Dream Job Ready Episode 08: Dr Sameer Dixit (Scientist & Director of Research at Center for Molecular Dynamics Nepal)

Dr Sameer Dixit has spent more than 12 years transforming public health in Nepal and around the world, pioneering biomedical research to shape more effective responses to infectious diseases and viruses, and better combat complex global health challenges.

His organisation is recognised as an international leader in the study of viruses, such as TB, HIV, Influenza and Hepatitis. Right now he’s playing a key role globally and locally in Nepal, in the detection, research and reaction to COVID-19.

This interview took place on April 1st via Zoom. The world was in isolation and Sameer was in Kathmandu, busy jumping in and out of critical meetings with the World Health Organisation, the Nepali government and other scientists working to provide expertise on all matters related to the Coronavirus. We talk plenty about COVID-19 in the interview and Sameer shares some valuable insights about this virus and other diseases he’s an expert on, and he really opens up about what it’s like to work in the industry professionally. Sameer also shares great advice about the types of studies and career pathways future scientists should look at.

He works hard, is dedicated, and has the type of excited curiosity you need to be a leader in your chosen profession.
