Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

A leader of children and family support services from across NHS, local government, the civil service and now the charitable sector in England and Wales. A manager of people, places and resources. Children’s charity trustee, blogger and podcaster

Why did you get into podcasting?

The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast was born out of my desire to take my research from academia to the office. I finished my doctorate about self-awareness, leader effectiveness and leadership at all levels in 2021 and I wanted to take my learning from the text books out into the workplace to make it live, relevant and useful to people in the world of work. Through discussions with thinkers from around the globe the importance of self aware leadership is being elevated across all sectors

How did the idea for the show come about?

Throughout my career, I've been interested in working relationship: the dynamics between people and the impact both good and bad relationships have on individuals and their ability to effectively deliver their work. This led me to develop an interest in self-awareness, leader effectiveness and leadership at all levels which became the focus of my doctoral research.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

I want listeners to..... 1 Think about their own self-awareness 2. Embark on their journey of greater self awareness 3. Start workplace discussions about self awareness to make workplaces more psychologically safe, where respectful challenge is welcomed, and where peoples voices are heard at all levels.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

The greatest challenge has definitely been understanding the technical side of podcasting - recording, editing and hosting. I didn't know anything about this before I started! The learning modules on Buzzsprout were excellent and that's where I started

How can your listeners support your show?

1. Giving the podcast rates and reviews on their favourite podcast player 2. Sharing the podcast with work colleagues, friends and family 3. Sharing the podcast on social media 4. Donating

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

There are two things I'm thinking about for the future: the frequency of release dates, the format of the interviews for series 4. I'm considering going weekly from fortnightly and I'm thinking about changing the question structure

Anything else you'd like to share?

Listeners can connect with me on: LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit and Tumblr.
