Toronto's Samantha Martin, and Vancouver's Khari McClelland of the Sojourners! Samantha Martin traverses deep southern soul, roots/reggae and 50's rock n roll and is a fixture in the Toronto roots community, seen often performing at The Dakota Tavern. Khari McClelland was born in Detroit but calls Vancouver his home, was influenced by everything from motown to hip hop, and is a member of Pinball Sessions alum The Sojourners! THIS EPISODE: One of our most driving episodes, travelling from Edmonton with prolific songwriter Eamon McGrath to Hull, Quebec with the dark, post-apocalyptic three-piece Scattered Clouds. Eamon McGrath has written and recorded over 250 songs, has toured Canada, the UK and the US and backed great (and diverse) artists Julie Doiron and Daniel Johnston. He performs the title track of his newly released EP, Exile Part One, 'Exile.' Afterwards, slide into the experimental sounds of Scattered Clouds, a Hull three-piece, with their unique and captivating song 'Zoro.' B.A. Johnston is a Canadian treasure: a wild performer, a prolific songwriter, and a truly unique musician. His offbeat songs can be crass, but truly charming and loveable. Pokey LaFarge writes unique songs that truly fit in the modern age while calling back to the early days of American roots, a strong blend that can't be placed in any genre pigeonhole. We were lucky to have him and his incredibly talented band visit Pinball Studios in July of 2013 for a session, some pinball, and an interview. This episode features two songs from that session - 'What The Rain Will Bring' and 'St. Louis Crawl' - as well as Roo's interview with Pokey and his percussionist, Ryan Koenig. Hear what Pokey's pinball machine would look like, the bands he loves to listen to and play with today, and the challenges of being a songwriter in a world where everyone wants to give his music a label.
