The Love Meditation
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
02/19/20 • 16 min
Our featured free meditation for this month will show you an effective way to touch that deeper place of life within that is necessary to discover the power of “That By Which All Can Be Accomplished.” It will guide you to experience your ability to feel the emotion of Love. You have felt love at certain times in your life, and it is the feeling you learned to feel during these times that are revived when you are touched by a beautiful love story, a romantic film that makes you cry, or touching family photos. The state one enters when feeling these emotions is ideal for creativity, play, healing, or peak performance.
One of the most powerful mind-tools, in addition to deep relaxation/meditation, is the ability to touch your capacity to love and to awaken that feeling.
Enjoy The Love Meditation, and if you would like to join us and discover how to use it to defeat the ravages of stress and harness its power for healing and peak performance, join Healing Times eNews (you will also get review of past issues and techniques you missed along with 2 gifts from Dr. Miller).

Coronavirus: How to Dispel Fear and Resist Viral Infection (Free Heart-to-Heart Talk, Guided Imagery, & More)
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation

This is a very troubling time for each of us as individuals, for our families, our nation and our world as a whole. Remember, you are not in this alone, we are in it together.
At times like this it is also well to remember Weiji, the Chinese word and character for “crisis,” which is said to be made up of two separate characters, Wei 危, meaning Danger, and Ji 机 meaning opportunity. Success comes when we see the danger, confront it, and find the opportunity that is always hidden within the crisis. For me, it is an opportunity to share with you some of the very powerful tools I have developed over the last 50 years of working on a very intimate level with people confronting all sorts of major life problems: from catastrophic loss to serious infection, from childhood trauma to metastatic cancer, and everything in between.
As the world shuts down to stop the spread of this infectious disease and people are more isolated, you have the opportunity to learn some very important skills; learn to dispel fear, build resilience, and strengthen your body’s ability to heal and fight off infection from the comfort (and privacy) of your own home.
Virtual Town Hall Meeting
In early March, as we were beginning to see the pandemic emerging , our community got together for our first Virtual Town Hall Meeting. Our purpose was twofold:
- To inform the community at-large about what is likely to happen in the near future coming down the pike and
- To offer some guidance about why we should begin to isolate ourselves to enhance our ability to protect ourselves and others from the virus.
My presentation was rerecorded and I want to offer it to you now. You can listen to the podcast (top of this page), or watch the video below (re-recorded and re-titled Calm COVID Fear, Anxiety, Stress: Strengthen Immune System)
If you’d like to watch the original virtual town hall meeting you may do so here.

Between Lives: A New Year’s Imagery on Letting Go

In our culture we would say that someone has “died”, but many sects of Buddhism would say that only the body dies, but that a deeper, more essential aspect of ourselves enters the “Bardo,” the state of existence intermediate between two lives on earth. In this state evaluate your spiritual progress during this pause in your movement towards Nirvana, a heavenly place of peace and happiness, the highest spiritual state attainable, the state of pure enlightenment and freedom from suffering and desire (according to teachers of Buddhism and Hinduism.
Death and the New Year
Curiously, this is exactly the kind of thing we have the opportunity to do, at a deep level, at this beginning of a new year. Where are you at this point in your life’s journey? How are you moving towards your goals of spiritual or personal development and living a life reflecting your true values and purpose? Like the residents of the Bardo, think of the past as dying to make space for the newborn year, and like them, you can choose to let it go and choose the juicy challenges you want to take on this next year.
In fact, every time one meditates there is a release of the past, at least from the highest levels, conscious thought, the acknowledgment of faith in the present and whatever higher power or guide may dwell there. In the end, when you open your eyes you are born again into the realm of endless possibility, along with the deeper truths (algorithms) you may have read into.
In Everything Is The Seed Of Its Apparent Opposite
Isn’t it interesting how the states of life and death come together, and how they can be used effectively on our journey? Instead of framing life and death as opposites, we have the option of choosing to adopt a perspective like that of the followers of the Tao.
Their symbol, the interlaced Yin (receptive) and Yang (creative) energies, represented by the opposite appearing black and white, are seen to merge into each other, to be complementary, not in opposition. In fact, the white dot in the middle of the black Yang and the black one in the middle of the white Yin symbolizes that in everything lies the seed of its apparent opposite.
Pablo Picasso held that “Every act of creation is also an act of destruction.” And in our meditations we allow each preceding breath to die so that the new breath can be born.
So, if we wish something new and beautiful to be born into our lives in this next year, it would be very wise to become aware of what you need to allow to die to make room for that which you wish to be born in your life. As we learn to do this in each meditation, and then in every moment, we end up being open and able to make wise choices that lead to maximum health, growth, and creativity. And, if the Buddhists turn out to be right about the Bardo, we will already be well-practiced in making the best decision about our next lifetime.
So, with your permission, I would like to share some experiences to help you develop a way to do that.
Enjoy listening to, “A New Year’s Imagery on Letting Go“.

Programs for Healing and Recovering from
Trauma, Crisis, and Preventing PTSD
You don’t have to be there at ground zero to be impacted and even profoundly traumatized by an event as horrific as the Newtown Massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Even President Obama cried.
Dealing effectively with such challenges requires you to:
Phase 1. Go through the appropriate grieving period with sufficient relaxation that you do not develop post-traumatic stress issues, yet remain sensitive and responsive to the naturally healing feelings of grief.
Phase 2. Discover what it is that you need to learn from what has happened.
Phase 3. Develop the focus, courage, and commitment to take the actions that you know are the right ones, no matter how difficult.
The Audio programs below have been prepared by Dr. Emmett Miller. You can learn more about Mind-Body Medicine and the use of Mind-Tools at his Informational Website.

Change Habits, Addictions, and Behaviors [Free Guided Imagery Meditation]
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
05/10/12 • 8 min
Unwanted habits, addictions, self-defeating patterns of behavior are something we all have to deal with – and we often fail to make the changes we want to make.
This guided imagery audio experience is an excerpt from Dr. Miller’s Lecture: How to Change Your Habits, Addictions, and Behaviors.
Guided Imagery and Meditation are effective tools that can give us the power to tune into our minds and bodies and gently convince them to behave in ways that support our lives.
Learn how to access the power of your emotions, quiet the intensity of your cravings, and use mental imagery to create new goals and motivations for your unconscious mind.
Just as a dog or monkey can be trained to behave in certain ways, your mind and body (in essence, the “animal” part of you) have been trained to behave. And just as a computer can be reprogrammed, you can reprogram your mind and body to overcome urges, impulses, and addictions. Use this meditation to support the changing of such maladaptive patterns as overeating, overspending, over drinking, smoking, and gambling – as well as more subtle ones as procrastination, impulsiveness, or failing to establish positive patterns of exercising or relating to others.

A Beacon of Love and Peace [Free Guided Imagery Meditation]
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
12/23/11 • 9 min
Enjoy this guided imagery journey within to the source of light, an experience and reaffirmation of Love, and an opportunity to kindle compassion and joy and radiate peace and spirit to the world.
Listen Now: Transcription Below:
Journey within
Come to your senses, and notice to what degree you are seeing, hearing, feeling and thinking about things in the external world.
As I count, relax and allow your senses to release any hold on the exterior, allow your awareness to come within.
Find a place in your heart and mind in which you feel stable, calm, peaceful, and loving. Use whatever spiritual, psychological, energetic, and physical tools or technique to help you accomplish this. Experience yourself being visited by those you love and have loved, and those who love you and have loved you. Be aware of what a gift love is. Feel it kindling warmth in your heart.
• Imagine as clearly and lovingly as you can, your connections to the rest of humanity, to the world of nature and the land, and to whatever spiritual forces and images of sacredness are meaningful to you. Feel those connections enhance your presence by enabling you to be part of a larger wholeness, one graced with compassion, love and an intelligent, wise awareness.
• Hold your sense of yourself within that enhanced presence and feel its energy go out to your immediate environment, connecting in loving ways with the specific world around you.
Imagine you are overflowing with this energy, that it radiates from you like a beautiful golden light, spreading out to all around you. Feel yourself respecting and honoring the light of those around you. And if you wish, imagine it spreads out from you and from your kindred spirits and loved ones, that it flows out to the community, and even planetwide, drawing together in peaceful collaboration, people who have been split apart by differences of race, politics, ethnicity, religion, geography.
As you feel and see them, hold them in the grace of a loving, peaceful spirit, and imagine they discover peaceful ways to communicate with each other. And if there’s a specific area of conflict you wish to direct this energy towards, visualize that conflict dissolving into peace and agape – true love.
Now, as you gradually return your senses and awareness to the world around you, imagine that your very being radiates light, like a lighthouse, a beacon of stability, peace, calm, forgiveness, love, and compassion. Imagine waves of light and love spreading out and joining with the waves of other, similar, lighthouses – other people working to express peace, compassion and love in their lives. And as these waves connect, they are weaving a web of light that is spreading all around, empowering all of us, everywhere.

A Warm Winters Guided Imagery Meditation on Gratitude
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
12/15/10 • 11 min
Guided Imagery offers us an opportunity to calm our minds and feel deep appreciation for the beautiful things in our lives. For many of us, the world moves along so quickly, and the endless stream of appointments, phone calls, emails, and other Things That Need To Be Done Next continually distracts us from the all important step of positive feedback. The nature of our world is such that many decisions need to be made by the unconscious levels of the mind.
Unless we create a clear, compelling image of the way we want to be and the life we want to create, that part of us may head in the wrong direction. And with so many negative messages (eg, economic woes, climate change, illness, pollution, politics), it is easy to lose our way and succumb to the toxicity of stress and depression.
Actually, there are many more positives within than negatives, and here is a way to make these known to your faithful unconscious mind – to really assume leadership in your life – by touching the positive experiences of the recent past and connecting them to the deepest level of your being. In this way you are setting your compass – and empowering the behaviors and experiences you want more of in your life.
So find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed for ten minutes and recharge!
An Answer to Cancer – How Guided Imagery and Meditation Can Assist in Cancer Treatment [Free Podcast]
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
10/28/10 • 16 min
What’s the first thing to do if you get a diagnosis of cancer? Grab a deep relaxation and guided imagery CD!
Really. It could save your life.
When people first receive the message from their physician that their body may be harboring a potentially fatal disease, they are usually dumbfounded, commonly frightened, and often emotionally traumatized. This is unfortunate, since such reactions of helplessness associated with the illness create an internal physiological and psychological state which may actually impair the body’s ability to defend itself against this invader.
Since guided imagery in the state of deep relaxation has been shown to assist the healing process in many illnesses, including cancer, it should be made available as soon as possible to anyone newly diagnosed with cancer – as well as those with other chronic illnesses. It’s the least expensive, fastest, and possibly the most important single thing you can do.
A patient’s physical comfort and perception of pain can often be markedly altered, as can their attitude, mood, willingness to undergo invasive procedures, or to participate actively in the treatment – even their ability to successfully survive the treatment. All these are profoundly influenced by the attitude and the mental self image he or she has, of the disease, of the treatment, and of those who are rendering care.
Certain ways of approaching the illness are far more likely to produce a successful outcome, cure and complete healing. Well-designed guided imagery and deep relaxation – what I call “Software for the Mind” – functions to enable the person to move through acceptance, to awaken the inner potential to heal and become whole, and to free the body of the stress that could otherwise worsen the illness. And the sooner an individual begins this process, the better.
I will describe some of the most important ways that these tools can be used as valuable adjuncts to treatment in a moment, but first lets look at the role of your mental imagery in preventing cancer.
Guided Imagery and The Prevention of Cancer
Of course the best use of guided imagery in confronting the challenges of cancer is to employ it at the stage of prevention Sometimes, for example, a woman with breast lump or unusual bleeding, or a man who notices an abnormal mole on his skin will avoid seeing a health professional because of fear they experience when they consider that this might be a cancer. Yet by avoiding that cognitive dissonance they fail to have the mass removed before it spreads, and while it is still curable. A different mental image can be developed, one which could tolerate the idea of having an unknown mass checked out, and save their lives.
Another example is represented by the person who needs to change their inner imagery is the person who engages in behaviors that can lead to the development of cancer – such assmoking or exposing him or herself to other toxic substances, or eating an unhealthy diet (fat, charred meat, low vegetable intake). Guided imagery techniques can help resolve the emotional states that underlie such self-destructive behaviors. A few counseling visits and/or the use of the appropriate CDs are often all that is needed. (For example, see Weight Loss/Management and Smoke No More)
The Power of Imagery and Meditation in the Clinical Setting
One of the physician’s first challenges is how to inform the person that they may have cancer. The mental image the doctor creates in the mind of the patient is very important.
Because of this natural reaction of fear, rather than face the emotions, the doctor will sometimes try to be matter-of-fact about it, saying something insensitive, like, “Your tests showed that you may possibly have a rapidly-growing cancer that could kill you within 6 to 12 months. I will take another biopsy today to confirm the diagnosis. Come back in a week and I will let you know what we find out.” Imagine how news delivered that way affects a patient! Yet it happens far more often than you’d think it would.
Now, compare how different the mental image and resultant inner experience are when, instead, the physician says, “We’ll have to repeat the tests we did last week. They are inconclusive. There’s a possibility that there are some atypical cells, and we want to run another test. The first one may be in error. I’m certain, whatever the result, that we’ll find a way to deal with it.”
Remarkably, I have heard dozens of stories fr...
Free Anti-Cancer Guided Imagery Experience, Empowering Your Immune System – From Dr. Miller
Meditations and Guided Imagery – Self Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, & Meditation
11/02/10 • 15 min
In honor of everyone who is confronting cancer in their lives, I have prepared this special free deep relaxation and guided imagery experience.
I had the honor of co-founding the second cancer self-help center in the world, and the first that began to train interns. It’s hard to believe these days, where EVERY self respecting hospital, medical center, and clinic has patient self-help groups, that in 1977 there were NONE.
In those days patients could not utter the word “cancer” without trembling in fear, and physicians and families would often hide from people the fact that they had cancer.
We discovered that patients who visualized their white cells as aggressive, even vicious, attacking agents, and the cancer cells as being weak and confused had much more favorable outcomes.
The imagery here is based on that which we used at the center, where i remained as medical director for 20 years.
