You'll be shocked ... your next speaker at UpLift Live is me, John Espirian, the relentlessly helpful® LinkedIn nerd.
TRANSCRIPT
This is a solo episode of the UpLift Live podcast and that means that your next speaker at the LinkedIn-focused conference in Birmingham next March is ... me. I'm John Espirian. Welcome aboard.
Yes, so, it's me – I'm one of the speakers. No great surprise, I assume, as the conference was originally my idea. Still, just in case you thought I was just going to be doing only admin behind the scenes, I'm not: I will be talking about some advanced tips for LinkedIn.
I can't really share too much about what we're going to do, firstly because I don't want to spoil the surprise and secondly, the goal posts move so much that it might not be relevant by the time March comes along, which is the same as I noted with the other speakers that I've interviewed.
Anyway, I have got something fun in mind and that won't be the only fun thing on the day. I think LinkedIn has the potential to be quite stuffy and boring for a lot of people, and that's the exact opposite of what I want for our conference, so as well as just being a welcoming place to do lots of nice networking, we're going to try and make a real day to remember here, and I hope all of you enjoy it.
The first thing I thought about when coming up with the idea for a conference was an event specifically for LinkedIn specialists. The remit is definitely a bit broader than that, though. We are appealing to anyone who already knows how the platform works and just wants to push themselves to a new level.
So, for example, experienced social media managers who use LinkedIn for their clients might be the perfect fit here: people like that don't need to be told about creating a profile photo or updating their banner or really basic stuff like that. They want to get to the real juicy details of some advanced tips for using the platform, and that's what we're going to do in Birmingham.
Similarly, there might be some businesses out there who have a person inside the organisation who acts as their internal "LinkedIn expert", as it were. And those businesses might want to sponsor that person to come and soak up all of the goodies and then go back and instruct all of their employees.
Essentially, anyone who already understands the real value proposition of a business networking platform like LinkedIn would be a good fit to come to the conference and learn from all of the best experts on various advanced topics.
The bigger picture for me here is that if we can produce a business model that works in the UK, perhaps we can export it to other places. I know I've got lots of friends in the USA who I'd love to meet, and I haven't been there for 20 years so it would be great to have an excuse to go for both business and pleasure.
As I record this, tickets have been on sale for a couple of weeks but we've already sold a good number of them, and lots of people are really excited about coming to visit Birmingham and see the speakers and the other attendees.
I've got a few lovely voice notes from some of our Espresso+ members who are coming along to the conference.
In order, you're going to hear the voices now of Ann Davies followed by Lois Cliff and then Marjolijn Cohen.
I'm so excited about attending UpLift Live, the first ever LinkedIn-focused conference in the UK on 21 March 2024. There's going to be so many internationally renowned speakers. I really can't wait. Hope to see you there.
John Espirian, you legend. You have put together something totally awesome for LinkedIn that the UK has never seen before. What a lineup. It's incredible. You're awesome. And the team is awesome. UpLift Live in Birmingham next March for the win. To infinity and beyond.
I'm thrilled to attend the UpLift Live conference on the 21 March 2024 in Birmingham, and the speaker list is endless. It's such a high level, and also the attendee list. Well, I'm really looking forward meeting everybody and getting a deep dive into all the topics. Cheerio, John. Well done.
Lovely stuff and bonus points to Marjolijn because she's flying in from The Netherlands to be in the audience for this conference.
Now, I'm not sure whether a podcast should be for public service announcements, really, but we're currently sorting out things such as hotel discounts and a pre-event get-together the night before the main event, so that people can break the ice before the big day. Details of all of that will go out to ticket-buyers very soon.
If you haven't already got a ticket, now is the time, as we will be increasing the price pretty soon. You can hop aboard at uplift-live.com and that will get you an in-person ticket to see the apex operators of LinkedIn onstage on Thursday 21 March 2024 ...

Speaker announcement: Nigel Cliffe
Our next speaker announcement takes us to Halifax in the north of England. Meet Nigel Cliffe, who is joining us to speak onstage in Birmingham at UpLift Live on the topic of Sales Navigator and advanced LinkedIn search.
TRANSCRIPT
Boy, I didn't know how to get this value out of understanding search to a level beyond what the filters on linkedin.com provide, or even to that extent, what the filters on Sales Navigator provide.
So, when we look a bit deeper, there's a lot to be found.
Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. This is John Espirian from the Mission Control team for UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference for LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts.
It's time for another speaker announcement, and this time we're talking with the man who is "Linkedincredible": it's Nigel Cliffe.
Nigel is based in Halifax in the north of England, and he's speaking at UpLift Live to share tips on Sales Navigator and advanced search on LinkedIn.
Let's hop aboard and get to the interview with Nigel.
Nigel Cliffe, welcome to the UpLift Live podcast.
You are going to be one of our speakers at our event in Birmingham next year.
Nigel, tell me, what do you know about LinkedIn? Thank you, John.
I'm delighted to be here.
What do I know about LinkedIn? I'm still learning.
I guess I would be the LinkedIn trainer and consultant mentor for the last 10 years plus.
I know a fair bit, I guess, but everybody has their own journey.
And there are many ways to cut and dice LinkedIn.
I guess what I say about myself is what I do I know works for the people and clients, businesses that I've served over that decade.
Simple as that.
Yeah, you really do.
Because I mean, I've taken your course over 6 weeks.
And it's fantastic.
So, I highly, highly recommend that.
So, anyone who wants to learn more about LinkedIn through a course-based structure, definitely go and check out Nigel's.
Is it the Incredible Academy? Incredible Accelerator.
Academy will do! Incredible Accelerator.
That's the one.
And yes, it's a fantastic course.
So, you're coming to speak to us at the UpLift Live conference in Birmingham next year, which is on 21 March.
It's a whole day event, we've got 7 apex operators of LinkedIn speaking together, and Nigel is one of them.
Nigel, tell us a little bit about what you're going to speak about without giving away too many of the goods.
No, thank you.
And thanks ever so much for inviting me.
I can't wait for that event, John.
It's sort of been in my mind for something, this has been missing our people's calendars, hasn't it, for a long time.
So, I'm so thrilled you're doing it.
What am I doing? I'm going to be talking about Sales Navigator, but probably more importantly, about the topic of search, both on and off LinkedIn.
I hope to be sharing some top tips that I've learned through Boolean architecture understanding over the last decade.
And often in my training programmes, as you witnessed, some of the most revealing content and information that people have enjoyed has been around that topic.
Boy, I didn't know how to get this value out of understanding search to a level beyond what the filters on linkedin.com provide, or even to that extent, what the filters on Sales Navigator provide.
So, when we look a bit deeper, there's a lot to be found.
I'm going to be sharing those tips with everybody.
Good man.
Well, this is the kind of stuff that you're not going to get at another marketing conference, because LinkedIn is often an afterthought at those things.
And you're just not going to dig into the technical detail.
So, even something like Boolean search, which will be might be an alien concept to some people, that's the kind of thing that we're going to dig into, so you can get under the hood of LinkedIn.
And there's no there's no better person than Nigel to do that with us.
So, really, really looking forward to that.
What are you looking forward to most about the event, Nigel? Well, first and foremost, I'm looking forward to learning from some top people who are coming on that platform.
I don't know who they are.
So, that's going to be really interesting.
And also to hopefully meet so many friends in the audience.
We've such a powerful community here on LinkedIn, haven't we, John, of people who we've kind of really get to, I mean, I've met you in person a couple of times, so that's been wonderful.
But you know, just the opportunity to meet people in person that I've built wonderful relationships with online over the last, however many years, it'...

Speaker announcement: Tiina Jarvet
Our next speaker announcement is an international headhunter and recruitment expert based in Belgium. Meet Tiina Jarvet, who is joining us to speak onstage in Birmingham at UpLift Live on the topic of how recruiters really use LinkedIn, along with some advanced LinkedIn search tips.
TRANSCRIPT
If you get your presence right, optimising your profile, then there are big chances that you will be found. That's how I work.
Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. This is John Espirian from the Mission Control team for UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference for LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts.
It's time for another speaker announcement, and this time we have yet another international speaker. Joining us all the way from Belgium is headhunter and recruitment superstar Tiina Jarvet. She's going to talk to us about how recruiters really use LinkedIn, and to give us some tips on how we can be found in search.
Let's hop aboard and get to the interview with Tiina!
Welcome, Tiina Jarvet, to the UpLift Live podcast.
Thank you so much for being here.
You are going to be one of our speakers, one of our international speakers at the UpLift Live conference in Birmingham next year.
Tiina, tell me, what do you know about LinkedIn? Well, John, thank you so much for inviting me to be a speaker on the conference.
I'm so excited about it.
And equally excited I am about LinkedIn and LinkedIn Recruiter.
I've worked with recruitment and with executive search, and I've been using LinkedIn my whole career.
So, I'm so excited to share what's going on behind the scenes.
What do recruiters do when they use LinkedIn, and how people can optimise their profiles.
Yeah, fantastic.
I mean, I've known you for ages now.
And you to me, just not like any other recruiter, you are a proper headhunter, you really know LinkedIn very, very well.
And it'll be great to get your take on things about how recruiters really use LinkedIn.
You have already very kindly done a private session for our Espresso+ community, which I very much appreciate.
This will be you on the stage giving all of the secrets about recruiting and searching.
So, really looking forward to that.
Can you give us any kind of insight about the kind of stuff that you're going to talk about in Birmingham? Well, there are so many myths about how recruiters and headhunters use LinkedIn and how people's profiles are found.
And I really want to tell what's actually going on, and how, what are the tips and what is important, because sometimes you get a lot of information from people who actually don't work with LinkedIn Recruiter.
It's just by guessing what companies could be looking for, but actually to show what is important, and which are the tools and which parts of your profile you should be focusing on.
Because there are some things that are really important to optimise your LinkedIn presence.
Nice one, and let me get this right, you are a Top Global Talent Acquisition Voice.
That's a bit of a mouthful on LinkedIn.
Is that correct? Yes.
So, it's really about being part of the conversation on LinkedIn, and helping people to understand what is actually going on, that LinkedIn, it's, really the place where people connect for job search, but also for other opportunities, career opportunities, and if you get your presence right, optimising your profile, then there are big chances that you will be found.
That's how I work.
I work with people who are not actively looking but who get opportunities in their inbox, based on their experience, and industry.
Fantastic.
And let me just confirm as well, Tiina, that although you speak 9 languages, you're going to be delivering in English in Birmingham.
And you're just super, super talented and I hope this conveys the gravity of this event that we're not just going to get any old speaker.
We're bringing in international speakers.
Tiina is coming all the way over from Belgium to speak to us in Birmingham next year.
So, if you want to grab a ticket, now is the best time, and go to uplift-live.com.
You can buy your ticket for the in person event in Birmingham, which is on Thursday 21 March 2024 Really looking forward to seeing you there.
Tiina is one of 7 speakers that we've got lined up.
They're all apex operators from around the world.
And I'm really looking forward to it.
I can't wait to meet Tiina in person.
We've been connected for years but we've never actually met.
So, this will be a fantastic chance to do some great networking with lovely people.
So, thank you for being part of it, Tiina, and I'll see you...
