Sometimes you gotta jump even when you don't know all the answers.

You don't want to make a change and you're trying to fit all the puzzle pieces together right at the start. But until you're willing to put yourself in action, you won't know where everything fits.

When the children were little, they started off with a wooden puzzle that was very basic. It only fit one puzzle piece in one place. That makes sense when you are little.

But as you grow up and mature, your life becomes at least the size of the 1500 piece puzzle.

I can remember looking at those when I was a little girl with really big eyes; never thinking I would ever get to that level.

And then I got older! Years passed. I graduated to the 5,000 piece puzzle.

But you can't get to where you are going without beginning. You must begin with one piece of the puzzle at a time.

Sometimes you gotta jump!

Be willing to take 5 pieces of the puzzle and focus on where those fit. Once those fall into place, you can add the next few.

If you choose to sit back at the card table waiting for everything to fall into place, it will not. You'll just be sitting there sipping on your favorite drink wondering all about the what ifs.

You are the one I call when pushed to the edge. When I can't take one more step on my own strength, You I call to! I can't do things on my own, in my own strength. God is my strength.

How do you achieve optimal health so you can reach your goals and make your dreams come true?

Got milk?!? Happy National Milk Day. The first day milk arrived in bottles was January 11th in 1878. Now I feel young!

There was a study done by McMaster University (a study funded by Diary Farmers of Canada). What they discovered was active children need to be watered with milk.

"Children become dehydrated during exercise and it's important they get enough fluids, particularly before going into a second round of a game. Milk is better than either a sports drink or water because it is a source of high quality proteins, carbohydrates, calcium and electrolytes."

1% of dehydration can have up to a 15% decrease in performance, with an increased heart rate, core temperature and less ability to keep going.

The most vital factor to achieving optimal health is HYDRATION!!!

The adult body is comprised of 60% water. A newborn is 78% water.

  • The brain and heart are composed of 73% water
  • The lungs 83% water
  • The skin 64% water
  • Muscles and kidneys 79% water
  • Bones 31% water

What water does for you:

  • a vital nutrient acting as the essential building material
  • regulates body temperature
  • proteins and carbohydrates are metabolized and transported by water in the bloodstream
  • helps to flush wastes
  • acts as a shock absorber for the brain, spinal cord and fetus
  • gives you saliva
  • lubricates your joints

BONUS: Fat tissue does not have as much water as lean tissue.

How to achieve optimal health?

  1. Women needs to drink 2.2 liters of water
  2. Men needs to drink 3 liters of water

Ultimately, take A.I.M. with 1 gallon of water a day; not counting any other drinks like coffee, tea, etc.

Everyone wants the absolutes. But with fitness, it's about the series of variables. So how does cardio and fat loss work?

Cardio is one variable in your lifestyle equation. When the body gets consistency (low to moderate intensity), it begins to respond.

The fitness industry does a lot of guessing. Some educated based on research, science and studies. And others just guess at the expense of your health.

Your body was designed to adapt and recover. What can you do to move your body forward with consistency?

Further, be specific and clear with your goals.

  • How do you want to look?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • Do you want to be a certain number on the scale?
  • Do you want to be a certain size on the hanger?

You could lose muscle and become a smaller version of yourself. Is that what you really want?

Your lifestyle equation is comprised of a variety of variables.

  • Strength/Resistance Training
  • Cardiovascular Training
  • Yoga/Meditation/Stress Reduction
  • Diet/Nutrition
  • Mindset/Psychology of Living
  • Sleep

You are being sold the average. You're not the average. You're you. And YOU matter!!!

The K.I.S.S. ~Add CARDIO as a variable in your lifestyle equation!

Cardiovascular training is aerobic low to moderate intensity with consistency over time.

  1. Creating great heart and lung function. Having a strong heart and function is critical.
  2. Increase the production of mitochondria - the organelles inside the cells where the body burns off fat. This is your fat loss! Woohoo!!! It needs to be low to moderate intensity cardio.
  3. Train on opposite days of strength/resistance training. Therefore your body can focus on aerobic or anaerobic. The effects are much more powerful!

The R.A.R.E. Effect - Respond Adapt Recover Efficiently

The Tabata Protocol is high intensity, short duration. 20 seconds on HIGH, 10 seconds recovery (rest). Repeat for a total of 8 rounds, 4 minutes long. Be sure to warm up and cool down. No exceptions. You don't want to induce injury. Otherwise, walk if you don't have time to warm up and cool down.

How do you stop giving up or keeping your momentum and moving forward? Take the road less traveled.

Seems easy enough. You always give 150% and then by the third day, it all unravels and goes to the wayside.

It doesn't seem fair. But an easy trap and temptation to give in to.

We want something different, but we are afraid of what happened last time.

Yes! --- Your past plays a role in your transformation.

You are comfortable in your old self. You know what to expect. And there's not much to fear.

The only difference is --- you become more frustrated, more disappointed in yourself, and ultimately, you know you're a failure.

So why even go down the path you don't know. Stick to what you do know.

Yet that's the terrifying result you don't want. --- You don't want what you already have.

You are in a vicious cycle; the circle of ________. Name the circle. What are you going through now and trying to change, make different.

How do you break that chain? How do you break that vicious cycle?

Take the road less traveled.

Everyone wants to be right. But when you don't know the answer, then what?

There is so much information out in the world, there's no way we can know it all.

Often I'm challenged by my children. They ask some really tough questions. And even though I've homeschooled, I definitely do not have all the answers. In fact, my children are usually more spot on with facts verses experience.

  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Science

When you're not recalling the information frequently, you're gonna get a little rusty.

When I said the wrong answer, my son said, "You don't have to know it all. It's ok, Mom."

That doesn't make you less of a mom or a woman! We don't have to know all the answers.

Why is it that we feel like we do?

  • Disappointment
  • Rejection
  • Ashamed

The problem is, when you don't know the answer, you are putting not only yourself in a dangerous situation; but you are not teaching your children (or whomever you're speaking with), how to handle failure, lack of knowledge, and being wrong.

So what do you do when you don't know the answer?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Get the facts straight!

  1. Don't cover up. Don't act like you know the answer.
  2. Be honest and upfront about not knowing.
  3. Go gain the knowledge.
  4. Share your experience.
  5. Be YOU!!!

Once you have decided and committed, then you can continue to plan, prep and finally take A.I.M.

Don't fall into the excuses of someone or something else.

As much as you want something, going against the grain can seem impossible. The weariness of change, the evolution of normalcy may be too much to handle.

But going against the grain just might be what the doctor ordered. A prescription to get you focused in the right direction.

What controls your words, thoughts, and actions? It's your brain, your control panel.

Your brain is your computer.

Let's keep diving deeper. When looking at the mindset, you are combining your feelings with how your computer has been programmed.

Your feelings match what's programmed and you are in your comfort zone. WOOHOO! This is the right way. You've been affirmed.

However, when going against the grain, you're met with resistance, questions; you're unsure. There's no guarantee. You feel uneasy. There's very little confidence because you've never tried it this way. Now you are out of your comfort zone.

"Going against the brain is a way to rewire your brain."

You want change. You want a different mindset. You need to .....

You must have a shift in your mindsets.

  1. PERFECTIONISM - You want it perfect; absolutely NO flaws.
    • Take a leap, a giant step.
  2. COMPARISON - You always look at yourself to someone else's reflection.
    • Track the comparisons and change the reflection to you. (REdirect)
  3. PEOPLE PLEASING - You want others approval.
    • Please you first.

When life is going well, it's all smiles! But what happens when misery strikes?

Misery and pain; emotional strife. Anything that challenges what you see as normalcy is not a place anyone wants to be.

Not only is your stressed increased, but your tolerance for what life dishes out becomes threatened.

I look at my family, my children. When misery strikes, your immediate reaction might be to ready for battle.

In London, there was an horrific attack, where at this time, it's taken 3 innocent lives, injured 29 people and has devastated an area in our world.

I like to be optimistic and say that everyone and everything is good. But realistically, that's not the case. Life isn't fair.

Bad things happen to good people. It's unfortunate.

The question is, what do you do when misery strikes? The misery in ....

  • your marriage
  • your relationship with your children
  • your job
  • your health
  • your finances

The K.I.S.S. ~ Expand the J.O.Y. (Justify Only You)!

  1. Control YOU; your words, actions, and thoughts. Stop meddling in everyone else's messes. Don't major in the minors.
  2. Be Present. Be in the moment. See what's right before you. Be watchful. Leave the distractions behind.
  3. Look to the one who gives you joy --- God. Psalm 3:4 "I will go to God - the source of all my joy."

Life is full of surprises. You never know what will happen. Life is what you make it. Life is messy.

"Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!" ~ Psalm 31:24

Circumstances do not have to dictate the outcome of your life. However, when you focus on the circumstances, especially the bad ones, the fear begins to build. Instead of focusing on God and giving Him control, you relish in the fact that you're in control; when in actuality, you're falling apart.

Life is like a box of chocolates.

God does not want fear to control us. We can feel it, but letting God handle it is where the sweet spot it.

So where can you find your sweet spot?

  1. PRAY (give thanks + ask questions + where you need help + give praise)
  2. TRUST (God's got your back.)
