Podcaster Q&A
Tell us about yourself – what is your background?
I'm Rich Bennett, a Marine Corps Veteran, Professional DJ, Entrepreneur and Professional Podcaster. I started the podcast “Harford County Living” in 2015, but 3 years later I had listeners from all over the world. My friend Kristy suggested I go international, so with the help of my sponsors and listeners, the podcast was rebranded to "Conversations with Rich Bennett". Since then I've interviewed guests from all over the globe!
Why did you get into podcasting?
Podcasting has been an amazing outlet for me to share stories, express creativity, and connect with people. I'm always inspired by how guests bring their own unique perspectives to the show, and I'm thankful for the freedom podcasting provides to create something meaningful. It's a great way to express myself without all the constraints of other forms of communication.
How did the idea for the show come about?
After wanting to find a new way to share good news and all the great things about Harford County, I decided to launch a YouTube show and radio program. After some initial challenges with a broken camera and failed attempt, I'm proud to say I successfully launched the podcast! I'm excited to continue sharing positive information and promoting the amazing people and places this county has to offer.
What do you hope listeners take from the show?
I aspire to create a show that is both inspiring and motivating for my listeners. Every week, I bring together special guests from a variety of backgrounds and experiences to share their stories and wisdom. Through these conversations, I hope that my listeners gain valuable insights into how they can use their own experiences and knowledge to achieve their goals and make a positive difference in the world.
What's been the biggest challenge for you?
Initially it was a challenge to secure guests for the show. However, the current challenge is having to politely decline requests from people who would like to appear on the show. It is important to ensure that any guests have something interesting to offer to the audience, otherwise the conversation could become quite uncomfortable.
How can your listeners support your show?
Listeners can support the podcast by subscribing, leaving positive reviews and ratings, and sharing it with their friends and family. They can also engage with us on social media at https://www.facebook.com/groups/636960420949799, comment on the episodes, and provide helpful feedback. I truly appreciate any support our listeners can give us!
Any future plans that you'd like to share?
I'm excited to share that I have a few big plans on the horizon. I'm planning on writing a book to help aspiring podcasters launch their own podcast as a business. I may also be looking to launch an online course to help podcasters develop their skills and knowledge. Additionally, I'm planning to start another podcast, where I'll be interviewing future and current podcasters.
Anything else you'd like to share?
If you're looking to monetize your podcast, the number of downloads you have isn't as important as you may think. In fact, I was able to secure a sponsor before I had even recorded a single episode. To maximize your chances of success, it's important to think of your podcast as a show and treat it as such. This will make it easier to pitch to businesses and secure sponsors.
