Living Your Legacy

Have you ever felt called to create something bigger than yourself? Something that truly rocked your world, and changed the trajectory of your life? Did it hit you at the worst moment? Me too! I was walking the picket line with my husband pushing my special needs son in his wheelchair. We had just gone from dual income, 2 kids to NO income, 2 kids. We didn’t know how we were going to pay the bills, the mortgage or put food on the table. The future looked really bleak. As we were walking, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I realized that in addition to all this we were never going to be able to meet my older son’s lifelong needs! I knew then that I needed to make big changes and quick! To be able to create a legacy for our family, I was going to have to change everything I was doing, and everything I believed my life would be. It was terrifying! I’ve always been a take charge person. But what people didn’t see was the fear and doubt I found myself riddled with. They had no idea how worried I was that I’d never achieve the dream that was beginning to form; that I’d fail my son. Then I realized that like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, I didn’t have to have all the answers. I needed to create a community who could support me on my journey; people who were building amazing legacies, so their stories could inspire me to keep moving forward. I realized I could actually live into my own Legacy. We’re here to tell you that YOU can too! We are on a mission to help people like you and me live into a legacy they love. Join in as we share inspiring stories of ordinary people creating incredible legacies and learn from those who support us along the way. I am your host Michelle Slaney-Trovato and this is the Living Your Legacy Podcast.

A podcast about (b)oldly moving from midlife to old age in a society that devalues old people and/or misunderstands what (b)old age is *really* like. Debbie, who is 72, explores that question in frank 30-minute conversations with best-selling authors, experts, and exceptional individuals. With her guests she delves into the unretired (non-retired) life, ageism, ambition, slowing down (or not), physical deterioration, grandparenting, intergenerational collaboration, grief and widowhood, and more. As well as other stuff that piques her interest such as the craft of writing. She invites her husband, Sam Harrington, on as a frequent guest. He’s a retired physician with a dry sense of humor and he makes her laugh. Debbie and Sam took a grownup gap year at age 61, leaving behind a professional life in Washington D.C. Now in their early 70s, they live a busy and productive "unretired" life on an island off the coast of Maine. Debbie writes for Substack at debbieweil.substack.com. As The MacArthur Center for Expository Preaching at The Master’s Seminary opens its doors, season one of its flagship podcast will tell the surprising, providential, compelling story of how John MacArthur became synonymous with expository preaching. From his first sermon at Grace Community Church on February 9, 1969, through his 52 years of relentless, verse-by-verse exposition from the New Testament, John has modeled a simple idea: that the Bible is clear and the preacher’s task is to patiently explain that meaning to his audience. This documentary-style season will look at Grace Community Church, which during John’s 52-year ministry has grown from a small, nondescript church in the middle of the San Fernando Valley into one of the largest, most influential churches in the United States. These eight episodes will tell the story of John’s calling into pastoral ministry and explain why, and how, he preaches the way he does. It will also trace his involvement in controversies and look at how he preaches during cultural upheaval and personal suffering. Don’t miss season one of The MacArthur Center podcast.
