Dwana White is dangerously provocative, loves dinner parties, is a fan of the dialectic, and is a professional funny girl who believes in the mind-body connection. She’s here today to discuss systemic racism, white privilege, and how in the black community, mental health is not always discussed because of stigma.
Dwana grew up in Austin and San Antonio. She began modeling as a child, continuing to do so off and on even through law school. She’s a former attorney with a background in criminal prosecution and business litigation. She’s now writing and producing in Los Angeles and wants to see more people of color represented in Hollywood. She began her career in comedy as a performer on the illustrious Second City stage doing improv comedy and learning the art of storytelling and character development. Dwana is now writing and directing shows at the famed Upright Citizens Brigade and penning the occasional educational think piece.
Dwana is also a certified yoga instructor and a feminine sensual movement specialist. She’s worked with numerous women and written about the body-mind connection and the use of movement as a modality that can aid in the healing of emotional and physical traumas. We discuss the importance of wellness and mental health in the Black community, why people of color need to see more therapists who look like them, and the inequality in the health care system.

Family Together Apart
Sheltering at home for the better good of mankind is shifting our perspectives to focus on what is most precious in life- our health and our family.
Family support is more critical now than ever and yet we’re being asked to celebrate Easter, Passover, or Ramadan together but apart. These spring holidays remind us of rebirth and growth, like the symbolic egg on the seder plate or in an Easter basket. Just like the egg does when boiled and under pressure, it hardens and gets stronger. This is an opportunity for self-awareness and introspection, like spring itself, a gift to have faith there is beauty and light to come.
In an effort to help us cope and find hope, I’ve collected 50 silver linings from friends, family, news articles, essays, tweets, and large Facebook communities to share with you all. Listen to find inspiration and optimism, a gift like finding the hidden matzo (afikomen) or a jeweled Easter egg.

I'm a Failure and Proud of It- And Why #40 is so Meaningful!
Because this episode is about owning our failures, I'm celebrating my 40th Dear Family, podcast episode, something a year ago I thought impossible. We'll discuss why #40 is meaningful in history, science, religion, & pop culture & why you should fail and fail often.
Let's look at our failures the way the Japanese look at broken pottery. In Kintsugi pottery, broken pieces are bonded with precious gold. It’s the unique character flaws, the scars that add to the beauty & depth of the piece. Fall 39 times, get up 40.
