This week, I'm going to be talking about how to create a brilliant guest signature talk. So what is different between a normal talk and a signature talk? A signature talk is a tool to attract new clients. It's something that you can do as a guest expert on a podcast, in a Facebook group, or on stage at a virtual event. It is your opportunity to share that you're an expert at what you do and it helps you elevate your expert status.
Episode Highlights:
- (01:14) It should incorporate your core brand message

Ep. 052 How To Be A Great Podcast Guest
Cracking Content Podcast
08/03/21 • 8 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
This week, I'm going to be talking about how to get onto podcasts as a guest and impress audiences. I've nearly been podcasting for a year now, but I've also been a guest on many podcasts since my entrepreneurial journey began four years ago when I launched this current business. We live in a hectic world where we often have to multitask and podcasts allow us to do this very thing. You can listen to podcasts while traveling, driving, or if downloaded anywhere. But with them becoming increasingly popular, how can you make sure you stand out enough to be a guest on one? How can you make yourself more memorable?
Episode Highlights:
- {1:45} Don't just do a blanket email out to hundreds of podcasts. Research them.
- {1:50} Find out who the host is, what they like talking about, how long their episodes are, what they have covered, and who they've interviewed.
- {2:38} Using external agents is absolutely fine, but make sure they're properly briefed and they are selling you in a way that you'd like to be sold.
- {4:02} Presenters get lots of people requesting to be a guest on their show. Make sure your subject line stands out. It is crucial because people are scanning their email either on their phone, on their laptop or wherever they work.
- {4:38} Make sure it's a concise pitch as well because people are time poor.
- {4:46} People want to know that you've got an audience to showcase the episode to. It doesn't have to be a massive audience. It just has to be the right audience.
- {6:09} Make sure that you're prepared. You've got a good mic. You've got headphones plugged in.
- {6:52} You also need a killer biography which sums up why you are great at what you do and who you help. This is your moment to showcase you as an expert at what you do.
- {7:13} It can be a really good way to grow an audience quickly. People really get to know you, you're talking about what you do best, sharing expertise and knowledge and stories about how you've helped people.

Ep. 77 Creating Conversations With Your Content
Cracking Content Podcast
05/31/22 • 8 min
In this week’s episode, I'm going to be talking about creating conversations with your content. Now, this sounds really simple, but I think sometimes this is where people go wrong with content marketing. They post, and then they leave and that's not something that's wise to do. What you want to do is create a conversation. When people start to converse with you, share your content, comment on it, and engage with you. They're beginning to know, like and trust you and understand the value of your goods or services.
Episode Highlights:
- (01:34) Share your story
- (03:07) Social media is a great way to amplify core content
- (03:38) Interview your clients
- (04:46) Think about a new angle
- (05:36) Ask your audience what kind of content they want
- (06:10) Weave your expertise into your brand message
- (06:44) Utilize hashtags
- (07:13) Relatable content allows us to connect

Ep. 12 Perfecting Your Pitch to the Media
Cracking Content Podcast
10/27/20 • 8 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about perfecting your pitch to the media. I love talking about this, and it's something that a lot of people feel a bit scared about when they first start doing it, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. So perhaps you're trying to market your business or share a charity event or something that's happening in your world, here are 10 tips to help you pitch to the media, take a risk.
{1.26} Pitching stories is really about taking risks because you don't know what the outcome will be. If you're worried about putting yourself out there, think, what is the worst thing that can happen? Literally, the worst thing that can happen is that you get ignored or someone says no, in which case, you can just move on and try something different and just think, well, that one didn't land, I'm going to try another one.
{2.56} You need to approach journalists effectively. I can't tell you how many press releases I've been sent, where they got the wrong publication and the wrong name. Now, this might sound a bit ego led, but people don't tend to read emails that aren't addressed to them.
{4.38} Provide extra content. Journalists are super busy and have many deadlines to meet. So they want someone who's prepared and ready. Providing extra content to your pitch will definitely give you an advantage.
{6.59} You can give an exclusive to one publication, and then a different angle to the others. That way, you can still release your full story to other places too. If you're going to offer exclusivity, make sure it's for that dream publication that your ideal client loves to read.
{7.26} Don't be rude. It's not personal. It will be down to their news agenda, their editor, what other news stories are breaking that week. Sometimes you even land a story and then a bigger news event will happen and all of the stories that have been scheduled to go that day will be knocked off by a breaking news event. So, it's never ever guaranteed that your story will make the press.

Ep. 013 How To Create Engaging Content
Cracking Content Podcast
11/03/20 • 5 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to talk about how to make your content more engaging and how to find your real voice. So often, when we're creating content, it might feel like you're shouting into the void and you're thinking, "Oh my gosh, I can't maintain my audience's attention." Or you're worried that you're not getting enough views. As humans we are naturally drawn to quality content. It's much better to concentrate on creating those core bits of quality content and using social media to amplify it than just churning out content every day without purpose.
{1.19} What you need to think about is the end result of the content you're creating and the key business messages that you're sharing with the world. Why is it important? What value are you bringing and how are you sharing?
{2.51} People have a short attention span when it comes to content. People are often scanning content that they read on the web. Make sure you don't write a ridiculously long paragraph, create a snappy, but intriguing title to draw your readers in and then make your content easy to read with short paragraphs, subheadings and lists.
{3.57} Creating, engaging content is just not about you. It's about connecting with your audience. Readers are drawn to relatable experiences. Tell a story. I've done an episode about this already. There is a unique truth and honesty to stories that gains instant trust. Let yourself be a little bit open and don't forget to use things like social media widgets at the bottom of your page or blog post, so readers can share your story and pass on the word.
{4.49} How often have you clicked on an article to find that it doesn't answer the question that it sets out in the title? Make sure that you deliver on the content that you create. Your content should be consistent with keywords throughout it, so it can be found through organic search.

Ep. 024 How Mentoring & Coaching Can Help Your Business
Cracking Content Podcast
01/19/21 • 11 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm interviewing Ruth Kudzi, who is a master level coach and coach trainer. Also, I've worked with her personally and I'm currently doing her coach training.
[0:47} I'm Ruth Kudzi. I'm a master level coach with the ICF, which is the highest level you can get. Business and mindset coach, coach trainer, podcaster and best-selling author.
{1:38} The coach training business, we actually set it up at the end of 2019. Our first cohort went through in 2020.
{2:13} We're recruiting our third cohort in February. We've got three groups within that cohort. I’m super excited to see the people that are signing up, their experience, their skillset, and really get to know them because I would say the quality of people that we have on the course is amazing.
{3:24} So mentoring, you're leading by what you know, and coaching, you're working with a person to work out what's in their head. So actually combining mentoring with a coaching approach means that you're able to help your clients overcome their mindset issues and make more progress.
{4:19} I prefer doing content like podcasts or video. I used to love and will do it again, but I used to have days where I would just go in with my video guy and we'd literally do like six or seven videos in a day. And then he would get those all edited and upload them onto YouTube. We also then share those on our Facebook page, get them transcribed and then they become emails and they become content posts.
{6.48} Don't be afraid to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. There's a thing that Tony Robbins says, “what if your worst day was actually your best day?”. So what if the worst thing happened and then you were able to learn so much and grow so much.
Ruth Kudzi is a MCC accredited and award-winning coach, coach trainer, business mentor, speaker and best-selling author. She is the CEO of two successful companies: A coaching and mentoring business helping entrepreneurs build and develop their businesses and a coach training school which helps people to train as certified coaches and develop their coaching skills.
She combines her background in sales and school leadership and education with over 25 years of study of Psychology and Neuroscience including MA in Psychology & Education, BA in Psychology & Management, PGCERT in Coaching (Psychology), PGCE in Business Education and numerous coaching qualifications including diplomas in Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, NLP, Performance Coaching and Business Coaching. She is a DISC L3 accredited trainer, a Spiral Energy Coach and is working towards her NLP Master Practitioner.
She is passionate about evidence-based approaches to coaching and personal development and helping people integrate their learning so they can live purposeful lives and run successful businesses.

Ep.032 Why You Should Be A Guest Blogger
Cracking Content Podcast
03/16/21 • 5 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this week's episode, I am talking about guest blogging. Guest blogging is the act of writing content for another company's or media outlet's website. It's a great way of expanding your audience by sharing valuable information that is at the core of your business and also building relationships with other bloggers and businesses. It also helps with boosting your organic search engine optimization.
{1:17} While you're essentially providing content for someone else, it helps boost traffic to your own website, and this is what's key here, through external links that can increase your domain authority. Your domain authority is where you rank in organic search.
{2:15} The higher the domain authority you link to, the more it's it will boost you in organic search, so you want to connect to high authority websites. This makes guest blogging a brilliant, mutually beneficial experience. The web host receives fresh, high-quality content, and the guest blogger increases brand awareness, gains credibility and ranks higher in search. What's not to love about generating a guest blogging strategy as part of your outreach?
{2:41} Choosing who to work with can take some research. Some businesses prefer to guest blog with partners or have a co-marketing strategy where you guest blog for each other. Others simply find through extensive online searches that they can start finding people that accept guest bloggers. The most important thing is to approach bloggers who share your niche and business values and are a respected member of the community.
{3:13} What should you look for before you agree to guest blogging? Ask these questions, does the blog or blogger have active followers that engage with their content through likes and comments? Do they post regularly on social media? Do they have a high domain authority that would increase your SEO ranking?
{4:30} There might be someone who's got an established business and website with a good domain authority that would love a guest blog from you because it means less work for them. Guest blogging is important because it's a wider part of getting yourself known. If one of your goals for this year is to grow your audience, this is a great way to do it, particularly if you know your ideal customer likes reading blogs.
{4:54} To conclude, guest blogging is a great way to get more visible and grow your audience. It will also boost your brand awareness and credibility, and connect with businesses that really matter to you and that share the same values as you.

About Laura Gurney:
I have literally never aspired to be a ‘marketer’ and yet, here I am, a ‘Digital Marketer’ working with organic and affiliate marketing on social media! I have worked for 30 years between academia and marketing, both paid and self-employed, specialising in the visual arts, working behind the scenes for Simon Gillespie of ‘Fake or Fortune’ & ‘Britain’s Lost Masterpieces’ fame; teaching anthropology of art at Leeds Uni, researching contemporary arts practice in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, working to support artists exhibit their work in the UK and now feel really happy as a ‘people person’, helping others to make connections. I love doing this work; especially when I can help a business I truly believe in to attract new clients; I have a few strategies that I think are unique on social media, that are ultimately rooted in old-fashioned networking. If it hadn’t been for Lockdown, I am not sure I would have taken the Zoom networking so far, and I probably would have missed this writing course. I am also keen to work with women; women trying to fit so much into their lives and creating businesses from their dreams; this is where I can now make a real difference.
I always wanted to be a writer when I was a child. I created endless characters and fictitious stories about astral travel and soul journeys. I was obsessed, I wrote poetry, won awards, had a vision of writing that gradually faded as I became tired from my day jobs and my writing moved into purely academia or publicity material. One of my life loves is Buddhism and more recently Taoism, Tai Chi and Qi Gong and whilst my teacher has been keen for me to get my class up and running, I have been reluctant to start until Claire’s writing course aligned me with the natural elements in such a mindful way, that It became startlingly obvious that I needed to ground myself and connect my energy with the heavens and get writing. I have become unstuck, following her structure and guidelines I am full again of the writing dreams that I had as a child. And more than that, I have established a new Qi Gong class which is devoted to healing, harnessing the power of the elements; we have been running for 2 months now and are growing steadily.
Its odd the way a writing course helped to pull me further into alignment, and therefore my life and hopefully others through my qi gong class, but it has. Putting my conscious awareness deeply into the elements and writing about them opened something new up; or rather, something that was hidden/ buried. I hope to continue writing and expanding in this way!

Ep. 020 How To Use Content Marketing To Change Lives
Cracking Content Podcast
12/22/20 • 16 min
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
This week I am delighted to be interviewing Julie Colan, the founder of the Secret Whispers brand and multi award winning Kegel kits. She has also recently launched the CupIT Menstrual Kit.
{1:00} The likelihood of developing an issue with your pelvic floor goes up by 50% with the onset of peri-menopause. I was turning 40 the following year, and I remember thinking there's absolutely no way this is happening to me because I've been doing my Kegels since I was 14 and I just assumed every woman did.
{1:56} I always imagined it's sitting on the shelf in John Lewis in the exercise department.
{2:49} I launched and I didn't expect it to go boom, it’s been incredible. It's because I'm happy to stand up and talk about this taboo issue.
{10:32} I think it was literally, not even 24 hours later, “what do you think of the hashtag 'Don't ignore the pelvic floor'?”
{11.44} Then you managed to get me into Refinery 29, I nearly fell off my chair. {13.22} I went to a local charity in Leicester where they deal with period poverty.
{15:13} They're very affordable and if you have any questions or unsure how anything works, just pop on the website, where there are lots of little videos.
To get 10% any of the Secret Whispers products – you can use this link https://www.secretwhispers.co.uk/discount/CRACKINGCONTENT
Connect with Julie:
Julie, a busy mum to two young very active gorgeous sons, wife to an amazing patient husband and a health and fitness enthusiast. Julie, founded Secret Whispers® after she found that were no adequate products available to help her improve her pelvic floor and a lack of information available.
She was horrified to learn that women are led to believe it is ‘normal’ to cross their legs when they laugh or sneeze. That urine incontinence after childbirth is almost expected and is challenging the message of multi-national companies, profiting from the sale of incontinence pads, that bladder weakness is normal.
Armed with a simple message that, in many cases female incontinence can be avoided, and with her multi award-winning 6 Step Kegel Kit, in just over 2 years she have helped thousands of women stop leaks and strengthen their pelvic floor.
Her mission is to dramatically reduce the current statistics of 50% of women who suffer with incontinence with providing education and support on the importance of Kegel exercises.
