The Man2Man Podcast

Hello and welcome to the podcast!

As part of Pride Month and our ongoing fight to raise awareness we are bringing both topics together in this episode! Joining myself is Joe Woodland, current Head of Welsh at Chepstow School. Myself and Joe have known each other for a while through playing cricket for Blackwood Town cricket club but have never talked as in depth as we do during this episode.

Joe is very open and honest about his journey so far, the reaction to him coming out as gay, and how he's in a very good place in life right now.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Joe's sexuality growing up in the valleys and how this affected his mental health
  • The reaction to him coming out to his friends and family and the importance of a good support network
  • The importance of role models growing up and being one for young people right now
  • Fighting the stigmas surrounding the LGBT community and how these stigmas cross over into the world of mental health

Listening through to our conversation before releasing it, I couldn't help but smile - Joe is a genuine and brilliant man who wants his experiences to help others who may be in the same position as he found himself at different points of his journey. He speaks with a refreshing honesty and you can't help but feel happy for him and where he finds himself in life right now.

Hello and welcome to episode 4!

It's great to have Tommo back on the podcast after his appearance in the first episode - this time, he'll be helping me answer the questions you've asked!

Just like in episode one, we talk very openly and honestly when answering your questions - we talk about our depression, it's impact on our families and what we think needs to be done moving forward where mental health is concerned.

In this episode we talk about:

  • When we first knew we had a mental illness and It's impact on home life
  • How work can be a contributor to poor mental health
  • The importance of continuing to raise awareness of mental health and mental illness across the board

Whether this content is to your taste or not, please pass the pod and share as much as possible to raise valuable awareness of mental health, helping as many people as possible.

Don't forget to rate and review wherever possible too - it'll help others find the podcast (and help with the algorithms)

Take us on your daily walk, grab a cuppa and relax or whatever you’re preferred set up, enjoy!!

Dana Chapman

Hello and welcome to the podcast!

This episode is all about nutrition and how much our diet can impact our mental health.

It was a real pleasure welcoming Dana Chapman, a nutritional therapist, onto the pod to chat about the affects food have on us and our mental health, something I've never really thought about about. Previously, whenever I've thought about diet and a balanced diet, I've immediately linked it to physical health and how it dovetails with exercise and fitness. Dana really opened my eyes about food and how important it is for a wholistic health, busting some big myths and misconceptions along the way!

In this episode we talk about:

  • How different foods impact us mentally
  • How stress can impact the digestive system and important neurotransmitters
  • How food and our diet plays a huge role in our mood - the impact it has on our neurotransmitters such as serotonin
  • Busting long standing myths about our diets and the idea of 'good' and 'bad' food
  • The Western diet vs the Mediterranean diet

When editing and re-listening to our conversation, I had so many wow moments and lightbulb moments, I'm absolutely sure you will too!!
