55. Leaning Into What You Know with Ashlie Sutton
06/11/24 • 35 min
On today’s episode, Ashlie Sutton is joining me. Ashlie grew up on an Idaho potato and wheat farm. She’s a wife, mom of four, and the creator of a company called The Haircut Box. Ashlie grew up with a dream of being a cosmetologist and after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, she got her beauty license and worked behind the chair doing hair for 14 years. Her company was dreamt up from looking at her different passions of teaching others to do hair, budgeting, and making memories with her kids. The Haircut Box was born and while it’s a physical product that she sells, it’s so much more than that. It’s focusing on saving money, learning a new skill, and making memories. The Haircut Box provides the tools to teach you how to give great haircuts to your family to save time and money.
Ashlie also created the Thank-a-Farmer campaign which raised money for different farms nominated to show appreciation for the hard work that goes into providing for so many others. She shares her history of growing up on a farm and the work ethic she gained from that upbringing.
Today’s episode covers how you can truly make money doing anything and the first step is sitting down and looking at what you’re passionate about. Ashlie’s story and experience is proof that putting effort into what you love can create more opportunities. Her advice of just going for it and not making mountains out of mole hills are words to live by!

54. Strategies and Investments for a Successful Event with Jess Crouch
On today’s episode, we have the founder and designer of Heritage Brand, Jess Crouch, on the show. Jess shares the emotional challenges of phasing out the original horse tack line, the growth and evolution of her business, and the importance of customer relationships. We also dive into everything that goes into a successful setup at NFR. Even if you aren’t planning to go to NFR specifically, the content in this episode applies to setting up ANY event; whether that’s a farmer’s market, the Houston Rodeo, or Pendleton Round-Up. No matter what event you’re going to, you have to put in the work ahead of time and establish a solid foundation to set yourself up for a successful event.
Jessica Crouch is the Founder and Lead Designer at Heritage Brand. Jess founded Heritage Brand in 2002 and has grown the company from a single-person operation in her garage to a team of artisans and creators in a state-of-the-art space in Tumalo, OR.
After creating the famous Heritage Brand Marilyn Bag in 2019, she has garnered attention for her edgy designs in the western fashion space. Each bag design that has followed Marilyn has garnered further notoriety. The Heritage Brand Lyrik Bag was featured on Yellowstone, carried by Lainey Wilson's character, Abby. Lainey continues to wear her Heritage Brand cuffs on stage routinely, further cementing Heritage Brand as a leader in the western fashion industry.

56. Trust, Passion, and Focusing on the End Result
On today’s episode, I’m in the hot seat as the guest! Sarah from our team came up with several questions she’s wanted to ask me including some fun rapid fire ones. I share my thoughts on being a leader and how trust plays into my managerial style, how and why I have trust in myself, what I’ve learned from failure, mentors I admire, why I’m passionate about our life and business, how I stay motivated, and more. This episode shows a little more behind-the-scenes of my philosophies and how I live and work in our western and agricultural way of life and industry.
