Being Spontaneous, Holiday Baking & the Power of the Heel
Marketing & Mayhem
10/17/24 • 52 min
We kick off today with a song ... and a puppy. Breton “Bret”, Raebecca’s boxer cohost is officially home in Charleston. All things pets for our intro this Thursday - begs the question though, should we start adding “things Tiny ate” to our social media? From a bootie (high heel), faux coral to a fascia blaster Jenny’s rescue pup has been on a feeding frenzy that rivals shark week. Better question - are we letting our dogs in our beds ... or?
How did your mom’s personal style influence yours? We unpack our parents habits - everything from makeup, the art of getting “done up”, and our daily athleisure attire. From a linemen to a vet tech with an art based business - one of us grew up with a mom who gets ready daily ... and this host doesn't. And the other grew up with a mom who doesn’t wear daily makeup ... and this host always wears makeup.
Ultimately this turns into a teaching moment when Raebecca is out of town with her two littles to pickup the puppy baby. With two restaurant options, and limited outfit choices - they headed to the upscale restaurant in hoodies and leggings and had the times of their lives. And what happens when you realize you wear the same shoe size as your daughter ... because it’s happening quickly and it’s both terrifying and incredible. And then, and then, there’s the Spanx heel ... which takes on a left hand turn into price point, branding and what happens if you alienate your more curious clients with one or the other.
Here’s one we want to hear back from y’all about - team closed doors vs open doors - what does it mean ?! Literally and figuratively - one of our hosts keeps all her doors open and lights on, and the other is the opposite in pursuit of peace. And straight into holiday baking - “I made it, had a breakdown, bon apetite ”. What IS the SECRET to trim gingerbread men? Come clean - we want to know how yours don’t turn to sumo. The stress and pressure of holiday baking - is it worth it? What do your traditions look like? Chex mix trash, to grandmas cookies, to popcorn wreaths and chocolate cake ... we’re going to ease you into the holidays whether you want us to or not ... and it’s not even on purpose.
👠We talk the new shoe, SNEEX - have you seen these?

Ovaries, Frontal Lobes & the Power of Your Notes App
Marketing & Mayhem
01/23/25 • 63 min
In the animal kingdom, when an animals main purpose has been fulfilled, that animal typically dies off.
A dark way to start an episode, but ultimately we got to thinking about why women live longer than men, even though one of their main purposes is to create offspring. Grandmothers play in maintaining family wisdom and legacy across generations - turns out there’s some science behind that and that’s where our conversation with Kirsten Hatcher from Raising Marriage starts. Don’t worry, this episode is full of laughs, we even tackle the whole one ovary per cycle conversation.
Today’s conversation started from a podcast a few weeks ago we talked about using our Notes app to fully form our feelings in our reactions. Navigating the stormy seas of relationships can be challenging, understanding, even preserving your own emotions while holding space for another person’s isn’t always easy. And so - we are back on the iceberg - the "anger iceberg". Drawing from Gottman's marriage counseling method, we share strategies to avoid emotional flooding and maintain rational communication. Through relatable personal anecdotes, learn how to pause and walk away, or channeling your emotions with a little chat gpt support can help refine your message and release resentment.
And of course, we’re having this conversation with a dear friend, so we trip, stumble, and fall into a few very personal conversations. But ultimately our guess is that each is very relatable. Tell you what - there’s nothing quite like personal therapy on a public forum. Repeat after us, “we listen and we don’t judge” ...
Things we discussed:
Book: Fast Like A Girl
Book: Men Are Like Waffles - Women Are Like Spaghetti
The Anger Iceberg
Publix Philly Cheesesteak Dip
Attachment Styles

Season 3 Finale: Transitions, Milestones & Our Year of Growth
Marketing & Mayhem
09/19/24 • 54 min
In an unusual twist - we end season 3 in reflection. From a convo on air about “ball soap” - better known as squatch soap. We jump into the “how it all started” - unscripted amateurs with no plan, but a world of drive. Determined not to let paralysis analysis stop us from putting the rubber to the road. This convo very much highlights our Type 2 and Type 8 (enneagram) personalities - you’re going to be laughing right from the start.
From cooking in a kitchen that’s on fire - to actually being fired - our paths crossed at the exact time our faith in a higher power was making us unwilling to miss an opportunity like this. What does Mac Hollins have to do with our email reply strategy? Division of responsibility - that’s what - our unique personality differences have both influenced one another, and created a unique space to really lean into our strengths and spirit.
What’s in a perfect house? What’s makes perfect timing? What about the perfect pet? Or even the perfect job? See where we are going here? The only thing stopping any of us from starting - is likely just a set of limiting beliefs. But in reality - the world (of entrepreneurship) really is your oyster. From Jenny’s 43rd birthday - to our upcoming 1 year podcast anniversary - to unusual pedicures - and wedding photos - we reflect on this year-long journey that has us standing knee-deep in gratitude.
Reflecting on past goals and expectations, we share wisdom we'd offer our younger selves, questioning societal milestones and contemplating unfulfilled dreams. We discuss the evolving meaning of success and fulfillment, encouraging the younger generation to pursue their passions. Our chat touches on everything from Costco must-haves to holiday traditions, wrapping up with a nod to our incredible listeners. Join us in celebrating our journey, our evolving friendship, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Cheers to one year and many more to come!

Salt, Camel Toes & the Balancing Act
Marketing & Mayhem
06/06/24 • 36 min
We hope you’re ready for pure MAYHEM this week ...
We jump right into morning routines - hydration - and our salt/ electrolyte obsession. Summer is here - school is ending - and we both share excitement and angst over balancing our multiple roles this summer. But we’re reminded that often times, Mondays become Fridays before you even know it - and we’re lucky to have some flexibility in our day to day ... and kiddos who enjoy one another’s company. Because that’s going to come in handy when we’re working poolside this season of life!
We don’t talk about marketing - but we do talk booty shorts, camel toes - and our favorite sports bras (Amazon). We also talk about one of Raebecca’s favorite social media accounts - and dig a little into their authenticity and what makes them so likeable (@littleherculette Peyton Bucher ). And - what is the real story behind booty shorts at the gym ... and we play a game of would you rather (that potentially will make your stomach flip just thinking about it).
And finally - we’re talking about love languages again. This time - Acts Of Service. Is there a direct correlation to being a first born daughter, and this specific love language? Whether we're bonding over a meal train or pondering the art of gift-giving, it's clear that small gestures can hold immense power and show a certain depth of love for someone. Kicking off the summer with smores breakfasts and a case of the sillies - this week is a fun one!

Italy, Dirty Dancing & Brand Guides
Marketing & Mayhem
06/13/24 • 38 min
We take a chance to recap Italy - and in perfect algorithm cadence ... it’s taken over not just Jenny’s feed but also Raebecca’s and we’re here for it! The food, the beautiful people - but bless, the driving was something else. Leave it to Jenny to google translate the motion sickness of her crew, overseas.
Would you believe it - we’re hitting the road! We manifested it early this year - and we’ve got a table - and a local Muay Thai fight - and we’re planning what to wear ... at the same time we’re talking about french fries for breakfast ... make it make sense. And in classic mayhem style - we unpack hash browns, Waffle House, a local brunch spot (shoutout to Big Bad Breakfast) and how extra we can make a simple breakfast side. Is smothered enough?
Summer is here - we’re talking schedules, the beauty of being unscheduled, the balance of sports and workbooks and how we “get it all done”. And we take the chance to talk about a recent we project we just finished. Brand guide, and all. We talk about the difference in “brand guides” and the Gritty Gal difference. As promised - it’s more than just a pretty package delivered to a client’s inbox - we talk about the how, and what we’ve done to see this client up for success. Even better, we will be there to help implement the strategy we set as a team. As Jenny often says, we truly care about where the rubber meets the road. And for a second, let us talk you you about the difference between love and marriage - when it comes to branding.
Would you believe us if we said - there’s now a reel - a dancing video ... just when you thought we weren’t going to do it ... we did. In the words of Taylor, “are you ready for it”?. From taking the weekend off, to a hype girl who actually tells you that you did a great job driving around with your gas tank on E...this is a great balance of Marketing & Mayhem, and after all, isn’t that the spirit you came for?

Twins, Crisis Management, & Standing in the Gap
Marketing & Mayhem
05/30/24 • 64 min
Unlock the secrets to a seamless synergy in business as we chat with Kelsey Klim and Kollin Chupa, the founders of K Squared Marketing.
These marketing powerhouses - who might ... just might ... dress in the same outfit OFTEN, take us in their journey from event planning and management to owning their own marketing firm. We jump into conversations that range from pumpkin patches to crisis management and find ... there really is something to be said for business partners who can complete one another’s sentences.
What REALLY matters when it comes to marketing - your brand message, your voice, your core values and your call to action. It’s a lot more than a pretty brand guide. And while we love those - we also know business leaders who didn’t do extensive research into their logo or their color scheme. Leaders who jumped right into “doing”. But there’s positive and negative to both.
Is there such a thing as a bad client and where do you draw the line? In a society where image, perception and instant gratification currently drive many business models - what would it take to create a sustainable business model? Where do you draw the line between brand recognition and the kind of marketing that grabs your attention? Is there ever a time to compromise? What if it calls on your own values and integrity and ... isn’t meeting them? And how much does self awareness play into how you choose clients?
From bad pictures to murders - you’ve considered a marketing team but have you considered one that can handle crisis management? Someone who protects your story, your integrity and your reputation while you’re busy building and living?

Quickies, Priorities, & Raccoon Shirts
Marketing & Mayhem
08/01/24 • 54 min
We kick it off - talking love languages and our favorite resident nocturnal animal. After a 17 hour drive home and a sunrise view of the Statue of Liberty, we are again ships in the night. A front porch t shirt drop - and today’s recording - are the few moments we stole before one of us was back to jet set. And in classic style - we’re taking you with us on this catch up session.
The act of showing someone you’re thinking of them - will forever be one of our favorite love languages. It’s not just a t shirt - it’s a gesture. And in typical mayhem fashion - we add some depth - debating the qualities of our favorite spirit animals.
And a theme - you know your girl loves a theme. And she headed out to NKOTB in a hot pink bodysuit and silver jellies, coloring the rest of us green with envy. Somewhere between thunderstorms and gas lights - we are still finding romance in the everyday.
And - what’s more romantic than a quickie? We end today’s episode with a conversation about prioritizing family and friends. From scheduling time - and protecting it - no diff than you would a doctors appointment or time with your stylist - how do you ensure you get time with your people? There’s always room for flexibility - and the impromptu quickie. It’s the balance of both for this duo.
Last week’s snail trail episode was the podcast version of the quickie - and y'all had lots to say about it. We questioned the chaos of it - but you came back and said it was one of your favorite episodes! Something about hearing you say “it felt like I was in the car with you guys” or “on the couch with you” or “at your girls dinner” will always mean so much. We welcome the feedback, and while we know we will continue to grow - we would be remiss if we didn’t snag the opportunity to celebrate your voices and thank you, for everything.

Birthdays, Amazon Prime Day & Puppies
Marketing & Mayhem
10/03/24 • 55 min
We love a woman who knows what she wants - especially for her birthday. No guessing games here - which host entered the chat in a brand new look - “soft autumn”. What is in a color analysis - and how fast does it take us to say “we don’t have to do everything she says”? From Juicy Couture throwbacks to the Tim Allen “The Santa Clause” red sweatsuit, we are talking our favorite things on Amazon prime right now, because you’ve got a week until prime days and we have a shopping problem. Let’s just be honest.
And in typical overshare fashion - since we’re both a little slutty for a pedi - when was the last time you got carried away with your shower pedi? It happens to the best of us. Last week we were sharing our favorite things from Costco but this week, we dig deep into our most most recent Amazon purchases that we just can’t live without. From denim crop tops, black heels (and the reminiscing of some of our favorite pairs), travel jewelry cases, Westin essential oils and a diffuser - to Moroccan rugs and glitter freckles. We’re getting real about our shopping habits and game changers.
We end with a convo about our furriest friends. You live for our bulldog cohost - and the adventures of Tiny’s rescue last fall ... which cohost is considering adding another bundle of ... mayhem ... to their home? After all - what’s one more responsibility? And in finale - a happiest birthday to Jenny - and a happy 1 year podcasting to Marketing & Mayhem ... what a difference a year makes.

Dips, Divorce & Vampire Facials
Marketing & Mayhem
02/06/25 • 57 min
Didn’t see this one coming. Remember that Philly cheesesteak dip we discussed? Guess who doesn’t love it ... Jenny. But you’ll never guess why. This one starts with some deep belly laughs - maybe because we’re in marketing but, who here has been personally victimized by unclear packaging? In this case, Jenny openly admits to melting cheese for her dogs, but not for herself. What in the mayhem ...
The “Miller vs Miller” emails are over. We’re divorced. And we’re in our feelings - about all the things. This one felt like an endurance race, tears and all. Of course - no one gets married and plans to get divorced. Let’s shed the stigma on this one - this is important - so we open the dialogue for an honest to goodness update on this new reality. Of course, as moms, we’re the example and we take those role so seriously (in work, in love, in life - and not everything is meant for forever).
Mel Robbin’s “Let Them” weaves its way back into our conversations. We’re shedding the weight of other people’s actions - AND we’re using Chat GPT to start our day with affirmations. Yes. Chat GPT - remember when we introduced you to it? We’re using it daily, borderline hourly. From ingredient lists, affirmations, stats, nonsense knowledge ...it’s everything. But it won’t remind you to heat up your cheese dip ...

Season 4 Finale: Journals, Joy & Holiday Boundaries with Life Coach, Jennifer Sisk
Marketing & Mayhem
12/12/24 • 63 min
We are starting to talk about the new year on the same day that we close out a full year of episodes. It’s our season finale - cheers to a full year of episodes. And - as a fun little treat because Christmas - we brought back a special guest as promised. Our resident life coach Jennifer Sisk join us for a really healthy conversation about the holidays, setting and resetting expectations for yourself and then also exploring your own boundaries, this holiday season and heading into the new year.
As we recount our adventures with holiday preparations, Jennifer sprinkles her signature humor and cheer, making this episode a thoughtful mix of merry and personal growth. The three of us are all having very different holiday experiences this year, in fact, one of us has even made the executive decision that putting the tree up conflicts with how many other things they have already committed to this season and it makes perfect sense to us, but it will be a really good experience for everyone else to hear her why.
After all, the December season is full of pressure and traditions and family and often times a lack of boundaries, where is the line between compromise and Christmas? We underscore the importance of adjusting holiday efforts to align with one's state of mind, ensuring the season is a source of joy and comfort rather than stress.
Family gatherings don’t have to be a battlefield for your peace of mind. We uncover practical strategies to maintain emotional resilience during challenging interactions, focusing on setting healthy boundaries and acknowledging others' perspectives without compromising your own well-being. With insights into overcoming mental barriers and fostering self-belief, the episode encourages you to harness the power of journaling and self-care, empowering you to end the year with confidence. Whether it's choosing a guiding word for the year or navigating emotional boundaries, we explore how intentional living can fuel personal growth and happiness.
