8AM Shift

Goooood morning!

On this amazing episode we discuss our Fourth of July celebration, things we read or listened to, antiquated cultural ideas in media and, towards the end, the 1985 Martin Scorsese movie After Hours.

Here's a rundown of what to expect.

  • Jordan has an a-"woke"ning (vomits in his mouth) after watching Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
  • Joe watched I Love Lucy and experienced something similar.
  • A comparative breakdown between The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Sons of Anarchy by Jordan.

Later, on we sit down and chat with Michael Carroll, a board game enthusiast, who had a lot to say about After Hours. Is the movie an accurate depiction of transplant life in New York City? Michael Carroll seems to think so. He also shares his hot takes on Scorsese's work and the significance this film has in the director's overall legacy.

Special thanks to Atum Ra for the new intro music!

Episode 21: Dinosaurs and Spike Lee

Gooooood morning!

Shifter, we apologize for missing the last week. We are back and in this episode we cover a lot of ground, discussing stuff that took place last week.

Here are the lows...

Here are the highs...

  • Joe went to watch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom; tries to convince Jordan to follow suit.
  • Jordan believes that the spirit sequel to Jurassic Park is Westworld.
  • Joe watched Won't You Be My Neighbor, the current Mr. Roger's documentary, which "reveals" to the world that Mr. Rogers was a Republican.
  • Jordan highly recommends the Pixar film, The Good Dinosaur.
  • Both Jordan and Joe agree that the next Jurassic World should be like DinoRiders (something that was eerily referenced in a Birth.Movies.Death article circa December 2017).

After the break, we sit down with indie filmmaker and current NYU grad student, Alexander Etseyatse, who is working on his web series Otis. During our conversation he discusses his inspiration, his receipt of the 2018 Spike Lee Recipient Fun, and of course what it's like to have Spike look at your work. It's a great interview with a great up-and-coming content creator.

Gooood morning!

In this episode we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Dark Knight, a major touchstone film among older millennials and Gen X'ers everywhere. We discuss everything from the technical achievements of the film to the philosophical ones. It's a deep conversation that lends itself to discussions about today's political climate.

Special thanks to...

...for sharing their thoughts on The Dark Knight.

Super special shout-out to Atum for the music!
