Avoid Burnout and Increase Motivation by Developing Your Mindfulness Meditation Practice
The Aware Mind
In this episode, Sarah explains how to develop your mindfulness skills during your sitting practice, specifically how to take a step back from your own thinking. Moving from being absorbed and engaged in your thinking to being a third-person observer of your thinking is one of the most important skills a mindfulness meditator can develop. If you follow this seven-step process for noticing thinking, investigating the content of your thinking, and naming the thinking is the ideal way to quiet your mind and avoid burnout. Mental energy is finite and we can overextend ourselves quickly. Using techniques to conserve your mental energy will create more motivation, energy and enthusiasm in your life. Find a PDF version of this exercises on our blog.

Mindfulness Vs Mindset: What We Need to Know About Both to Execute Ideas and Avoid Burnout
The Aware Mind
In this episode, Sarah explains that any idea begins in the mind and then is executed. If this is true, then mindfulness of the workings of your mind and your preset mindsets are key to effectively executing any idea. Sarah and Jacob discuss mindful leadership and how this practice can be used by anyone from a business owner, executive, stay-at-home parent, or employee. Research shows mindful leadership training and coaching supports three major categories: (a) decrease in stress and overcoming burnout, (2) better organization and focus, and (3) improved relationships and how you are perceived by others. Listen and find out how study participants are gaining these benefits with mindful leadership skills.

Why Self-Validation is the New Self-Compassion
The Aware Mind
In this episode, Sarah shares how a little self-validation can go a long way when it comes to reducing stress. What if the next time you found yourself in a stressful situation, you paused to validate your stress response? "It's understandable that I am feeling stressed, there is a chance I am going to be late for my meeting." Jacob shares an emotional rating system he and his wife use to communicate their stress level. When they use this system it is easy for them to validate their own anxiety and each others'. Validating yourself for the uncomfortable emotions you are experiencing is a wonderful way to give yourself compassion and reduce your stress at the same time.

In this episode, Sarah and Jacob explore the question, "Is enlightenment an isolated experience or a permanent state?" Sarah details her brief enlightenment experiences and argues that a mindfulness practice supports mental health more than "enlightenment" experiences. Jacob details his personal quest to become more enlightened and how his insights from his practice thus far have helped him become a better human being.
