Military veterans coming out of service often find themselves pigeonholed to a limited selection of careers, and medical sales is hardly one of them. However, companies are certainly missing out on some excellent qualities that these veterans can bring to the profession from their military background. Joining Samuel Gbadebo in this episode, retired US Army artillery officer, Kyle Siordia is a very good example of how well veterans actually perform in medical sales. Now holding the distinction of Key Account Manager at Invitae, Kyle shares how he got into the genetic testing niche and how some of the things he learned while in the military helped him excel in his profession and rise up the ranks in a relatively short time. This episode is also an eye-opener to the genetic testing space, which is quite a world of its own in medical sales. Like all other fields in medical sales, however, the biggest thing to remember in this space is putting patients first – a principle that Kyle can hardly overemphasize.

How many people know exactly what they want to do since the age of nine years old?

For Demetrius Peoples, that was a reality.

Inspired by Eddie Murphy’s Boomerang, Demetrius directed everything he did towards marketing after resonating with the character Marcus Gram.

From entry level sales rep to VP of Sales and operations, Demetrius explains how “strategic impatience” and not becoming comfortable in any position was what helped him propel his career.

In today’s episode, I talk with Demetrius about what it takes to masterfully navigate one’s career not only in medical sales, but across all industries.

His ability to network and take risks early in his career has been what has allowed him to level up at an exponential rate.

Demetrius’s hunger for success is an inspiration to many. By creating advocates, mentors and sponsors he has proven time and time again that tenacity is what makes an effective sales rep.

Whether you are trying to get a pharmaceutical, medical device, or different type of medical sales role, the power of your intention and how you build relationships are critical to your success.

Tune in to be inspired to find and develop a network to really advance your career, bet on yourself, take meaningful risks and ultimately create growth opportunities.

In a world of medical and health jargon, it can be difficult for patients to understand the kind of care they are getting. Sometimes, beyond the language, it is in the way health professionals communicate to the patient and their families as well as to each other. Today's guests, Antra Boyd and Karen DiMarco, both saw the need for private patient advocacy, helping patients learn to advocate for themselves. In this episode, they join Samuel Gbadebo to talk about the problems they saw and what needs to be addressed.
