge that launches on Monday, March 21st, 2022
- How the idea of 'Pitching Messy' came about
- What is the minimum it takes to get a targeted pitch out of the door?
- The different parts of this method, including clarifying what you want to achieve, identifying your ideal listener, and crafting a one-topic pitch
- How 'Pitching Messy' can help motivate you to keep going for the long haul
