Gareth Davies - Taking smart risks by showing up, daring and being you
The Legendary Leaders Podcast
01/09/20 • 38 min
In our 11th podcast episode in the Legendary Leaders series, we meet Gareth Davies, Co-Founder of the Bravest Path, who works with organisations, team and individuals to support them to take more smart risks.
Through the Bravest Path, Gareth gives clients the tools to practice taking more and more smart risks. He explains how it’s about making decisions in line with your own personal core values, rather than what other people expect you to.
Gareth talks about unspoken expectations, often expectations that come with a workforce’s culture and the pressure that puts on you. Touching on failure and lack of control, Gareth takes us through how he took control of his life and called time on his police career. He explains that moving on from a role or career doesn’t mean failure, but growth and realisation that your values have changed and that working on your terms is your priority.
One thing Gareth suggests is to ask yourself ‘who am I doing this for?’ Think about the opinions of people in your life who really count, who know what you stand for, and let go of the views of anyone else. He reminds us of the impossibility of trying to please everyone. What matters is showing up as yourself, the best version of yourself, and the importance of courage, being daring and brave.
Gareth has recently been working on a young people’s program to deliver to students to help address the expectations and silent message of perfectionism.
If you enjoyed this episode, check out the video show notes and more here and follow me on Social Media:
In this episode you will learn:
- The importance of making decisions and choices based on your core values, not other’s expectations

Gareth is co-founder of the courage-building consultancy The Bravest Path, and specialises in uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure.
