Casually Coaching Strangers - Bad Relationships and Tedious Work Forms

Bad Relationships and Tedious Work Forms

play

06/01/20 • 35 min

Our caller with the great laugh has been procrastinating on some boring but critical work forms because things might not turn out so well. She has forgotten to consider that things might turn out really well, and there are things that she can do to increase the likelihood of this. Our caller is able to easily apply the new approach to her attitude about dating, as she notices what she is focused on, and what narrative she is creating.

Our minds look for evidence of what we believe to be true, and sometimes just taking a moment to really take stock of what we are assuming, what narrative we might have unconsciously chosen to follow and to consider other possibilities will make all the difference.

Watch how this shift in mindset impacts our caller's attitude on her job quest and man hunt! Okay, she isn't really on a man "hunt".

Which is creepier, leeches or ticks? If leeches creep you out, why not move to Greece where you can swim in the leech free ocean? Problem solved.
And what if you also really want amazing abs for the beach in Greece and every week you promise yourself that you will eat perfectly, but then chips and ice cream happen? Our caller is stuck in the "trying to try" cycle and can't find the right motivation.
Lucky for us, he is much more interesting than someone who only cares about his abs, and ironically, this is what will help him get those abs. Enjoy!

Casually Coaching Strangers - Kick-Ass Woman Forgets to Notice she Kicks Ass
play

Have you ever gotten so caught up in hating your job that you forgot to focus on what's next? If your day to day is draining it can be a real struggle to break free, and sometimes you can't even see great options that are right in front of you. Focusing on what you do want is going to make it so much easier.
Our caller realizes that it is time to start looking beyond this gaggle of straight white men, because she is already in the process of making big changes. We identify a thought pattern that has been holding her back from feeling truly satisfied for a very long time. Also, why not start house shopping for a new place now?

Casually Coaching Strangers - Self Described "Pretty Little Daddy's Girl"

Would you take the easy route if it was boring? Our caller is suffocating under the weight of other people's expectations and judgements, but she wants to break free. The thing is, the quest for autonomy is much more difficult when you aren't sure what you would do with the autonomy if it was suddenly granted to you.
We discuss how she can reframe her thoughts when she is feeling self-conscious and insecure, and I try to convince her to push a little more out of her comfort zone and try recording a YouTube video because she needs to practice getting out of her head!

Dating after divorce, the impact of overcoming unanticipated health emergencies, road rage, self-image, this episode has it all. He didn't know it was going to be on a podcast and he didn't expect to be coached so we meandered a little. My goal was to find something that I could get him to think about differently in a way that can help him down the line.

If you don't actually want your goals all that much what's the point? Our caller begins the call with the "right" answers, and apparently her super-power is telling people what they want to hear, but it's obvious in her voice that she isn't really connecting with her goals. She is intelligent and driven and we want to help her figure out what she actually wants.
Listen to our call as we uncover what might matter more to our caller than travelling, tea, or learning French. If your goals seem like a good idea but aren't rooted in desire you aren't going to want to do the work to achieve them.

Casually Coaching Strangers - Procrastinator Wants More than Procrastinating
play

05/20/20 • 44 min

Unfortunately, you can't schedule motivation. Exams are coming up and our caller, who has ADHD as many awesome people do, is stressed out and beating himself up. He keeps making plans to study but isn't following through on anything other than binge-watching Breaking Bad. We take a step back and look at his past patterns and results and compare them to what he wants for himself in the immediate future, as well as in the long term. We come up with a completely different approach to studying for him to try out based on who he wants to be in five years.
Our caller then drops a bomb about something else contributing to his struggles, and after some tough truth talk, we tie that into the big picture.

Casually Coaching Strangers - The Catastrophizing Plucky Rom-Com Heroine
play

05/13/20 • 48 min

How do you cultivate the right mindset for dating? Our caller is enjoying the reduced pressure that comes from being under lockdown but wants to learn how to approach the future with less anxiety. We talk about dating and we uncover a deep-rooted habit of catastrophizing, with our caller worried about problems that could creep up in a hypothetical relationship, years down the line!
After examining the stories that she is telling herself we experiment with changing the narrative and find her inner rom-com heroine potential. The new stories that emerge from this mindset make it so much easier to feel the possibility instead of fear.

How do you change your life but totally stay in control of everything? Doesn't work. Our caller is feeling a bit stuck but he is not willing to make any decisions because he can justify putting it off. It's amazing how easy it can be to justify stalling to ourselves.
Will our caller make a decision and move out of his parent's place or will he stay put until his parents sell it?
