Salary Games : What's your last salary?
BasTalk - everyday at work!
03/05/23 • 43 min
Last salary? Well, let's just say my salary was like a Bollywood movie - a lot of drama, not much substance, and definitely not worth the price of admission! Recruiters asking for my last salary? Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was a job interview, not a Bollywood film where my financial history is the main plot twist!
The question of whether or not recruiters should ask for a candidate's last salary is a contentious one. Now, I know what you're thinking - what does Bollywood have to do with salary negotiations? Well, just like a Bollywood film, salary negotiations can be full of drama, suspense, and unexpected plot twists. And sometimes, the plot can get slightly ridiculous, just like in a Bollywood movie.
So, in this episode, I'll dive deep into the challenges and absurdities of recruiters asking for your previous salary details. We'll explore how this practice can perpetuate pay disparities and discrimination and share some hilarious stories of wrong salary negotiations.
So, grab your coffee, old monk or Bordeaux, and get ready to join the conversation as I tackle this tricky topic head-on. It's time to take a stand against the forces holding us back and demand the compensation we deserve. Let's do this, BasTalkers!

Be Unfuckwithable
BasTalk - everyday at work!
10/13/22 • 10 min
Many speak about being this picture-perfect image of a leader, full of poise, calm and collected, yet vulnerable, sensitive, and thoughtful, all critical traits of a
successful leader, aren't they? Then you paddle, waddle, flip-flap, slip and trip, walk, talk, think, and plan about the next survival plan. The optics are terrible.
Hours turn to days, days to quarters, huffing, puffing, pulling, and pushing through a difficult situation, and someone you can't stand asks how you are. You think I'm like a duck, calm on top and furiously paddling below, but choose to offer a polite smile and nod without uttering a word.
Your gut churns. But it's not over. You're in for a surprise.
Work pressure is real, and it does not make for any excellent optics!
The Myth about 30% pay hike
BasTalk - everyday at work!
11/02/22 • 17 min
How much raise do you expect?
The usual.
The usual?
Yes, 30%.
Errm, but who said it was usual?
--
That was an excerpt from an honest conversation about pay hikes. In this episode, I dive deep into the complex world of pay raises and employee expectations.
As always, expect to hear a straightforward free-flowing narrative that explores all three proverbial sides of the story.
I will walk you through some common perceptions, notions, and perceived realities to help you decide your next pay hike movement.

Manager Feedback Part 1
BasTalk - everyday at work!
11/24/22 • 17 min
Being a people manager, you need to motivate the team to deliver the best performance, isn't it? Yet, despite best efforts, there are times when the team misses
the goal. So you have a tough love conversation, a hard look at performance, and expect them to turn around. But instead, you get a rude shock from the HRBP,
who walks up to you and has a tough-love conversation; the team does not trust you to lead them, says the iconic 360-degree anonymous feedback
report. You realize that the HRBP has to be sure you are not the "incompetent" nincompoop leading many talented people in a high-performance organization.
So you can't blame them, either. What do you do?
Join me in this tricky conversation where I share insights on 3 scenarios :
- Addressing a team that does not take critical feedback well.
- Addressing an individual who is likely to broadcast every piece of information you share as feedback to the rest of the organization playing the victim card.
- How does it affect your perception as a people manager within the department or company?
Please share this slow-burn no, frill, simple straight talk who may need to hear this content.
Let's dive in.

3 ways to tackle failures
BasTalk - everyday at work!
09/08/22 • 16 min
How did it feel when you won that MVP award? I'm sure it must've felt great. And how did it feel when you were left out for the promotion over your
fiercest rival? Miserable, I guess. How did it feel when you got your dream job, and what happened when you were laid off?
For many, the feeling of loss is a far stronger emotion than the thrill of a victory, because no one taught you how to cope with a loss.
So who taught you how to lose? Was it your teacher, your parents, friends, or siblings?
Chances are the answer for most people is no one.
We live in a world where the emotional distance between winning and losing is staggering. Yet, all management gurus advise not to be too affected by
either success or failure. The question is, how? How do we not get affected by a failure or a loss when the world constantly reminds us
of what we missed and what others gained?
Tune in to this episode of BasTalk, where I share a coping mechanism or framework to deal with failures, defeats, or losses.

Twitter Identity Crisis
BasTalk - everyday at work!
11/05/22 • 16 min
Unlike the Bourne Identity, Twitter may never get to know what it really is, or was?
If a loss making company lays off 50% of it's staff, and restructures its infrastructure - what's wrong you'd think?
The question to answer is:
- how did we get to this point in the first place? Poor governance of some, can't become the bane of thousands!
- what happens to those "productive"employees who are mentally broken?
- what happens to fake profiles?
- what happens to privacy?
- how will $8 change/address any thing?
Tune in to this fascinating episode of BasTalk.
