Triggers of Trauma
02/10/21 • 34 min
On February 14, 2018, Valentine's Day, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida was the scene of the deadliest school shooting in US history.
The day began like any normal day for student Maddie King who remembers exchanging Valentines with friends with plans of a Valentine's Day dinner with her boyfriend after school that evening. But what was an exciting day turned into a day of terror after a gunman, a former MSD HS student began shooting indiscriminately at students and teachers, killing 17 people.
That was three years ago and although Maddie gets the mental health care she needs, she still gets triggers from what some consider joyous Valentine's decorations.
In this episode, Maddie walks us through Valentine's Day three years ago and how she is coping with the triggers from the shooting years later.
