Is it a problem or Solution Opportunity
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
02/16/21 • 46 min
Ep 105 - When did you decide something was a problem? Are your feelings around the issue swirling you into a deeper, and deeper chasm of undesirable inner-self talk? Are you so deep into the problem that seeing a solution would be like cutting through concrete with a butter knife?
Focusing on the problem is a precarious precipice to find yourself teetering upon. There is a light ahead, it is the light of personal choice and responsibility. After 105 episodes you are very familiar with the notion that, "your words don't describe your reality, they create it."
This episode will go deeper into that so you can firmly plant yourself in the creator role in your own life. There are not seats for the victim mindset on this train toward our best and highest self. You are on this journey with me - so let's make sure were on the same page. We are creators and moving forward that is the position we will uphold with determination, discipline, and resiliency. It's great to have you here.

Rethinking Happiness
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
04/27/21 • 44 min
Ep 113 - Is happiness an emotion, a mood, a state of mind? I have said, many times, that I think seeking happiness is a fool's errand because emotions are fleeting and constantly making it your goal to be happy would require you to always be in the emotion of happy - and the human experience doesn't open us up for happiness 100% of the time.
What if happiness has been a state of mind all along? What if one book, one sentence, could begin the journey of a 11,500 steps toward a more empowered way to understand, apply, and evaluate happiness in my life. What if today you and I journeyed down the road less traveled and forged our own path toward our own definition of happiness.
I love how my unconscious mind directs me to broaden my awareness, and today I will bring you along for the ride, as we unravel happiness as a way of being and not the emotional state it can often be and not be.
Is happiness an emotion? Is it a mood? Is it a state of mind? Perhaps it is the chameleon of emotions and it is all of them and none of them at the same time. Interest piqued? Perfect...just hit play.

Your self-worth is created internally
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
03/24/21 • 48 min
Ep 109 - Self esteem comes from external validation, whether it be from what you see in the mirror, the things you have accumulated, or from another person telling you how they feel about something you have done or accomplished for yourself or them.
Self-worth is valuing yourself through yourself. When you realize you have value and that you matter, to yourself above all others, then you are in control of your mind, your results, and your self-worth.
Are you seeking external validation when internal validation is what will actually lift you up into the empowered state we all seek in sobriety and addiction recovery?
You have worth. You matter. What do you value in yourself? What matters to you? Are you feeding that part of yourself each and everyday. Put the oxygen mask on yourself or you won't be able to help others.
You matter. You have value. I can externally remind you of this but I can not help you internalize it and believe it. That comes from your own self-work on yourself. You create and build your self-worth - I can instigate but you have to do the work yourself.
It is possible because you have already started doing it - now let's do it with focused intention of attention.

From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
03/04/21 • 39 min

My online course, Wise Mind Empowerment, is live and available to you. Hit me up on IG and let's talk about how to get you in and especially how this can guide you to the life you have always wanted.

Creativity as your gateway toward your empowered recovery
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
04/22/21 • 34 min
Ep 112 - Creativity is an inherent desire every human strives to fulfill within themselves. How we define creativity could use some clarification and I am here to guide you toward that outcome.
I reference the Netflix movie, "The Creative Brain," so for a more in-depth discussion on this topic I encourage you to head over there and check it out. It talks very openly on topics of creativity, open-mindedness, and rehabilitation of humans utilizing creative outlets.
If your sobriety has grown stale I highly recommend that you step into your natural creativity and create something for yourself - right now, today, right...NOW.

Your sobriety is priority one!
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
10/20/22 • 36 min
Ep #184 - Reverse engineering from the end-outcome you desire, all the way back to the very first step, will provide you confidence as you enter back into social life in your sobriety and recovery journey.
You are going to want to go to events in your life. That's a generally fact about life. Humans like to gather for special occasions, sports, and live music, etc. When humans gather there is a very good chance intoxicants will be there and available - whether for free or for sale.
The likelihood you will never attend an event again, for the rest of your life, is so unlikely, and I'd imagine as virtually impossible as impossible comes - and you know how I feel about definitives like impossible.
So what plan do you have in place to attend events? What is your 'well-formed outcome?' Being sober, comfy, and cozy in your bed at the end of the night I'd bet. What is your plan to get to that outcome? What measures do you have in place to pull you out of triggering moments at events you will attend?
Stepping into the fear of going places, where the possibility of intoxicants and intoxicated people is damn near a sure thing, will build your confidence toward going to future events. This confidence increases your capabilities to go to events and enjoy them to your fullest.
How are you going to do this?
Just hit play and let's dive in with our open minds, hearts, and energies bringing everyone into the fold - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now.
It is time. It has been time. To live is to shine. Step into the SUN.
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Curiosity, Interest, Passion, Purpose
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
04/07/21 • 43 min
Ep 111 - Do you feel the desire inside you to heed the call of your purpose. Having a clear view and embracing what sparks you up and seeking it out - that is your purpose calling you. It is the solid feeling that your journey is not bound by a destination, rather by the experiences that come from truly living in your seat of wise-minded empowerment.
My sobriety reintroduced me to the things I had been passionate about for decades but had released to the degradation of my addiction. Likewise, you are in the position to go back in time, to when curiosity and interest fed you new experiences that left an impact and gradually grew into passions.
Curiosities, Interests, Passions, and Purposes will come and go, will change and grow, will ebb and flow with your learnings, growth, and lifelong evolution. Passions are inwardly focused. Purposes are externally focused.
It is up to you to recognize the fork in your river. Take notice when life is offering you a huge opportunity to leap into a new way of being. Fire this off inside of you by discovering what lights up your curiosities and flames into interests. From your interests your passions will blossom. From your passions your purpose will be engulf your being.
When it is time to seek that which is seeking you the self discovery that you will undergo, if you choose to accept this journey, will empower you in ways you hadn't imagined. Very little of what I have accomplished today was seeded until after I stepped into sobriety. If you think you can or if you think you can't - you are right.

Why on earth would you ever want to go backwards?
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
04/01/21 • 31 min
Ep 110 - I am not looking forward to this moment, to this action, but I am looking forward to the aftermath, what I will receive or become after I do this or this is done to me.
This quote from the Yellowstone TV show sparked me to bring this topic to you around my principle of 'Be Decisive.'
You have a choice, every second of your life, to do one thing or do another. Going backwards and using again IS NOT the only choice. You are empowered. You know there are better ways to heal through your suffering. You are not oblivious to this idea, nor are you able to unring the bells that you have heard during this show.
Why on earth would you ever want to go backwards? You have all the choices in front of you when you step into sobriety and journey into addiction recovery. Going backwards...we already know the choices that are waiting for us back there - AND this quote doesn't just go hand in hand with our coping mechanisms around using and abusing. This topic is for you when you are thinking of a negative behavior that you know will bring you an undesirable outcome. Perhaps it's a conversation that goes sideways when you yell, perhaps its a sitting on the couch when you know you really want to be healthy and walking is good for you. The infinite hypotheticals, that are actually our very real life examples, are too numerous to keep writing here.
Going backwards is something to be mindful of every day of your life, sobriety or not, the only time you even need to look backwards is to learn the lesson that experience taught you, take it in, and then leave it in the past where it belongs.
Your future is being written every second of your life. You are the author. Write new things. Don't be like Hollywood and keep writing the same drivel with a different title and a new star attached.
You are better than that. It's time you show yourself this is a fact.

The meanings we make about our life as an addict
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
03/10/21 • 49 min
Ep 107 - Humans are meaning making machines so it is only natural that we would seek to make meaning out of why we chose the path of addiction over alternate paths that were also in front of us - whether we saw them or not, they were there.
In this episode we will discuss...
1. How we make meaning out of everything to give it a meaning, structure, and an order to the chaos that is the human experience.
2. Respecting other's model of the world (point of view)
3. Your map is not the territory. The words you use to describe a person, place, thing, or event is not what everyone else is or will experience.
We're gonna go down the rabbit hole. You are after all on episode 107, so by now I think you have happily taken the red pill. Let's go inside the matrix and make meaning out of everything we have gone through in our journey to get to this place where are in today.
This is gonna be a freaking blast!

Childhood into adulthood personality archetypes
From Sobriety To Recovery: An Addiction Recovery Podcast
11/02/22 • 66 min
Ep #186 -
The way you behave, your personality, your habits, all of these began to form in you at a young age. If you feel like you are acting in a way that no longer serves you, look no further than the way you behaved as a child for the root cause in the restlessness in your life now.
There is an eternal child in all of us. It seeks to be healed from the behaviors we took on in our youth to survive in an unknown and, more than likely, chaotic world.
Here are the archetypes we will discuss in this episode and how they are still playing out in your life today. What you do with this information will inform the rest of your life. No pressure or anything, LOL.
- ➢Codependent – enables other people's bad behaviors
- ➢Responsible one – brings order to a chaotic home
- ➢Adjuster – detaches emotionally and adjusts to any situation
- ➢Placater – tries to make others feel better
- ➢Acting out child – bad behavior distracts attention from something, someone, etc.
-
- ➢Enabler – protects others from the negative consequences of their actions
- ➢Hero – takes on greater responsibilities, high-achiever
- ➢Lost child – needs and wants overlooked
- ➢Mascot – distracts from the problems of the family (funny, jester, clown)
- ➢Scapegoat – distracts from the problems/issues by getting into trouble
With these laid out in front of you, you can decipher which ones are controlling you and which ones you have gone "anti" or sharp-corrected away from. Are any of these inherently good or bad, desirable or undesirable? It's all in the way they present themselves in your life and how you are using them. A balanced approach to all of them will benefit you at certain times. Only you will know if these behaviors are no longer serving you.
It will benefit you greatly to explore these within your childhood and current self. What you do with the information is where your power lives. Exercise that vigorously.
