Gooooooood morning!
Mike returns to the 8AM Shift to discuss the recent cancellation of Daredevil on Netflix, which is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series to get the axe. Mike and Jordan have both watched season 3 and can attest to the quality, which begs the question, why did they cancel a series that was getting better? The 8AM Shift gathers around a table in a cold room to examine this recent turn of events.

Do you secretly wish for Westworld to become a real thing or at the very least an immersive VR experience that you would never have to leave? If the answer is yes to at least 1 of these questions, then you will probably like this episode. We're diving into the world of outlaws given the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and we are asking: what is it about outlaw mythology that seems to capture peoples attention?

Gooooood morning!
First off we want to apologize to all of the Shifters for our wonky schedule. To make up for being away for the last two weeks, we're dropping two episodes back-to-back. Yes, in addition to this episode, we have another one you can digest as soon as you're done with this one. So if you have a long commute or are stuck in traffic, now is a good time to sit back and chill as we give you our hot takes on two of the hottest movies of the summer.
In this episode we discuss...
- What we've been watching or are attempting to watch
- Here's a shortlist of shows/movies which we share our thoughts on: Succession, Ozark, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Claws, Better Call Saul
- Crazy Rich Asians: The good, the bad and the "problematic" (vomitting in our mouths) elements
- What we hope to see now that the movie has become a box office success
Once your done with this episode, stick around for our episode on BlackKklansman!

Gooood morning!
**Update: Joe and Jordan will be rolling episodes out mid-week moving forward! This means Wednesdays or Thursdays**
What starts as a lengthy discussion about the recent Venom trailer slowly evolves into a set of hot takes about the Boots Riley film, Sorry To Bother You. While initially billed as a film about code switching, it's really a dark satirical look at what capitalism can do to those that are desperate for social mobility. For this episode we got to hear from a few of our ultra-cool friends.
- Chris Lee (of Gold Vibes Only -- follow them @gvo.fm)
- Karen Sepulveda (who you may remember from Episode 24 -- follow her @thekarensep)
- Atum Ra (who produced our intro music)
After we launch into a brief discussion of MoviePass, which we both agree is a great idea that may not be able to last. Which begs the question, if MoviePass folds, who will take their place?

Goooood morning!
On this amazing episode we discuss our Fourth of July celebration, things we read or listened to, antiquated cultural ideas in media and, towards the end, the 1985 Martin Scorsese movie After Hours.
Here's a rundown of what to expect.
- Jordan has an a-"woke"ning (vomits in his mouth) after watching Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
- Joe watched I Love Lucy and experienced something similar.
- A comparative breakdown between The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Sons of Anarchy by Jordan.
Later, on we sit down and chat with Michael Carroll, a board game enthusiast, who had a lot to say about After Hours. Is the movie an accurate depiction of transplant life in New York City? Michael Carroll seems to think so. He also shares his hot takes on Scorsese's work and the significance this film has in the director's overall legacy.

Special thanks to Atum Ra for the new intro music!

Episode 20: 20-For-20
8AM Shift
06/16/18 • 68 min
Gooood morning!
For the 20th episode, we take a trip down memory and discuss everything from what we've been watching to why 1998 was such a pivotal cultural year.
Here's a shortlist of some hot takes...
- Jordan finally watched Thor: Ragnarok
- Led Zeppelin never had a bad album
- For some reason Jordan started watching Blue Bloods
- Joe's distaste for what would become known as the nu-metal
- A brief eulogy for Anthony Bourdain (RIP)
Yes the theme of the 20th episode is what happened 20 years ago. The numerology connects like Corsican Brother. After the break, we sit down with Jose Torres, a producer/filmmaker, who worked on a documentary for Tidal about Big Pun's classic debut album Capital Punishment. The album, which was released in, you guessed it, 1998, stood out as a huge moment for Bronx, NY hip-hop, with its influence still being felt in other variations today.
So if you're feeling nostalgic and/or in the mood for a great interview, fire up those Bluetooth speakers or headphones and listen to this episode.
Shout-outs to the following...
- The Point
- Bronx River Art Center
- The Bronx Is Reading
- Brook England

Episode 19: Infinity Beef
8AM Shift
06/09/18 • 72 min
Goooood morning,
What do you know, we're back to a Saturday release. Since we're recapping the last few weeks there are some things we may have missed. At the time of the recording, we had only seen game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, and at time of this episode release, the Warriors have won the championship.
We also dive a little bit into the recent Pusha T and Drake beef which had the internet talking for several days straight and, after the break, we discuss yet another hotly debated summertime beef: Thanos and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Special thanks to Mike, for passing by again, and Luis for their contribution to the Infinity War discussion.
Also, we didn't get a chance to mention it on this episode, but we share our condolences to the families of Kate Spade, Anthony Bourdain and anyone else who has lost a family member or loved one due to depression and mental health issues. If you or someone you know has expressed self harm we recommend the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255.

Gooood Morning!
We review the media cycle from the previous 2 weeks, pre-Memorial Day weekend, and discuss the second season of the hit FX series Atlanta, the Black content creator era which we currently live in, Jordan’s recent trip to New Orleans, and his subsequent binge-watch of HBO’s The Pacific.
After the break we speak with comedian Tim Barnes who embellished us to watch the feminist version of the “This Is America” music video. He also touches upon the Black content creator movement and the somewhat unfair criticism that some folks have had of Childish Gambino’s “wokeness” (insert vomit emoji).

Episode 41: The Punisher
8AM Shift
02/18/19 • 33 min
Goooooood morning!
We're back and we're talking about yet another fantastic Netflix MCU series that will likely get the axe: The Punisher. We've made mention of our infatuation with the Marvel character in previous but with season 2 having been released last month, we figure now was the time to dedicate an episode about Marvel's most well-known t-shirt logo.
Sidenote: We recorded this around the time of the polar vortex so apologies if our references are a little dated.
- Shout-out to Jamila Rowser who signed a copy of her book Wobbledy 3000!, dedicated to the 8AM Shift!...[3:40]
- Joe's take on the recent Boston Globe podcast series Gladiator, which explores the life of Aaron Hernandez...[5:18]
- The time Joe saw a Punisher t-shirt...and quickly changed his mind...[10:20]
- What did we find on Wikipedia about The Punisher?...[11:50]
- The Batman logo...[14:50]
- Why isn't The Punisher going to be on the big screen as part of the MCU? (Hint: It's why Ghost Rider isn't there)...[18:40]
- The thin line meanings...[23:35]
- Words of wisdom from The Punisher...[30:37]
