The Life Skills Your Kids Need Before Launch with Amy Carney
No Guilt Mom | Overcoming Mom Guilt, Parenting Tips, & Self Care for Moms
06/03/21 • 36 min
As parents, we can get so caught up in school/grades, sports, and so on, that we forget to teach our kids the basics. The life skills they need before launching into the world!
In this episode, we talk with Amy Carney, author of Parent on Purpose and 100 Questions for Mom Journal. She creates content and products to help parents raise their children with more joy and purpose. She has 19-year-old triplet sons (launched to 3 different colleges/states), an 18-year-old daughter is a senior (Yep- had 4 kids in 18 months), and adopted their youngest out of the foster care system in 2016. In addition to that, she’s fostering another 9-year-old son now to adopt this summer!
Amy tells us all about her "A-ha" moment when it became very apparent that their family needed to stop, rewind, and focus on life skills more with their kids and how that involved a cross-country trek in an RV! We discuss what life skills are the most important for kids to learn before they leave the house (and cursive is not on that list), as well as what are some tips on how parents can be more intentional every day in their parenting.

5 Steps to Being a More Patient Parent
No Guilt Mom | Overcoming Mom Guilt, Parenting Tips, & Self Care for Moms
04/12/22 • 37 min
Has this happened to you? You walk into the living room and see your kid’s shoes thrown on the couch. You calmly ask your kid to take their shoes off the couch and put them away. You come back later, and there is your kid, and there are the shoes. Still on the couch. So you ask again, and your kid tells you that they will do it in a minute. Then you come into the room again, and nothing has happened. Neither the shoes nor your kid has moved. You absolutely lose it! You yell at your kid, they yell back at you or start crying, and then you end up putting the shoes away yourself.
If this sounds familiar to you, then you will love this episode. It was made just for you! We will share practical ways you can keep your cool as well as strategies you can use in the moment and after it, using our simple 5 step process: P.E.A.C.E.
