On today's episode I was lucky enough to it down with one of the worlds leading sports scientists, elite level coach, author, speaker and former monk, Shayamal Vallabhjee.
This conversation was deep, insightful, and actionable.
In my opinion Shayamal has a special talent of measuring the intangible aspects of performance instead of hoping they show up when needed. He has systems to track them, make them repeatable and use them for growth.
We started off discussing spirituality and specifically some passages from the Bhagavad Gita and how it can help us all live life a little more free and less attached to the outcome.
From there we went all over elite performance, mindset, psychology, and optimization of our lives.
I know you will love this episode and learn some invaluable insights from the world class coach and human; Shayamal Vallabhjee.

Samurai Success: Creating A Sense of Destiny with David Olcott
Get Uncomfortable
03/27/24 • 66 min
Hello my Get Uncomfortable compadre!
If you're new to the show, welcome!
If you do find value in the show, learn something, get inspired, or laugh I ask that you bring me ONE new friend to listen to the show this week. It means the world that you're willing to spread the message of Get Uncomfortable and join in this battle against mediocrity.
Get your notes app ready for this one.
Today I had the honor of speaking with David Olcott, founder of Samurai Success, author of Swords of Illumination, he is master certified in NLP, a business & personal coach, former trainer for Anthony Robbins, and much more.
We had a fantastic conversation about his book, the technologies his company uses to help their clients achieve results in business and life like never before, manifesting your dreams, defining your values, creating a sense of destiny, and the importance of love & congruency.
When I read Swords of Illumination I knew right away how powerful his book was. It is set in the Edo period of Japan and tracks the journey of young Yoshi on his path to becoming a great Samurai.
It speaks directly to the human condition of finding purpose, living up to and defining your values, doing the right actions to uphold your values, and ultimately living life as the person you know you can truly be.
Please be sure to check out Samurai Success and the services they offer and David's book at the links below:

009: Greg Everett | What Being Tough REALLY Means, Using Discomfort As Fuel For Growth & Becoming Self Reliant
Get Uncomfortable
04/21/21 • 53 min
Today's episode is one I am so happy to share with you all. I have followed him for years and this was one of the most value packed conversations I've had.
Our guest today is Greg Everett (@Catalyst Athletics), who is a world renowned olympic weightlifting coach, elite competitor in the tactical games, author, was a nationally ranked weightlifting competitor himself, and all around bad ass.
He just released his new book, Tough: Building True Mental, Physical, & Emotional Toughness For Success & Fulfillment
Toughness consists of 4 interdependent components:
1. Character
2.Capability
3.Capacity
4. Commitment
We dive into each of these and how they apply directly to your life and how to develop these traits.
We were able to discuss some of his past experiences and current habits along with the practices and tactics of people like Marcus Aurelius (Roman Emperor) & Viktor Fankl (A Man's Search for Meaning) so we can go through adversity and not be psychologically wrecked but come back EVEN better after it.
I would highly recommend grabbing his new book, it's a decision that you will not regret.

Will You Choose Victimhood or Victory?!
Get Uncomfortable
10/10/23 • 16 min
I want to address the pervasive mindset of victimhood and what we can do about it.
Victim consciousness is sold as an idea the should be adopted and spread through culture. It breeds hopelessness and despair and nothing more.
Instead of feeling loss of control, no power over your life, and lack of creativity we can recognize that our actions, day in and day out, are the inputs that will lead to the outcomes we will have.
Your current standings are a direct result of your actions over the last 30, 60, or 90 days (maybe even longer) and we have the power to control what actions we take on a daily basis.
If we want to improve our situation, luckily we have the opportunity to do that by changing our daily actions. We have the power to improve.
We are not victims of external circumstances, we are the masters of our own fate. What a powerful place to come from each day.
Until next time, go get uncomfortable.

002: Grit | The Difference Between Success or Failure & How to Cultivate It In Your Life
Get Uncomfortable
03/10/21 • 55 min
Grit: Perseverance and passion for especially difficult long term goals.
In our opinion it's the deciding factor when it comes to being successful or failing in the long term. This is one of our absolute favorite topics and we were able to dive deep on research, podcasts, and books to bring you the research backed evidence about grit and how to get more of it.
As fathers this trait is one we want to be able to instill into our children. In order for us to do this we have to explore and strengthen this within ourselves. By challenging ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally we realized we need to put this in an episode to encourage you to get more grit in your life.
We hope you enjoy this episode and start to look for ways to get more grit in your life!

032: Zach Brooks | Losing 140lbs., How It Changed His Role As A Father and Husband & Making Health A Lifestyle
Get Uncomfortable
10/15/21 • 94 min
If you like this episode share it with someone else! You have no idea how much I appreciate that and how much it helps us get the word out! Thank you for listening!
Zach & I have been friends for almost 20 years now and he is a salt of the earth guy. He will drop anything to help a friend and one of the funniest people I have ever met (which you'll hear in this episode).
He came to me needing help with weight loss and improving his health. He was tired all the time, sick with digestive issues & more.
He ended up changing not only his, but his entire family's lifestyle and overall health by implementing sound & sustainable behaviors to make it easy to consistently do.
I hope Zach's journey and experience is one that you can draw inspiration from and learn how to change your life for the better as well.

For the best quality supplements I have ever found head to our online dispensary at Thorne to grab vitamin D, vitamin C, Protein powder, multivitamin or any other supplement you need & help support the show!
Today's episode covers a little bit about reflection and truly planning for the future. I found a very useful tool to help me dive deep into my truest goals and the reasons I want them.
It's from Dr. Jordan Peterson and his colleagues and you can learn more about the programs he offers here. I would highly recommend looking into these to better understand yourself and plan for the future.
We also dive into the way jiu-jitsu, fishing, archery & a myriad of other activities can actually be turned into a meditative practice vs. just being seated and focusing on your breath solely.
Finally we closed out the episode talking about a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience where he interviewed Dr. Peter McCullough about the world's response to covid and where we've gone wrong.
Enjoy the show!

075: Breathing Wrong Is Killing You #2 | Inverted Breathing Pattern, Mechanics of Proper Breathing, Feedback to Correct Your Breath
Get Uncomfortable
10/06/22 • 17 min
What's up my Get Uncomfortable compadre!
If you haven't yet, head to the review section of this podcast and leave us a rating & review if you find value in the show OR share the show with someone you know would enjoy it.
Today is the second episode in a series I think is extremely needed in society. It will be about breath; the physical action, the psychological effect & problems that arise with improper breathing mechanics, posture effects, and more.
I realized severe migraines I was having were related directly to improper breathing patterns and I hope this series helps you or someone in your life find relief from chronic anxiety or a multitude of physical ailments.
The book I mentioned is The Body Keeps the Score and the author is Bessel van der Kolk, MD.
I had what Paul Chek calls an inverted breathing pattern and its extremely detrimental to your health over the long run. Here is an article and video Paul put out to help correct an inverted breathing pattern and I cover these feedback methods in today's episode.
Be sure to subscribe and stay tuned for the rest of this holisitc healing series!
