EP16: Fear is a Habit:Transitioning from Fear to Freedom
01/18/24 • 26 min
Recently, Nick and I had a chat on our podcast that opened my eyes in a way I didn’t expect. We stumbled upon a simple yet profound idea: fear is often less of an emotion and more of a habit. This conversation sparked a train of thought that I feel is worth sharing with you all.
Life, as we often forget, isn’t a script we’re meant to follow blindly. It's not about living out a legacy or a set of pre-written expectations handed down from generations past. I used to walk along a path that seemed laid out for me, thinking it was all there was. But as Nick and I talked, I started to question – was I actually living my own life, or just playing a part in a story written before I was even born?
It hit me that many of us are unknowingly fighting to keep ourselves within these invisible walls we've built. We cling to what’s familiar and safe, often mistaking it for what’s right or necessary. But isn’t it strange how we guard these limits as if they are treasures, not realizing they might be cages?
Picture your life without these self-imposed limits. Imagine waking up each day to a world full of new possibilities, not clouded by old fears. That's the life that’s calling out to us – a life where we acknowledge our fears but choose not to be ruled by them.
During our podcast, Nick and I pondered over what life looks like when we let fear guide our steps. It’s like sticking to the shallow end of the pool, never daring to see how the deep end might feel. Sure, it’s safer there, but all the excitement and discovery are waiting out there in the deeper waters.
So, here’s what this post is really about: it’s an invitation to dive into those deeper waters. It’s time to question the old narratives that have been silently steering your life. Are they really your own, or are they just echoes of someone else's experiences?
Embracing a life beyond fear doesn’t mean fear disappears; it means learning to move forward with it as a silent companion rather than a leader. It’s about realizing you’re the one holding the pen that writes your life story, and you have the power to start a new chapter.
As we wrap up this post, remember: your life is a unique story waiting to be told, a blend of dreams, challenges, and successes that are entirely yours. Embrace it, push against the old boundaries, step out of the comfort zone, and into your own potential. In the journey of life, the most exciting stories are the ones you write yourself.

EP15: Beyond the Ceremony: Self-Reflections After a Year of Plant Medicine Journeys
A year has passed since we first embarked on our journey with plant medicine. This period of time has allowed us to reflect and integrate the intense experiences we encountered during our ceremonies. Initially, in our podcast, we shared our thoughts and feelings right after these experiences, but looking back, it seems we were still riding the wave of the experience itself.
Now, with some distance, we've come to a clearer understanding. There's a question that has emerged in the quiet aftermath: if we find ourselves relying on plant medicine or any external belief system, to make decisions or find our power, doesn't that suggest a lack of self-trust or a disconnect from our own inner strength?
I’ve come to believe that the true goal of this journey is to become more connected with ourselves, to trust in our inner voice and wisdom. It's not about judging the rightness or wrongness of using external aids like plant medicine. Rather, it's about asking ourselves whether this reliance is truly reflective of who we are and what we want our life experiences to be.
Reflecting on this now, I see our initial podcast discussions as a necessary part of our process, a way of externalizing our immediate reactions. But the insights we've gained since then speak to a deeper, more personal transformation.
This journey with plant medicine has taught us the importance of looking inward. While the ceremonies opened our eyes to new perspectives, they also highlighted the significance of finding answers within ourselves. It's a realization that the most important guidance often comes from our own inner being.
So, as we move forward, we do so with a renewed sense of self-awareness and introspection. Our experiences with plant medicine have been pivotal, but they have also shown us that the most meaningful journey is the one that leads to a deeper understanding of ourselves.

EP17: Raising Ourselves, Guiding Our Kids: Rethinking ideals around respect and responsibility
Hey there, friends!
Pull up a chair and grab your favorite cup of something warm. Today, we're diving into something that's been tugging at my heartstrings – the beautifully complex world of parenting, and how our own upbringing shapes the way we raise our little ones.
Remember those days when, as kids, we'd look up to our parents for every little thing? From choosing the right crayon to making big life decisions, they were our go-to guide. Fast forward to today, and here we are, still carrying that little voice in our heads that often whispers, "Would Mom or Dad approve?"
But then, amidst the whirlwind of daily life, a thought gently knocks on our door: What if we could carve our own path? What if we could nurture our children to be so sure of themselves, so grounded in their own being, that they can weather any storm with confidence and grace?
It's a beautiful sunny morning as I write this, and I can't help but smile thinking about the little lessons life offers us. Like that time when my kiddo decided to wear mismatched socks to school, boldly declaring it 'Sock Mix-up Day!' In that simple, innocent moment, I saw the pure courage to be different, to make a choice that wasn't bound by 'what's usually done.'
This journey of parenting – it's not just about guiding our little ones. It's equally about rediscovering ourselves, about peeling off layers of 'shoulds' and 'musts' that we've collected over the years. It's about sitting down with our past, having a heartfelt chat with it, and then, gently letting go of the strings that don't resonate with our present.
But oh, the bittersweet symphony of letting our kids (and ourselves) stumble, fall, and then rise! It's not easy to watch, I know. Every fiber of our being wants to rush in, to fix things, to make it all better. But sometimes, it's in those unguarded moments of struggle that the most beautiful growth happens.
It's about respect, too – a two-way street where we honor our elders, cherishing the wisdom they've passed down, while also honoring our own inner voice. It's about finding that delicate balance, where tradition meets individuality, where guidance doesn't overshadow personal growth.
So, here we are, you and I, on this journey together. It's messy, it's challenging, but oh, isn't it wonderfully human? Whether you're sipping your third cup of coffee or finally sitting down after a day that felt like a week, know that you're not alone in this dance of parenting and personal discovery.
I'd love to hear your stories, too. What's your dance like? How are you blending the old tunes with your own rhythm? Share your thoughts, your struggles, your victories. Because every shared story is a beacon of light on this shared path of ours.
Here's to us – the brave, the imperfect, the ever-growing. Let's keep this conversation, this warmth, this shared journey, alive.
