“Condom With a Conversation”- Sex & Consent Teen-Owned Business with Luca Wheeler, Charlotte Sedaka & Jed Siegel

Dear Family,

Under state law, teenagers aren’t legally old enough to have sex, but that didn’t stop three teens, Luca Wheeler, Charlotte Sedaka, and Jed Siegel from forming a condom company and consent initiative called Condom With a Conversation. This amazing trio sourced a 100% FDA-approved condom and designed a package that includes questions encouraging a couple to make sure both parties are on board and feel positive about their decisions.

At the height of the #MeToo movement, Luca came up with the idea for Condom with a Conversation after a meaningful talk with his grandma and mom. While the three founders are having provocative discussions about sex, they willingly share their own truth- all are virgins. Talking about sex isn’t exactly in the comfort zone of most teenagers, but Luca, Charlotte, and Jed are opening up about it and encouraging others to do the same.

To fund their start-up, these young entrepreneurs pitched their friends and family to sell stakes in their company. The condoms have eye-catching packaging with phrases like, YES?, LET’S TALK, and ARE YOU GOOD? making the message crystal clear. They’re selling the condoms online and donating 50,000 of them to college campuses across the United States.

All three teens are currently juniors in high school, looking ahead towards college. Jed is interested in baseball and business. Charlotte is a captain on her varsity cheer team, enjoys making films, is a member of the Student Emergency Response Team, and is a Teenline Volunteer. Luca is interested in sports, entrepreneurship, and theatre. I’m so thrilled to welcome our first Gen Z guests to Dear Family.

Wally Lamb- “I Know This Much Is True” Author & Executive Producer of HBO Series about Paranoid Schizophrenia, Forgiveness, & the Power of Storytelling to Heal

Wally Lamb is the author of not one, but six New York Times best-selling novels that speak to generations of readers who recognize their own struggles within his characters. He was twice selected for Oprah’s Book Club with She’s Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True, a current HBO limited series starring Mark Ruffalo as identical twin brothers, one with paranoid schizophrenia.

The human struggle and the power of story to heal inspire Wally, a former high school English teacher. The work he’s done teaching writing to women prisoners in Connecticut and editing two volumes of their essays most embodies the idea of the healing power of storytelling.

Wally was born to a working-class family in Norwich, Connecticut. He began writing in 1981, the year he became a father, and credits his ability to write in female voices with having grown up with older sisters in a neighborhood largely populated by girls. Wally and his wife Christine live in northeastern Connecticut and in New York City and are the parents of three sons and three grandchildren.

Wally’s characters are imperfect people seeking to become better people, stories that move beyond the boundaries and limitations of his own experience to better understand the lives of others. You can’t help but see yourself in his stories and be moved.

Pirie Jones Grossman- It’s Never too Late to Own Your Own Throne, Find Love from Within, & Heal a Community from Suicide

Pirie Jones Grossman was born and raised in South Texas. She grew up with a bipolar and schizophrenic mother who struggled with drugs and alcohol. When Pirie was just five years old, her mother put a gun to her head and was later institutionalized. Pirie developed a depth of self-loathing and a need to be loved that would follow her into multiple marriages.

Despite it all, Pirie went on to become a model, actress, and TV host for E!, Fox Television, NBC, CBS, and ABC interviewing visionaries like Maya Angelou. Pirie has firsthand experience about how aging can feel disempowering and intimidating, making her the perfect co-host for her podcast, Own Your Throne with her friend, Diane Chandler. Her goal is to empower women to reject media stereotypes, reinvent themselves, own their power, wisdom, and value, and to embrace their inner queen.

Pire has been the Co-Chair for the Special Olympics International World Winter Games in Idaho and she’s worked with the Dalai Lama. She’s the founder of the “Love is Louder” Brain Health Summit with suicide survivor, Kevin Hines, focusing on teenage depression and suicide. Her TedX talk is called, “How to Heal a Community from Suicide.”

With a Masters in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica, Pirie spreads her message through a blend of life coaching and event production. She’s shared the stage with leading influential figures in the personal development space such as Deepak Chopra and she is a contributing writer for Thrive Global. Pirie lives in Sun Valley, Idaho with her two teenagers who are on the road to being Olympic skiers. Pirie is here to remind us all that love comes from within.
