In episode 2 I’m speaking to James Rowberry, current first team manager at Newport County. Myself and James go way back to our youth days at Newport County Academy so was great to have the chance to catch up with him.
James is very open and honest about his career to date, what makes him tick and the importance of having a positive mindset.

- James' footballing journey from retiring as a player at 21 through to becoming Newport County manager at 36
- The importance of mindset and positivity
- Pressures and motivations
- How a strong support network is essential
- How his core values are so important to him and those around him

The Mates Episode
The Man2Man Podcast
02/21/22 • 70 min
First of all hello, and welcome to the podcast!
It’s finally here and, for this very first ever episode, I’m speaking to some good friends of mine who I’ve known for what seems like an eternity - Dai, Millet and Tommo.
As a friendship group along with our other mates I’d say we’re a pretty close group. We’ve either grown up together or met at college and have been friends ever since. We’ve been through a lot of life events together and have shared many, many laughs and good times.
Like many others though, we don’t really talk about issues that are affecting us and about our mental health. So, what better way to start than on this podcast!
In this episode we talk about:
- Why men may find it so hard to talk openly about mental health (even to friends)
- Dealing with mental illnesses (depression and anxiety)
- How work impacts on our mental health and how we try to maintain a good mental health
- Social media
- How bad physical health can impact you mentally
It’s unrefined, unpolished and raw but very open, honest and thought provoking. So sit back, relax and listen to episode one of The Man2Man Podcast - The Mates Episode

In this episode we define burnout, identify the signs and symptoms to look out for as well as how important it is to find those potential causes/triggers.
Don't worry, we won't leave you high and dry...we'll also show you some 'burnout first aid' strategies that can help you keep burnout at bay.

Men's Health
The Man2Man Podcast
09/23/24 • 19 min
Season 3: Episode 1
It's been a long time since we recorded an episode, but it's finally here.
The landscape around men's health isn't a pretty one - lower life expectancy than women, 1 in 5 men dying prematurely (before the age of 65), and increasing rates of mental illness and suicide.
In this episode we look at some of the statistics around men's health, potential barriers which impact this, and what we can do to make a positive change.
Warning - there are references in this episode to topics that people may find triggering including suicide

Joe Woodland
The Man2Man Podcast
06/28/22 • 49 min
Hello and welcome to the podcast!
As part of Pride Month and our ongoing fight to raise awareness we are bringing both topics together in this episode! Joining myself is Joe Woodland, current Head of Welsh at Chepstow School. Myself and Joe have known each other for a while through playing cricket for Blackwood Town cricket club but have never talked as in depth as we do during this episode.
Joe is very open and honest about his journey so far, the reaction to him coming out as gay, and how he's in a very good place in life right now.
In this episode we talk about:
- Joe's sexuality growing up in the valleys and how this affected his mental health
- The reaction to him coming out to his friends and family and the importance of a good support network
- The importance of role models growing up and being one for young people right now
- Fighting the stigmas surrounding the LGBT community and how these stigmas cross over into the world of mental health
Listening through to our conversation before releasing it, I couldn't help but smile - Joe is a genuine and brilliant man who wants his experiences to help others who may be in the same position as he found himself at different points of his journey. He speaks with a refreshing honesty and you can't help but feel happy for him and where he finds himself in life right now.

Dana Chapman
The Man2Man Podcast
07/20/22 • 59 min
Hello and welcome to the podcast!
This episode is all about nutrition and how much our diet can impact our mental health.
It was a real pleasure welcoming Dana Chapman, a nutritional therapist, onto the pod to chat about the affects food have on us and our mental health, something I've never really thought about about. Previously, whenever I've thought about diet and a balanced diet, I've immediately linked it to physical health and how it dovetails with exercise and fitness. Dana really opened my eyes about food and how important it is for a wholistic health, busting some big myths and misconceptions along the way!
In this episode we talk about:
- How different foods impact us mentally
- How stress can impact the digestive system and important neurotransmitters
- How food and our diet plays a huge role in our mood - the impact it has on our neurotransmitters such as serotonin
- Busting long standing myths about our diets and the idea of 'good' and 'bad' food
- The Western diet vs the Mediterranean diet
When editing and re-listening to our conversation, I had so many wow moments and lightbulb moments, I'm absolutely sure you will too!!
