S1E73: 7 Strategies to Maintain Discipline

In this episode I share 7 strategies that will help you maintain discipline. Self Discipline: is the ability to make yourself do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not." Motivation is important, but it is overrated. Discipline is what enables you to achieve success.

Being disciplined isn’t something you have -- it is something you do.
Discipline enables you to commit and execute your responsibilities before leisure.
Discipline enables you to control your reactive emotions.
Discipline enables you to watch what you say and keep a positive mindset.
Discipline builds a healthy body.
Discipline builds affluence and wealth.
Discipline builds a happy relationship.
Discipline builds an incredible career.

Discipline is the root of all good qualities and the driver of daily execution of the tactic that gets you toward your goal. Discipline enables you to overcome resistance, laziness, excuses, and the story's you tell yourself.

In this episode, I provide a three step process to help you plan your quarter. When it comes to high performance, productivity is an incredibly important topic. I am not just talking about being busy doing work, but more specifically, our life’s work. The things that make you feel good. “Busy work” is a form of laziness. A majority of people are doing busy work, or the the things they are comfortable with, and avoiding the things they know they should be doing.

I want you to focus on bringing more joy, intention, and happiness into your day, because you deserve to feel great. If you being pulled in a thousand different directions to things that you say yes to, it steals so much of your time. Time is our Life. Saying yes to everything saps your joy, and happiness. Reaction and randomness are the enemies of efficiency and freedom. High performers operate in 90 day blocks in their personal life as do their professional life. I provide some tips and strategies to stay focused on what matters.

Welcome to the Do Hard Things Podcast with your host Jay Tiegs, Are you ready to amplify and improve your life? Then you are in the right place. We talk about how doing hard things adequately enable all of us to deal with life's struggles and challenges and ultimately improve the quality of our lives.
In this episode, we talk about finding direction with Andrew Beattie from Azimuth X.
Andrew Beattie is an Air Force veteran (AFSOC), Air Traffic Controller, and founder of Azimuth X, a leadership and management training and coaching company. Over the years, he struggled with working for and listening to experiences of bad organizational leadership and management.
Andrew enrolled in countless courses and read countless books to learn more about the respective fields. Eventually, at 18, he had his first management position and started to gain experience. Combining what he learned, his experiences, and finding great mentors, he could piece together the reasons, so many people were having these bad experiences with leaders/managers. It boiled down to two main things: Lack of training and what courses were taught.
Andrew's mission is to move people in the right direction on their leadership and management journeys through proper instruction of time-tested methods, building structure, and continuing education. With his methods, he has built effective and efficient organizational cultures, teams, and individuals.

Weekly Wake Up Winner:
Cory Asimus is a US Marine Corps Veteran and current Appleton Firefighter/Paramedic who is training to break the World Record for completing a full marathon with a 100lb pack on his back! This great endeavor will be attempted on Sept. 17th here at the Fox Cities Marathon.

Firefighter Cory Asimus has finished the Community First Fox Cities Marathon at 4 hours 53 minutes BREAKING the world record for the fastest marathon run with a 100-pound rucksack! We are all so proud of Cory and his dedication and thank you to everyone who has supported his mission.

Being a Veteran himself and seeing the new Cancer battle that our Post-9/11 Veterans are now facing has hit close to home, Cory wants to use his story for good and to raise money and awareness. Our goal is to raise funding to pay for and complete Galleri cancer pre-screening blood draws for Military Veterans who are now Firefighters or Law Enforcement here in Outagamie County. We have already raised enough funding to cover all 47 plus Veterans who work for the Appleton Police and Fire Departments, and we are now spreading this objective to the rest of Outagamie County. Obviously, if we can detect cancer when it is still Stage 1 or 2, versus Stage 3 or 4, the survival rate jumps significantly. Partnering with Recon Sniper Foundation's Project Vaspire316, a local non-profit founded by APD Officer Dominic Hall’s wife, Jacole, ensures that all the funding raised will stay local and help local Veterans here in our community.

Do Hard Things - Courage Under Fire

Courage Under Fire

Do Hard Things

play

03/02/22 • 21 min

"Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway." -John Wayne

We are witnessing story after story of Courage and Bravery in the Ukraine.

Courage is the ability to confront something painful, difficult, or dangerous despite any fear. Courage is a choice. A person feels the fear, pain, or danger, but chooses to persevere anyway.

Last week, on 24FEB22, two Russian Battleships assaulted a Ukrainian held position on Snake Island, in the Black Sea off the coast of the mainland.

Russian Battleship:

"We are a Russian battleship. We suggest that you disarm and surrender, to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed. Snake island, we are a Russian battleship, I repeat. We suggest that you disarm and surrender. Otherwise, you will be bombed. Do you copy?"

Ukrainian Position: "Russian battleship, go F*ck yourself."

The Ukrainian position was ultimately destroyed.

May the 13 Ukrainian soldiers rest in peace.

Could you imagine being faced with that dilemma? Would you surrender or hold the line?

Courage is a pillar of high performance and we often fear many things in life. A situation like this makes me realize that some of the fear I face in life are really inflated by my subconscious.

Much of what we fear is b.s.

We fear judgement of others.

We fear failure.

We fear if we do that thing and look foolish our reputation will suffer.

We fear the hardship of doing something new.

We fear that if we rise up to the challenge and do the work, our life may not be better.

High Performers look at fear a little differently and take action anyway. The world's highest performers act courageously in facing their challenges and in chasing their dreams.

This is what I help people a do as a high performance coach. I help people discern their real fear from the inflated fear, and then together, we formulate courses of action to overcome the real fear and execute the goal.

Courage Questions:

How could your life improve if you faced your fears?

If you had to have more courage right now, what would you stop doing? Start doing?
