Midlife Mommas: A Girlfriends Approach to Life After Menopause

Why is my exercise not working?
Cam and Amelia explore how exercise methods and routines that worked in our 20's and 30's don't work in midlife. We explore the need for strength training. We examine what we need 'on board' to know if we are prepared to exercise for the day. We look at the foundation of a midlife exercise plan and the reasons we do it!
We explore:
-Sample strength training workout
- Time commitment
- Home workouts
- Bodyweight exercises
-HIIT (high-intensity interval training)
-What to do when something isn't working (hormone changes?)
What are the Benefits?
-Increased bone density
-better blood sugar control
-toned body
-combat muscle loss that naturally happens with age
-gaining confidence!
Join us for an honest chat and Cam's expertise on this subject that we all wonder about in midlife.

Midlife Women: Community or Competition?

YOU are One in 400 Trillion!
We are so unique that competition does not exist.
-Cam
Join Cam and Amelia
in an honest look at how we see other women. Most of us have a 'default' position. Some of us are aware of why we see other women the way we do. Maybe you have always felt loved and appreciated by other women, or maybe you work in a very competitive field where everyone must compete for time, space and success.
We unpack many of the reasons for defaulting to a competitive viewpoint.
-Is it our own insecurities?
-What triggers us?
-When we are criticized, what do we need to examine in ourselves?
-Is our defensive stance due to a previous embarrassment or sense of shame?
-What do we do to pull down that wall of defensiveness?
Then we explore:
-How do you build a community?
-Who are you vulnerable with?
-How can you be in a community with women who do not share common belief systems or common goals?
-How does the way you form a community incorporate your boundaries?
Relationships all start with yourself. We encourage you to be intentional and selective, but most of all, vulnerable. Once you've defined your boundaries, you can invite people into your inner circle, your community, or simply commune with them as part of the larger community. It's all OK. You are worth it! undefined - Dr. Ellen, The Midlife Whisperer

Dr. Ellen, The Midlife Whisperer

Join us this week for an empowering and helpful talk with Dr. Ellen, The Midlife Whisperer. Dr. Ellen is a registered dietician, a Ph.D. psychologist, and a mindful/self-compassion coach. She has a new book: Rock Your Midlife: 7 Steps to Transform Yourself and Make Your Next Chapter Your Best Chapter.
We tackle the difficult subject of the 'psychology of food.' Dr. Ellen explains how psychology - the study of mind and behavior affects the body and how food impacts psychology. 'We are made of cells, and those cells are made of the food we eat.' - Dr. Ellen.
To help change behaviors about food, you need to understand what's driving the behavior. Food choices are rarely about the food itself.
What's the biggest challenge??
(We must) embrace who we are and to love ourselves exactly as we are. -Dr. Ellen
It's hard to change a body we hate, so we tend to medicate with food. This creates a vicious cycle involving shame and hiding. Who wants to do something that makes you feel like you're losing? This is what drives the multi-million dollar 'diet culture', which rarely imparts lasting change.
Join us as we teach you how to really change, how to tap into your caring and compassion hormone - oxytocin, which is more likely to help you create lasting change, rather than relying on your pleasure receptor - dopamine.
Dr. Ellen is a wealth of knowledge. Her energy is fantastic - you can hear the joy in her voice. Dr. Ellen has been helping women find joy and health while not feeling deprived, but by tapping into their true life force. We know you'll love her as much as we do.
