Create with Franz - Episode 77: How to raise self reliant children and teens

Episode 77: How to raise self reliant children and teens

01/26/22 • 34 min

In this episode I share ten science based tips on raising independent children. From the words we use to chores issues, how many toys are recommended, dealing with emotional issues and making decisions, there is a lot there to get you going and moving from 'He is so entitled/bored/laxy' to 'He is so helpful/hard working/motivated'. I so wish I had those tips before having kids myself, but as my parents raised me to be self reliant I simpy passed on those values in the hope they will one day be appreciated.

Research shows that giving responsibilities helps more than we think!

Episode 76: How life-long learning improves your well-being

“Change is the end result of all true learning.” (Leo Buscaglia)

Do you agree with Leo? I do. Education is power. Yet, so many spend their time unfulfilled and in chronic distress because their lack of education is stemming from - and also causing - a lesser quality of life, worse health outcomes and lack of opportunities.

I am not advocating a world-wide rush to gain a university degree but I invite all of us to consider learning new skills, and to develop a love for life learning, which will improve our mental health, our socio-economic situation and our self reliance.

In this episode I will be sharing some concepts from the NCBI site Study of 2019 'Education Improves Public Health and Promotes Health Equity' which concludes that,

“Education improves health because it increases effective agency, enhancing a sense of personal control that encourages and enables a healthy lifestyle. Education’s beneficial effects are pervasive, cumulative, and self-amplifying, growing across the life course.”

Tune in to learn more and be inspired by the achievements of many dyslexic people who have become scientists, artists and even Presidents by looking at their challenge as an opportunity to grow.
